I moved to Conroe last year and needed a locksmith. It's getting more difficult to find an actual brick and mortar locksmith rather than an automated kiosk/machine. So I was happy to find one not too far from me. I've had to get keys cut, or locks re-keyed 4 times in the past year. 3 out of those 4 times James Brown Locksmith didn't do the job right. The last two times cost me a lot more than just what they charged me. #1 I needed some keys cut for my car. Regular keys that don't need programming. I try them all before I leave. None of them work. Not the end of the world. It happens, right? Go back inside and tell him. He looks upset and unhappy. He said it's going to take him awhile. I tell him it's no problem and to take his time. I walk next door to grab lunch and tell him not to rush. I come back an hour later and the keys are ready. The work, but not very well. They are OEM keys, not some cheap ones, so I know it's not the key. After a few days I'm annoyed that my new keys don't work smoothly. I get a wire brush and through a process of trial and error get both new keys working much better. I am not a professional locksmith and have never cut a key myself. #2 I need some door keys. They are just cheap Kwikset locks. They cut me 5 copies. They work well enough. I also bring two Toyota door lock cylinders in to get re-keyed for my son's car. $45 each. Not cheap, but I don't have the parts to do it myself and don't feel like spending an hour on YouTube figuring it out. #3 I bought my son an old Toyota that only had one key, and that key was not original. I order 3 keys from Toyota and bring them to James Brown for cutting. When I come back he complained about how hard the metal in the keys were. They were key blanks directly from Toyota so ...? Because of the lack of confidence his comment gave me, and from my prior experience with this same guy, I definitely test all 3 keys before I go. None of them will turn the ignition or unlock the doors. I bring them back inside. Once again he isn't happy and manages to convey the feeling that he is really irritated that he has to make working keys. No apology, etc. He does something to them and I try each one in the ignition. They work. Yay. I drive away thinking everything is okay. I drive to Houston, lock the car, and go into a store. When I come back out, I can't get into the car. None of the keys will unlock any of the doors! They will start it, but only if I can actually get inside. I call James Brown Locksmith and explain the situation. The guy who answers tells me that he is actually separate from the store location and to go see them. He can't help me. Every phone number I Google is the same one that I just called. I called AAA and get them to break into my car so I can go home an hour and a half later. I go to James Brown and I'm not really happy but not a Karen so I just explain the situation. No apology, nothing. They just take the keys and eventually get them to work. This is a 20+ year old Toyota with no chip, not a BMW. How hard is it? #4 Remember those car door lock cylinders back in #2? I finally got around to replacing the old ones on the car. I'm not a mechanic and it's hot, so it takes me awhile. I get it all put back together and guess what? THEY WONT UNLOCK! Please bear in mind that JAMES BROWN LOCKSMITH cut all the keys for this car as well as rekeyed the locks! I've had enough. I drive all the way to The Woodlands and get them done right, quickly, and it's not as expensive. Not only that, but the people there were actually pleasant when I walked through the door and not annoyed that they have to get out of their chair to get my keys! I really really tried with these guys. Mostly because I get a lot of keys cut and wanted a good working relationship. The guy that is always behind the counter has 0 personality and can't do the most basic task of a locksmith properly: cutting keys.

I chose this company because of its positive reviews and expected a professional and transparent…read moreservice experience. The technician replaced the battery he brought, but after doing so, he still did not attempt to open the safe. Instead, I was told that I should consider drilling the safe or replacing the keypad, both of which would have resulted in additional costs. It was only after I repeatedly questioned whether every reasonable troubleshooting step had been tried that the technician made another attempt and successfully opened the safe without drilling or replacing any parts. My disappointment is about the lack of clear communication, the impression that more expensive solutions were suggested before all reasonable options had been exhausted, and the overall customer experience. After I contacted the company to share my concerns, they acknowledged that the technician could have communicated the troubleshooting process more clearly, but ultimately dismissed my concerns and closed the case without addressing the service experience. I hope this feedback helps future customers know what to expect and encourages the company to improve its customer service.

Mason was such a nice Southern gentleman and was well worth the value of his services. I highly recommend him!
