I normally don't review dive bars, but OH MY GOSH! Here's the thing, I go out a LOT. Most of my reviews are 5 stars because I only care about reviewing places that blow me out of the water. This place sooooooo blew me out of the water. I was able to get every servers attention at one point or another in the evening (we are kind of needy, I'll admit, but we also were here for a while), tand each time I was met with nothing but graciousness. I took forever to decide what to eat for dinner. My boyfriend didn't want me to order the seafood platter, but fried clams is one of my favorite things.... So I asked our cute little server and she told me all their seafood is fresh and perfectly breaded. They had cocktail sauce and tartar so I knew they had to sell a decent amount of seafood. I went for it. I was really nervous to try my first bite, but OH MY GOSH!!!! It was soooo yummy!!!! I literally savored every bite of clam. The fish was also really awesome. Shrimp almost never impresses me, which sucks because I love shrimp. Nothing extraordinary about this shrimp, but not bad! I give this place 5 stars because the service is awesome and honest, I LOVED playing bingo on our random Wednesday night, and this dive bar has absolutely killer seafood. Also, this is the weirdest thing I've ever written in a review, but their toilet seats have a groove in them and they are shockingly comfortable. Bonus!!! read more

We've been a couple of times and I feel the need to chime in on the wait staff, they seem to have caught a bad rap in other reviews but have always been great on our visits. The place is your standard tavern, which I wouldn't ordinarily go out of my way for, but this one really does have amazing fried chicken. Now just the mention of fried chicken has my boyfriend wanting to go to this place. They also carry a pretty decent beer selection and a crowd that can be entertaining. We ordered dinner tonight to go tonight 1/31/20 The natchos were the worst pile of soggy,cold left over mess I have ever seen I tried to warm in the oven and the globs of cheese would not even melt The whole plate consisted of about 1/4 cup greasy,stuck together,cold taco meat,1 tablespoon of salsa,bout 12 olives and a scant amount of tomatoes. the rest was all red and black very very soggy chips! Would have given it 5 stars... as I had an awesome waitress who when our large group of about 15 did our live draft there a few weeks ago (most of whom are regulars there, and I WILL be sharing my next story with them...) THEN a friend and I go back for opening day of football. My server, BOBBIE C, fraudulently ran my credit card for more of a tip than I wrote. Lucky for me, and not for BOBBIE C, I keep all of my receipts and reconcile everything a couple times a month. BOBBIE C will change the numbers on your receipt to make a fatter tip. My ONE was changed into a FOUR on my total... which is only a few bucks, but how many other people is this happening to? I am writing the owner and also complaining to the BBB. This server needs to be investigated and fired in my opinion. Lesson learned, pay in cash at 2121 or don't go. read more

Been a staple for my husband and I at least 1 -2 times a month for Chicken & Jo's to go, and Drummettes..Since 1998.. "worth the wait" Live in Fredrickson, they are on my way home. Only been here once- toward the end of June- but it was a great experience. Friendly, attentive waitresses, both of which provided fast service. Typical bar fare but yummy! Well, I came in here the other day with a friend. I had never been here before. I'm not a really big drinker so I didn't know what to get here. So I just stuck to the basic vodka cranberry with lime. We decided to order food, I was told there wings were delicious, and there JoJo's were enormous. I kind of wanted buffalo wings but normally I'm always disappointed no matter where I go. so I decided to get their spicy blue cheese burger. Silly of me not to read the description. I thought it was going to be a burger Pattie, blue cheese crumbles, buffalo wing sauce, and the usual lettuce, tomato, onion, mayonnaise Exedra. First of all let me say that the time for us to get our food took forever. by that time I have already had 3 drinks, and still waiting for my food. My friend told me that they usually take a long time because of the chicken drumettes that they serve there. Finally the moment arrived where my food came to the table and as I looked at my burger I was a little disappointed. I did not see any buffalo sauce, or jalapeno slices. What I seen was a burger patty, lettuce, tomato, & a ton of blue cheese crumbles on top of my burger patty and what looked like I don't know either or crispy onions or crispy jalapenos, but when I took my first bite it was not spicy. I did not get the JoJo's because I did not want enormous piece of potato on my basket. instead I got regular fries, and that was even more disappointing my fries were as limp as a cooked noodles. No crunchy outside no soft inside just blah. At that point I said to myself there's no point of returning this burger because I will not know when I'm going to get my new one. Instead I ate this spicy ketchup that they serve on the side. It tasted like pure ketchup and Tabasco sauce it was okay. As for the drinks were OK in my opinion they tasted like cranberry and vodka, but my friend says that the alcohol drinks here are weak. It did not bother me I don't really drink too much. It got really, really, really busy later on that evening and it seemed that the service kind of slow down a little bit more and took my friend I don't know how many times to wave down a server to finally get a box for all her leftovers. When it was time for us to go home,when I got my check I was quite surprised the and I was surprised in a good way. The prices were actually pretty good. Prices of the drinks that is. If my friend wanted me to go with her there again I would probably say yes. I probably caught the kitchen at a bad day so I'm not going to give them a totally bad review just on this one time. I'm a huge fan of this place! We've been going there for years for dinner, parties, and karaoke. We always have so much fun when we're there. The drinks are priced right, the food is delicious bar food, and there is lots to do (darts, pool, pull tabs, karaoke, watch sports). If you're planning to go on in a busy night or with a crowd, I recommend calling ahead to reserve a table. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the parking and the space inside fills up fast. I'd love to see them expand. Really good neighborhood bar! read more

