The best pizza outside of New York City I've ever had. Handmade dough and ingredients that are incredibly fresh.

Definitely not NY pizza. Right off the bat, as soon as I opened the box I could smell the sauce. It smelled and tastes like spaghetti sauce. Sure enough, as I'm eating the pizza pieces of tomatoes were coming out. Where in NY does your pizza sauce have chunks of tomatoes? It's not bad pizza, but it's also not great and not NY. Was in the area and decided to check this spot out! Interior looked nice and the menu was affordable. A slice of pizza is 2.99. So my type of spot. When placing the order we had asked for two slices of cheese. But once we got the box It was 3 slices of pepperoni, but we weren't mad though. We were actually glad to have It. My first bite into the pizza, I was like ahhh basic, but the more I ate It, the more flavor I consumed and It was amazing on my palette. From the crust to the sauce It was perfection. The crust even had a sweetness to It. Overall it's a cool mom and pop type of places with fellas holding the pizza oven down. Definitely would recommend them. Pizza is very good. Subs are okay, the bread is not the best and the meat is a little thin usually. I have tried the cheesesteak and the Italian sub and neither were something worth raving about, but not terrible. Friendly service and consistent though, so definitely worth a visit from time to time. read more

This is probably my one of my two favorite (if not favorite) New York style, thin-crusted pizza in the Pasadena/Glen Burnie area--great flavor and crust with bubbles. It is so cheesy though, that it was a bit hard --particularly one instance--for my GI tract especially with my lactose intolerance even with three pills of Lactaid, so I may have to watch how much I eat at one sitting. But it is delish! And the calzones are the size of a small pizza! read more

I picked up dinner the other night for my husband and I. We have ordered pizza here a few times in the past and loved it! It is definitely a popular place for pizza in the area. We ordered the Chesapeake wings. Delicious, maybe a tad too much seasoning but nothing you can't swipe off. I ordered the kid's chicken parmesan (shhh, I act like a kid sometimes!) I thought the portion was plenty for me. My husband ordered the Italian Sub. Definitely light on the meat. Although he would give it a great mark for flavor, he couldn't get past it only having one slice of each meat on it. We have tried Italian cold cut subs all over the place. Unfortunately, it is a common theme for them not to be super filled. I also got a side of fries. Nothing super fancy! What can you say, might be the best cheesesteak on the East Coast. What they like and ambiance they make up for in flavor. I had a cheesecake with a side of fries and a bottle sprite. As I said the cheesesteak is second to none. The bread is freshly made, and the ribeye steak, onions, and cheese are delicate and delicious. I've eaten there several times and not a single one has been any less than perfect. I highly recommend if he won a true cheesesteak stop by and give them a holler. The Mozzarella on this pizza is Awful tasteless and lumpy! The original owners are gone and since this Changed hands, they changed the original 1978 recipe or have used lesser quality ingredients. The Mozzarella is horrible! We hated it! We went and tried it because someone else told us it's not good like it use to be. And it's more than not good! Don't waste your money. read more

Small pizza shop located in Giant's shopping center. The pizza was good. Nicely sauced. However, avoid their chicken wings!!! I cannot believe I paid money for these. They were dried and hard as a rock. Barely any meat left and overly seasoned! I've had bad wings but these definitely took the cake. I don't know if I'll try them again. read more

Finding "your" pizza place in a new town is always a struggle. I'm very particular about mine: New York Pizza, but TRULY NY pizza. So many claim it, so few achieve it. (Check out a previous review I wrote for DuPont Pizza in DC. True NY style!) Searched Yelp and found a review that said if you love NY or North Jersey style pizza, go to 1978. Clearly, the reviewer is not from those parts. The pizza was pretty good, but lacked the hallmark characteristics: it had a thick crust and no grease, but the sauce was sweet. The inside of the restaurant is fascinating. A huge blowup of, I assume, the owners' passport indicating he arrived from Italy in, you guessed it, 1978. Photos of Frank Sinatra and other nostalgia. The place was hopping with lots of takeout orders being filled. Counter staff was efficient. Sign on the door said $9.99 for a large pie on this particular day. Well worth it. Side note: there was a guy in the parking lot playing Hallelujah on an electric violin. Made me teary, so he got the $5 I saved on the pizza. read more

