Kind of a dive bar that myself and several clients, a few from Japan, came across while in Pasadena, California for business and a trade show. It is definitely more if a dive bar, but I mean that in a complimentary way. It was a good place for us to kick back and be ourselves and have some fun. All in all, a good time and a welcome break from another business trip.

"So won't ya bob your head.. "ruff, ruff an' rugged we comin. Be-be-ba bob your head ruff, ruff an' rugged we comin." -Run DMC "Bob Your Head" An exceptionally fun and cost effective spot for all night boozing and boogies. There usually is not any cover or much of one to get in. The locals effect a light hearted and low key attitude. Not too many cliques or pretentious people to be found at 2J's. People usually carry on, play pool, drink, dance or play the occasional round of darts. 2J's boasts relatively impressive to exceedingly good DJ talent on any given night. When I happened by, the man on the wheels of steel was the very cool and fresh Bobby May. Bobby is among my favorite Bobs because he manages to get every head bobbing on the dancefloor. A meeting with this Bob is a promotion of all that is funky indeed. Bobby possesses a solid music background, and he has had extensive access to vinyl over the years due to the hours he has put in at Burger Records. Bobby might drop Dazz Band, Marvin Gaye, Britney Spears, The Supremes, or Rick James at any given moment. Bobby's sense of fun extends to how he DJs his sets too. He does his darnedest to dance and sing along with the crowd. Anyone who drops in on 2J's would be lucky to witness a set from Bobby May of the leonine hairdo, of the record world, of the sensational tunes. Other than Bobby, the decor stands out too. 2J's interior is a goofy mixup of sports bar and divebar. There are the usual gaudy beer logos. These are offset by wacky objects like a giant moosehead mounted on the wall and/or the random funny enough sign. I recommend setting foot inside 2J's to anybody wanting some good clean amusement.

Chill spot and friendly staff. Bobby May as Dj is the best. Zero complaints. Great spot to play pool.

I wanna go back already! Every time I'm here, I get bent and it's always worth it!! Lmao the atmosphere and vibe inside is hella smooth and I'm convinced that it's Fullerton's best kept secret. Last time I was here I was two steppin, with two whiskey cokes in my hand and with two girls high as a kite, on god - I had the time of my life. Leave it to me - I'm on my way back. I'm already preppin for the two day hangover. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessiirr

We attended a special Chartreuse tasting event at Strong Water which was being held in honor of…read moreChartreuse week and Chartreuse Day 1605 (May 16), the annual celebration of Chartreuse's origins and history. The tasting featured a great lineup of green and yellow Chartreuse paired with small bites. It concluded with a complementary Chartreuse-based cocktail from one of five recipes. Brand ambassador Taylor guided the event and began by telling us about the unique history of Chartreuse. The tasting started out with a small spoonful of Vegetal Elixir Chartreuse to warm up the palate. This is the base spirit of both green and yellow Chartreuse and clocks in at 138 proof. It was surprisingly not harsh, but immediately kicked my salivary glands into overdrive. I didn't even know that vintages of Chartreuse was a thing, but Taylor walked us through tasting three different vintages of both yellow and green Chartreuse, and it was surprising how different they were. The lineup concluded with more rare varietals of the green elixir 1605 and yellow cuvee. Great job, thanks Taylor! Chef Kling presented each small bite which included a crispy Icelandic cod, a roasted beet crostino, and a lamb slider. All of them had a five star list of ingredients and were delicious. Strong Water is known for their excellent cocktails, but their food is also great. For my cocktail at the end of the event, I had the Bar Flower (Green Chartreuse, Crème de Cacao, Pineapple, Lime). This was so good, with the herbal and chocolate flavors perfectly balanced. It was served with a flaming lime half. This was such a great event! Chartreuse retails for around $100 a bottle, and the higher-end varieties cost even more. At just $45 per person, this event was an amazing bargain. Strong Water frequently hosts great events, so keep an eye on their social media for upcoming dates. I really love Chartreuse, so I went back a few days later on the last day of Chartreuse week to try a few of the other limited time cocktails. I started out with their twist on a Grasshopper (Chartreuse, Crème de Menthe, Chili Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, Cream, Cane, $22). This was a great classic Grasshopper, but the Chartreuse added a herbal complexity, and there is a dash of heat on the finish from the chili liqueur. Next I had the Flare Gun (Yellow Chartreuse, Overproof Rum, Italian Bitter, Lime, Cane, $20). The yellow Chartreuse definitely comes through, but it's softer and has a light sweetness, unlike the green variety. Even though it contains overproof rum, it is perfectly balanced and not boozy at all. I usually don't like bitter drinks, but the bitterness was at a perfect light level. I finished off with the Tales from the Black Lagoon which is my favorite drink here, and it's also a favorite of many of the bartenders. All three cocktails were a home run. Chartreuse is an expensive spirit, so those drinks cost a little more than average. Shout out to Karen, Joey, Edgar, Jordan, and Ying for excellent hospitality, as always. Strong Water is our favorite place. We can't wait to go back!