This review is based more on our Server than anything. And I'm basing this on a HUGE bday party she served, and I've been to many. Her name was Brenna F.. I just want to say wow, wow, wow! She was wonderful. She was pleasant, helpful, patient, kind, VERY attentive and kept a smile on her face the entire time. This can be hard to do when dealing w/large party that is eating and drinking all night. She made it simple when we ALL presented her our groupons and even returned a couple shots that we didn't like and let us select anything else. I've been to 21/21 quite a bit and we love the chicken and jo's, which is why we go, and they are still terrific, but I have never written a review on Yelp and decided to do so because of Brenna F. :) read more

I used to roll around the South End bars on the weekend looking for great 'bar food', Chicken & Joe's being my favorite. About the time I wandered into the 21 a couple years ago I had a separate Rolodex on my desk for this purpose - with the Bar's & Hole-in-the-walls name & food listed with 1-5 stars, broken down by food types. Well, the 21 was one of two places to earn 5 stars for Chicken. They have great bar food, friendly staff, & pretty decent drinks. Even now when I try to limit the 'junk' food that goes into my body for health reasons, I still go to the 21 now & then to get an order of Chicken & Joes' that I know I will feel guilty about for weeks. read more

A PLU mainstay in my day, every time I visit Fritz's 2121 Club I go back to the 70's again. Those 60 oz. pitchers for a 1.75 each are gone but the main staple of Jojos and Drumettes are still there. Everything has been good, but my favorite is the gigantic "2121 Burger" with potato salad. It's a two fisted burger with "the works" and the potato salad is just like mom used to make. I am a local of 35 years and I just have to say they used to be good. Now, you just don't know what your going to get. World Famous Chicken and Joe's? Hasn't been that way for years. Gotta say that if your after good Chicken and Joe's, you will be disappointed half the time, maybe more. We were there on 7/16. The 3 of us went in with the intention of having a drink and lunch. We ordered our beverages and the bartender/ waitress stated that she will be over to take our order. We waited for about 10 mins and she never came over. One of us finally had to walk up to the bar and place the appetizer order. We get our appetizers and order our food. We ordered 2 chicken and fries and 1-chicken and steak fry. We sat in that restaurant for 90 min with food. When we asked she was like well we only have 1 cook and 2 fryers. But there was people that came in after us and got there food BEFORE us. She was finally like Oh your order just came up and is being plated up. We said pack it up to go. We got tried of sitting there and waiting. We then get home with our order open the boxes and 2 of the orders were wrong. Instead of giving us the normal chicken dinner (breast, wing, leg, thigh) there were 9 drumsticks in the boxes and only a half of a handful of fries!!! So we then call (speak to the same girl that helped us) and ask for a manager, no manager was available so we requested to have on call back. We were there on 7/16 and today is 7/20 and still no manager callback. Its going to be a long time before i step foot back in this place. If you are looking for a place to be made to feel as unwelcome as possible and that your mere existence in this world annoys the life out of the entire staff, this is the place for you! I walked through the door to get some lunch and was greeted with "is there something I can help you with?" When I said I would like to have lunch and a drink I was met with a blank stare and a friendly response of "k"... I ate all of my food and drank all of my drink never to be checked on again. There's a full staff and minimal customers and the staff are more preoccupied with afterwork events of the previous day then to interact with customers. NOT WHAT IS USED TO BE! My father and law has been going here for more than 20 years. The food is not any where near what is used to be. What happened to the recipe of the 2121 sauce? Ketsup and tabasco certainly is not the original recipe, yuk. The fries were extra greasy, even for tavern food.The take home box was drenched in grease. My grilled chicken burger was served with cold chicken. The jo jos are so big it's like eating a quarter of a giant potatoe per jo jo. My family has been going here for many years. We will not be back. The food is horrible and the waitresses don't seem happy to be at work or care about providing good customer service. read more

Had a fun time watching the women's World Cup on the big screen! Great for watching sports. The service was very prompt and friendly (just the way I like). Food was terrific, drinks were good, decor was really cool. It seems a little dated but you can tell from the people that go there that it is well liked. I have not been to 2121 recently but thought I would give you a little bit of history. 2121 was built by my Grandparent, Harry and Hilda (toots) Winrich in apprx 1968. Fritz tavern was right next door. Once they completed the 2121, Fritz was burnt down by the fire department. I was in 3rd grade and 2121 was closed on Sundays (I think everything was closed on Sundays back in the day). I remember my Grandma being so upset when she would find cigarette burns on the new furniture. They kept that place so nice and clean. When the retired and sold the place of business the chicken and jojo's recipe was sold with the business. That recipe is a trade mark and in the day the best in the west. We came on a Saturday night around 8 as we had a groupon voucher. I ordered the chicken strips and Jo's and my husband had the 2121 Burger. Both of us had the house salad. The food came piping hot, huge portions and tasted great. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. We stayed for the karaoke which started at 9. The karaoke host was very entertaining and lots of good singers too. We stayed longer than expected and plan to go back. A good overall experience. read more