Ordered a 16" sausage and peperoni, 1978 NYC pizza. Delivered to the table - hot and fast! Wow! check out the pics! This is one great pizza. The crust was thin and cooked perfect. Just the right amount of sauce (flavorful, not sweet). Correct balance of toppings. The sausage seemed to be thin sliced sausage links, and chucks of sausage (mild but very tasty). Good amount of pepperoni. I added some Italian seasonings, and pepper flake, perfect for me.... Ciro is a serious, hard working person, and it shows in his passion for his food. "I want to make sure everything is right and there are no mistakes" I always check the condiments cart to see if it is fresh and vibrant and clean. Yes 10-10-10. Attention to detail is evident. We have been coming here since moving into the area and have found the best pizza in town. We've had their Grandma pizza, veggie white, Popeye, and buffalo chicken and they are all 10/10! The crust is always perfect- it holds up the slice, the sauces-both red and white- are tasty, and the toppings are always plentiful and cooked perfectly. However, the customer service is lacking. Each time walking through the door, they don't even look up to greet you as they are too busy on their phone. Overall, can't let that get in the way of fantastic pizza. read more

Somehow we have lived in the Lake Shore area for almost 7 years and haven't eaten here- until today, but we will be regulars! We got a meat lovers and a white pizza. They are both delicious, from the crust to the cheese to the toppings! I love white pizza and 1978's is the best I have had in the area. This place was amazing! My new favorite pizza joint in the Annapolis area! By far!! We started out with some chicken wings and garlic knots. Both were good but I especially liked the chicken wings. Nice big wings fried up just right, not burnt or raw, and the buffalo sauce was actually buffalo sauce lol They were very decently priced as well. The main course was the pizza of course. It was the closest to NY style pizza(and the best) that I've had to date in the Annapolis area. Perfectly cooked crust, fresh ingredients and in my opinion the most important ingredient in pizza, the mozzarella cheese was delicious. I also really enjoyed the fresh green peppers(see picture). I absolutely love this place. And when I can afford a whole pizza. I can buy a slice and it's so darn DELICIOUS!!! Tuesday the small pizza for only $9. But so worth it. I love it. I'm on my way now. We decided to dine in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Perfect timing because no one was eating inside at the time. The customer service was great and our food arrived pretty quickly. We ordered the meat lovers pizza and onion rings. The pizza toppings were good and cooked to perfection but the crust was way to thick in my opinion. Also I'm not sure if the onion rings were fresh or frozen but I did not care for the breading on them. Next time I would like to try the subs. read more

There are definitely pros and cons to this place, but I still think they have the best pizza in the area. The leftover pizza is even better after its reheated in the oven on a hot sheet pan--nice & crispy. The portions are very large here. They are heavy on toppings so consider ordering less toppings than you normally would. The 14" pizza always seems to hold up and look better than the 16" pizza. Grandma's pizza is bomb! But Pepperoni and Sausage is the husbands go to. The Sausage is sliced thing and is lovely. The sauce is hands down the BEST. I would skip the wings.... they are so hit or miss. The last couple salads I got there were meh. I had to pick out greens that were soggy/gross before I could eat it. The festival salad is the best deal though! They have not used artichoke the last couple orders so maybe they don't carry it anymore and I have an old menu? Either way that is a bummer. GARLIC KNOTS and side of meatballs are always good and make a nice meal with a side salad. read more

Tasty pizzas! We ordered a meat pizza which was superb and the white pizza which was ok. I would have given this place 5 stars but took a star off because the white pizza had too much ricotta cheese which made it dry and I wanted a greasy pizza!! We will definitely order again soon! read more
