My retirement account was/is through Fidelity. When I returned to Washington State in approximately October/November 2019, I looked up to see if Fidelity had in-person offices I could go to and ask some general questions about my account to. I found this location, however I did not immediately visit as I worked through most of my questions, such as how to change my address on the account, on my own. After checking the online balance and withdrawal process, I decided it was time to come in and just ask if I could withdraw funds. I had not talked to a Fidelity financial advisor before and was uncertain as to if/how to withdraw funds. Remembering this location, I arrived a little after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Thursday 5 October 2023. Parking spaces were easy to navigate and the entrance easy to find. The interior was pristine and a friendly front desk worker, who I decided to term my financial advisor, greeted me. I asked if it was possible to withdraw funds from my account, to which he walked me through an example of what it might look like/entail to withdraw funds in full or partial amount from the account. Since I did not have my account details with me, he used my ID to pull up the account. He was friendly and knowledgable. The two big drawbacks I found out to withdrawing funds at my age (approximately 31 years old) were: 1) taxes, and 2) a 10% penalty for not being 59.5 years of age or older. This was very helpful information, as was the two general withdrawal options for a partial withdrawal: 1) a set withdrawal amount, or 2) a set in-your-pocket amount. My tiny little brain and I left with much to think about and I was happy to visit and get some guidance.

I didn't choose to invest with Edward Jones. It was chosen for me as a company retirement plan. I…read morehave experience with several other investment companies. 1) Eric didn't follow my directions as to how I wanted my money invested and when I planned to retire. 2) Edward Jones charges fees for things that at other investment management companies are free. 3) Account management, things that are extremely simple and done online in less than a minute at other companies, are an arduous process at Edward Jones. Case in point, changing your beneficiaries. 4) My Edward Jones account seriously underperformed relative to my other accounts (see #1). Specifically, the performance between January of 2016 into the fall of 2017 was so poor (in my estimation), and the response to my complaint about it was so conceited, and so dismissive that that was when I choose to end my relationship with Edward Jones. 5) Directing my account myself, putting my money in something with returns that matched my expectations was expensive (see #2) 6) It cost me about 3% of my account value to roll over my account to another investment company. UPDATE: I got what I thought was a final statement. It turns out Edward Jones didn't rollover the total amount in the account. They shorted it about $51. I still have a login at EJ, but that account is not connected to my login account anymore - just an old one that was terminated about 5 years ago.

It was also very helpful to understand the strategy, service & Integrity she operates through Edward Jones. I had an IRA I'd left too long in a glorified savings account. I already had a financial counselor that I've been working with for other things, which didn't bother her. Having met Karen in a business group, watching & listening to her over time, I decided she would be the one to invest this with. Every question I had & every reason to invest it in a certain direction, was explained clearly. This included taking a risk assessment for my comfort zone, so that she would not ask me to go any further than I wanted to. To me, that also is a mark of her as an excellent financial counselor, who wants what is best for me. I highly recommend you get in touch with her for a free assessment to see if you're where you want on your goals, whether you're just starting out or need to figure out how to get started, midway or further on your investing journey.