We arrived around 6pm on a Sunday evening and we were bummed that it was packed full inside. We decided to go have a drink upstairs, and then come back down later to see if it was any less busy. There must have been one big group who left because 30 minutes later, it was completely empty inside. There are a few wood tables outside of the entrance and several two seat tables along the outside of the side of the train, but for a first visit we definitely wanted to be inside. When you come inside at BXCR, there are two long green couches along each side that wrap around to the entrance to maximize available space. There are two steamer trunks on each side that serve as tables. We were surprised that all of the tables had a Yahtzee game on them, and we had a blast playing that while we enjoyed our drinks. If you happen to roll a Yahtzee, they give you a candle as a prize. There is good background music playing that fits the environment. There is some good décor with overhead baggage racks and international clocks on one wall, and gauges on the wall next to the bar. There are some small rectangular windows along the top of both sides, and some curtained windows on the right side which do let a little light in. When the main entrance door is opened before its dark outside, it does let quite a bit of light in and kills the ambience temporarily. I would recommend coming closer to or after sunset to not let any outside sunlight interfere with your experience. The drinks are made at the bar in the rear where there are several seats and a little standing room. It wasn't on the current menu, but I saw on a previous menu they had an Amaretto Sour so I started with that, and it did not disappoint. It was nice and frothy from an egg white and had Angostura bitters on top. My girlfriend started with the Calm Cruise which was great. It's basically a Pina Colada, but with an additional honeydew flavor in the background. For number two, I tried the C-League cocktail. The smokiness of Mezcal has grown on me lately if it is not the primary flavor, and in this drink it is at a nice level somewhere in the middle. The cucumber and cilantro are definitely present, along with a little heat from the ancho verde and a little sweetness from the Luxardo maraschino. This is a excellent easy-drinking tequila cocktail. Her number two was the Aviation which she enjoyed. Vince was our main bartender along with Sarah. They were very friendly and fun to chit-chat with while they were mixing up our drinks. This is definitely a cool place to check out, and we will definitely return.

