Things began great with Chris. He showed up when he said he would. Diagnosed the issue, and prescribed the solution. He told me the shop would have to order the permanent replacement part, but he could install a temporary one. I paid him in full for everything, including his coming back in a week with the permanent replacement part. The problem is that last part never happened. He responded the first time I contacted him, telling me the shop never ordered the part, that he'd reordered it and would have it done that week. That was 6 weeks ago. He hasn't called or texted me back. Let me repeat, I've already paid him for the part and the installation. He's stopped responding to me. This seems out of the ordinary for him given his other reviews but this is unacceptable. read more

He's not into selling you things you don't need, and nobody's ever had to touch his work after it's done. Yes, one-star reviewers, it's a shame he's just one guy. Our heating broke down on a bitterly cold Friday. I called a HVAC repair shop (not Chris), who said someone would come fix it at 9am the next day. I even called the next morning at 830am to confirm the appointment, and they said somebody would come between 9-10am. Nobody showed up. By 3pm, I had given up on these guys, and I called another shop. They said a technician would get back to me. Nobody called back. Now it's 8am on Sunday morning. I decided to call Chris. He was quick to pick up the phone, said he could get to my place in 60-90 minutes, and was upfront and clear about the pricing. So, I made the appointment with Chris... and somehow, 30 minutes later, our heating decided to start working again. I called Chris to explain and to apologize for canceling, half expecting him to get angry. But he was really good natured about it. So, I never had to chance to evaluate Chris as a technician, but I just wanted to give him a shout-out for being so responsive. This business is ran pretty weirdly. The phone number listed is the cell phone number of the owner and is always turned off until late evening. How can you run a business trying to save your phone minutes? Then if you by chance get in contact with the owner he will make an appointment with you and never show up, then call the next day to reschedule and never show up then either. As a customer you literally have to beg this guy to work for you to take your money. You are better off finding a professional actually interested in work than wasting your time with this guy. read more

We moved into our new house a month ago and on the first hot day, we realize our central air wasn't working right (fan on, air hot). I called several places, but Chris was the first to respond and he talked me through the issue trying to help me fix it myself and save me the cost of a visit. When we realize there was some wiring issue that I wasn't capable of fixing, he came in the very same night at 9pm (I work very late most days) and we troubleshot the issues together, him teaching me how the system works and how I can save myself some money in the future by knowing where issues may come up. It's currently super cool in here, everything was fixed quickly and on top of it all, Chris was an incredibly friendly and sincere person. I cannot recommend him highly enough to everyone who is clueless around HVAC issues. Prompt, friendly, and a great value. I called on Wednesday to see what happened, which reminded him to look at the photos. After some more discussion he scheduled a site visit for Friday. I took the day off work and stayed home all day. I was surprised at my experience after seeing the other reviews. Our condenser broke on our HVAC AC unit (mid-August, we just moved in), and we needed someone ASAP to help fix it. I was pleasantly surprised initially when he said he would come over on a Friday night at 8pm to do the evaluation that day. Paid for the initial consultation fee plus a small deposit for parts. Called him a few times to schedule a follow-up and a few days later he had the parts in order to test and confirm what was broken (condenser). The initial quote to replace came in $2-3K higher than 2 other HVAC specialists I spoke to for 2nd and 3rd opinions (in context - that is 2X the cost of doing the work with the person I am using now). Then he went radio silent, and I never heard from him to follow up on more detailed estimates or the work. I did confirm with a other specialists that his assessment of the condenser being broken was correct. However some other information we were given about our fan being the wrong one did not seem to be correct. At this point, I'm considering the fee and deposit (the entirety of which should have been applied to future work) as sunk cost, and as I have gotten quotes for far less, have not called to follow-up with him on it. He may be an OK option for quick fixes where he can come in, fix it then and there, take the deposit, and get out. But I didn't have a great experience nor was my problem fixed with him, and I needed to keep calling him to get any follow-up information. Overall, I felt his quotes were high (even the initial assessment fee was over double the other companies I had to pay for opinions), and as we were moving in and dealing with a host of other issues, so having to keep following-up with someone you have paid in good faith of work being done was not for me. read more

I recently found Chris though Yelp when I was searching for someone new to service my residential cooling units, one traditional and another split-system. He was knowledgable and professional and clearly answered all of my questions during our initial phone call. I called him to book an appointment and he insisted on coming as soon as possible, even choosing to work on a holiday. He called to verify our appt. and was on time. He took me up onto my roof and taught me a bit about the equipment I had up there and suggested some ways I could better maintain it. Though no repair was required (, he measured my system's pressure, checked the coolant levels and insured that all connections were proper. He also suggested a better filter that I could use on the inside. All in all I was quite pleased with his professional attitude, knowledge, demeanor and service. Give him a try- he runs a small business, he works hard and he seems to care about building trust with the customer. And his prices are very fair. Our heat failed at around 10 tonight. Thermostat (Nest) reported it wasn't getting any power. Unit (York) was cold and silent. Called 1NewYorkHVAC at around 11 PM. We called our standby HVAC guy to come out when our AC stopped working. He gave me a quote to fix the compressor and said he'd be here in a few days to install. So I started calling around to get some quotes and see if he was being honest. Thank goodness. I spoke to Peter at NY HVAC who quickly directed me to the source (the fuse on the roof of all things) and he walked me through the resetting process and now my once sweltering home is now cool and he SAVED US NEARLY THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS. I was on Long Island and needed to find a repair person for an apartment my mom has in Brooklyn. It was the day after Christmas and a pretty nasty storm out. Went onto yelp and found 1NYHVAC. Anyway, very nice guy but doesn't know a lot about what he's doing. Had to visit our apartment 6-7 times and never managed to fix a simple problem with our boiler.
