She said it was cheap and worth the trip, so I packed up my husband and 2 sons (so it wasn't hard to convince them to go) and we headed to find this majestical place. It wasn't located far, about 10 minutes or so from the campsite. It was in a small, quaint town with a few of cool shops and restaurants right along a creek. There is some parking on the street but also random lots that you can probably find a spot in. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CASH. We did not and there was no ATM, not even in the ice cream shop next door. The people at the ice cream shop told us we would have to drive to a Sunoco. My husband searched his truck for money and found about $1.50 in change...but in the meantime the one guy from the ice cream shop came over to the arcade and gave each of my kids $1 each. This was the nicest thing I've experienced in a long time. Anyway, we had $3.50. One quarter gets you 2 pinball games. This money went a long way. The place is freaking cool. Sure it kinda smells like someones basement, but that's because it's full of really old machines. It is well worth the visit. TIP: If you walk around and press START on some of the pinball machines you may get a free game. I get the impression alot of people don't realize they get 2 games for 1 quarter because they don't read the sign that tells you this by the change machine!

Entrance is a little tricky to get too so park on the side near the card store and walk around to the front of the building. Upon entering we were greeted with a HUGE selection of games, everything from NES to current Xbox, PS5 and Switch. Even had some cabinet games you could try out. Behind the counter they had some harder to find titles and some tables between rows was like a mini nerd yard sale with figures, books, crafts, etc. Husband picked up a gunpla model kit from 1980s, I got pokemon pinball for my game boy and some DS games I had been looking for. Price wise was about what I expected for what I got, seemed about middle of the road. On the left side of the building is a DVD section and fairly expansive comic book selection. Husband looked over what they had but nothing really stood out, we mostly came for the retro games. Guy behind the counter was super helpful and friendly, answering any questions we had about their stock and condition of the games. If we're in the area I plan on stopping back in and seeing what new stock they have on hand.

Timeline is like most current retro arcades, you pay X amount per hour for unlimited plays, and you pay when entering. The entry fee for an hour is very reasonable. The arcade is reasonably large and is spread across two rooms. Selection includes retro arcade machines, pinball machines, consoles, and other gaming items. Timeline does get newer Stern pinball machines like JAWS and Star Wars: Fall of the Empire, on top of a handful of older machines like Spy Hunter and White Water. The selection of general arcade machines is good, with machines like Spy Hunter, Coors Light Bowling, Rampage World Tour, and Revolution X catching my interest. Several TV's and couches are available for console gaming. Timeline has some problems however. They need to more clearly define the BYOB policy in its public facing information. From experience, BYOB here means "mancan/tallboy" sized drinks IE larger cans. The bigger issue is the machine maintenance problems which have gotten worse over time. I've run into several issues with machines not working, and during my last visit a bunch in the back room were out of order. Some of the machines at Timeline are clearly B or C grade machines, and simply do not play as better examples would. Is Timeline still worth a visit? Yes. It remains one of the better retro arcades in Pennsylvania, but there are better out there including in surrounding states like New Jersey.

Challenge Arcade is located in the Berkshire Mall's Boscov's Wing. Challenge is an old school…read morequarter arcade, but unlike those older arcades, it's got a nice open layout with machines placed against the walls. They have a fair number of machines, largely from the 1980's/1990's/2000's. Generally, the machines are well maintained. Machines that stood out to me include Die Hard Arcade, Mortal Kombat II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. They also have the usual selection of classics and a pool table, but the pinball selection is small. If they choose to expand in the future, there is plenty of room for additional machines. My biggest concern with the arcade would be the turnover in machines I've seen so far, with some rare and interesting machines already gone from the arcade that made it stand out. Challenge Arcade has been a nice addition to the Berkshire Mall that makes a stop at the mall more worthwhile.

This is a small business running this arcade and it was a great experience. The age range of us are young adults around 18 and older. And the arcade games were fun for us as adults, so you can imagine your child would love it too. Please keep in mind we did not try the following: food, baseball cage, or mini golf area. The games are like a snippet in the past. There are SpongeBob related games which feels like the 90's in the arcade. A lot of the games are ball-based or involve hitting your target. This is a refreshing difference of modern games which are very screen-based. The staff were amazingly friendly! They did a great job with working with us and many parents and kids coming in and out. There were a few ticket machine problems but the situations were rectified quickly. Also the staff gave tips and tricks for which games were most fun to play. Thanks so much to our 2 staffers tonight. I wasn't able to get their names but they were a man and woman with beanies on. You were great! Very awesome experience even with the limitations of winter time.