It is located in downtown Fullerton, next to the Les Amis Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurant. Look for the entrance on the west side of the building with a red entrance and Chapter 4 projection logo on the sidewalk. You can make a reservation on their website. We walked in and were greeted immediately. Seating options include tall chairs at the bar, low booths along the front wall across from the bar, and various tables in the main lounge area. All of the chairs look very comfortable. We sat in one of the booths across from the bar. It has a great vibe inside with a dark ceiling and walls, and is lit on the dimmer side. There was light lounge/soft jazz music playing when we visited. They also have live jazz music on some nights. A bowl of nuts, water, and menus arrived quickly. They have a great menu of house-curated cocktails, their spins on classic cocktails, and a large list of whiskeys and other spirits. They also have several food items on the menu. They have private liquor lockers available to store personal bottles for members Before I continue, I have to say that JC, one of the owners, who greeted us and was our server all evening, provided outstanding hospitality. While researching their bar menu online, we saw the cloud cocktail which had a very unique presentation with a burning ember cloud-like display. We came for my girlfriend's birthday, and she knew that would be her first drink. Unfortunately when we tried to order it, they were out of the gas for it. We noticed that the physical menu was a little different than the online menu. Apparently they had just changed the menu and had not updated the website yet. She wanted the Dirty Dill which wasn't on the new cocktail menu, but they were still able to make it. Dirty Dill (Gin, Vodka, Lemon, Pickle Juice, Olive Juice, Milk Washed & Clarified, $19). We could smell pickle on the nose, but when we took a sip, it was very boozy with little pickle or olive flavor. We asked if they could add some more pickle juice, and JC brought us a big shot glass of pickle juice so she could adjust it to her liking. She liked it once she added some more pickle juice. I started out with the Cococacaocoladaclara cocktail (Cacao-Infused Rum, Orange Liquor, Pineapple & Lime Juice, Coconut Milk Clarified, $18). This wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I had a hard time picking out the flavors. It was definitely strong and boozy. We were finishing our first round when we spotted JC walking towards our table with a cloud! He managed to find whatever it takes to make the effect, and we were very appreciative. I have seen a lot of presentations, and this was definitely a unique one. The birthday shot was very good, and he said the ingredients were mezcal, lavender, and lemon. Old Fashioneds have been growing on me lately. After the great presentation of the cloud, I had to try the Sinatra Old Fashioned (Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select, one dash of chocolate Bitters, $40). It is served in a rotating crystal glass, lit from underneath, with a clear ice sphere. Again, the presentation was great, and it was the smoothest old fashioned I've ever had. She had her eye on the Tuk Tuk for her second drink (Coconut Fat Washed Rum, Supasawa, Pandan Syrup, Mango Syrup, Rice Garnish, $18). She asked if it was very sweet, and he said that it was indeed quite sweet. Instead, she opted for the Firefox (Vodka, Pomegranate, Lemon, Vanila, Rose Liquor, Cherry Bitters, $18). Once again, this cocktail had a great presentation. It's served in a short, wide glass that sits perfectly on top of a piece of petrified-looking wood. You hold the glass with both hands and sip it like a bowl of soup. It was very balanced and smooth, with a nice tartness and light sweetness. JC stopped by again to check on our second round. A few minutes later he surprised us again, and returned with shot sized versions of the Tuk Tuk to sample. It was definitely on the sweeter side with good coconut and pandan flavor. We probably would have tried a third round, but we had dinner and a drink before coming here. Their menu of house-curated cocktails is impressive, and features many uncommon ingredients. We had a good time, but JC went the extra mile for us all night long and made it a great time. We will definitely return again.

There are a lot of bars in the area, but Chapter 4 is a touch classier, offering craft cocktails in a smaller, intimate setting. Service is overall very nice. The servers check up on you often and are friendly. The ambiance is moody, and on a cold winter night, feels warm and inviting. For regular patrons, lockers are available to store your personal collection of spirits, so that you may enjoy your favorite brews in the atmosphere of Chapter 4. We visited right in time for their winter seasonal menu. The Candlelight Confession from this menu is delicious, and served with a torched marshmallow. From their signatures, I really enjoyed La Peligrosa, a tequila based cocktail that was floral and refreshing. My drink of choice recently, however, has been a Pornstar Martini. I asked the bartender if he could make one for me, and he just happened to have the ingredients necessary. So he did :) It was really good.  I enjoyed myself so much on my first visit that I invited more of my friends to come the following Friday. There were 7 of us total. It was a tight squeeze, but they were able to fit us all at a table. I'm very grateful to the staff for accommodating us, but I definitely would recommend visiting with a smaller party. There was live music that night with a trumpet player, livening up the air with jazz music. We had Pornstar Martinis again, which were amazing. I also dabbled in their whiskey cocktails as those are their specialty. The High Society was quite the showstopper, arriving at our table topped with a woolen cloud set ablaze. The way the embers danced was nothing short of magic. Removing the cloud revealed a wispy layer of smoke, which was both captivating and added depth to the drink. The rye whiskey was smooth and palatable, with a steady warmth as opposed to a harsh burn and flavored by cherry bitters. I don't usually drink darks, but this was very enjoyable. I also took the opportunity to sample the Démodé, Chapter 4's take on an Old Fashioned, garnished with an orange peel and a Luxardo cherry. Like the High Society, the whiskey was smooth and enjoyable to sip over time.  I love Chapter 4. The drinks are palatable and interesting. The staff is welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is classy, yet laid back and cozy. In a downtown district filled with sports bars and pubs (which can be fun), Chapter 4 is my calm eye of the storm, a place to sit, relax, and enjoy the night with well crafted drinks and conversation.

Situated towards the back of a courtyard labeled "Make", Stone Groove Stillhoise is a dark, welcoming room with a long bar, ample tables around the room, and a steel countered kitchen at the back. All their whiskey cocktails are made with their bottles (MGP sourced for now) that have been aged using music (ask one of the bartenders for the story... very cool!). I tried their whiskey flight (American Single Malt (jazz), Bourbon (country), Bourbon (blues), and Rye (classic rock)). The music type listed is what was used to "shape" the tasting notes. Music is played over a cool hi-fi (not too loud), and the ambience is a speak-easy vibe. The food menu is not large, but it works. I had the slider and potato wedges and it hit the spot! The food and cocktails are where this place really separates itself. My fiancé and I will regularly drive over an hour to LA or San Diego for great dining experiences, and usually you have to compromise. Incredible cocktails but average food, or amazing food with a forgettable bar program. This place somehow nails both at an exceptionally high level. I travel quite a bit and have been to some of the world's top cocktail bars and Michelin-starred restaurants, and it honestly blew me away that a spot like this exists locally. The level of detail, creativity, and execution across both the menu and drink program is rare. The service was next level. We sat at the bar and Jimmy took amazing care of us, walking us through everything with real thoughtfulness and passion. We also had the chance to meet Krista, the owner, who was incredibly gracious and welcoming. We went on a Tuesday night and ordered the smoked carrot tacos, wagyu sliders, honey shrimp, and baked Alaska for dessert. Every single dish was outstanding. For drinks, I did the Side A / Side B bourbon tasting, which was such a unique experience. I genuinely couldn't believe how much the flavor profile shifted depending on the music being played while in the barrel. You'll know what I'm talking about when you come here. I also had the clear old fashioned, which was one of the most memorable cocktails I've had in a long time. The experience was so good that we were already texting all of our friends while we were still there. We already booked another visit in a few days with a group just so we can try more of the menu. Everything about this place exceeded expectations. Easily one of the best spots I've been to in Orange County since moving here in 2020. Cannot recommend it enough.

(The Anaheim packing district has private parking and it's easy to find a spot during the week. On the weekend, it's another story) You basically run right into the hammer bar when you enter from the main entrance. It's nothing fancy, gives off hipster vibes and is cool without trying to be cool. The two bartenders Josh and Xavier were amazing I came here around prime lunch time. I went and asked one of the bartenders, since they do not serve food if it was ok to bring some pastries inside and eat them with my drink. (There's a pastry place right next to the hammer bar) They said since it was a weekday and not busy I could bring something in. So I went and grabbed some food and sat there while drinking my drinks. They have bar seating and then they have hightop tables as well I asked them for some recommendations. Josh and Xavier both recommended The zombie (kept warning me that it was extremely strong. So I stayed away from that. Even though I'm confident I could handle it) The banana clip The pool noodle (I told them I needed it to be pretty / cool looking too, lol) I went with the pool noodle -Plantaray Pineapple Rum, Rhum J.M. Agricole, guava, apricot, lime and cava. AND, let me tell you, this was delicious AND looked amazing 10/10 Then I went with the banana clip- Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon, banana, mandarine, cinnamon, pineapple and lemon. 10/10, I loved it To be honest all the drinks sounded great. If I wasn't planning on going to other places and walking around the packing district, I would have just stayed at this bar and had a few more lol. Prices were extremely reasonable as well The service that Josh and Xavier provided was phenomenal 10/10. They were friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all the questions I had They also have mocktails, beer and wine. I highly recommend coming here for a drink if you are coming to the Anaheim Packing district. Or stay here for a while. I could have definitely stayed longer and tried more. I'll definitely be back next time I am in the area (On the menu it says they offer gift cards. So it would be perfect for any friends that live by this place and appreciate a cool bar)

Great spot on the 2nd level of the Anaheim Packing District. Friendly bartenders, but they have…read moreseating around all sides, so they might take a little while to get you your drink. They were playing some great 90s tunes and watching them make drinks, talk a little shit, and have fun was great to watch! I only had a single beer (local lager that the bartender recommended) as I was waiting for a reservation at another spot, but I'll definitely stop here again the next time I'm in the area.
