The best Cheeseburger hands down! We both ordered the 1841 cheeseburger cooked medium. It was hand patted, hot and juicy. We needed extra napkins! The onion rings were beer battered and so tasty. The burger had leaf lettuce, onion and juicy tomatoes on it. The brioche bun was perfect on it. Soft but strong enough to hold it all together. The service is top notch! Brandy made us feel very welcome, answered all our questions and even brought us a sample of their homemade roast chicken salad! Great vibe and inexpensive too! What a nice, unexpected find. In Lenoir for a family event, we wanted a light bite before heading back East. This filled the bill. We ate the Caesar salad with a generous portion of blackened salmon astride ($10). Also, the large garden salad. All of their dressings are home made; we sampled several. Was in Hickory for the first time and decided to have lunch in this very quaint restaurant. Well, the owner Vicki has the place so decked out with lots holiday decor. Some vintage and some modern decorations. There's a lovely separate space for private functions with all the Christmas you can handle. There's a giant Christmas tree in the room all light up. The food is a mix of burgers and entrees all prepared to perfection. I highly recommend this sweet restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. read more

I was walking around in the area and went in for pick up. I can only comment about the quality and taste of food as I did not eat in. I ordered portobello sandwich and expected it to be a healthy. Well , when I received the meal - I realized this was the real south! The sandwich had generous amount of cheese along with the mushroom. I had a side of vegetable medley with the order as well. The meal was huge and delicious. I didn't like the sandwich bread so I avoided most of it and cleaned off the rest. Overall for the price of 10 bucks, it was a great meal. This is a good place if you're hungry, but a bad place if you are on a diet. Our server was prompt and the rest of the folks there were aiming to please...and they did! I recommend the 1841 Pimiento Cheese (house-made pimiento cheese dip served with warm pita points), the Fried Green Tomato BLT (fried green tomato, apple wood smoked bacon, mixed greens, and mayo), and the Carolina Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich (served with coleslaw and house-made BBQ sauce). I travel quite a bit. I've had great and not so great experiences ranging from high end to hole in the wall, all over the country... ... this place, is my favorite of all time. Vicki is the best. THE BEST!!! The menu, fantastic! You won't be able to decide. So much homemade, cooked with love items to feed your soul, seriously. You quickly realize it's a place where locals go... and everyone was so kind. Obviously, I was not a local but got recommendations from everyone... Vicki (owner, behind the bar), a waitress, two fellas sitting at the bar. On my way to the restroom, this sweet lady, with a sweeter smile said "I know what you're looking for", put her arm around me and walked me past the kitchen. "The one in the back is a little bigger" I returned to my seat and asked Vicki how she was related to the sweet lady "That's mom" My food was amazing. I wish I could've tried it all. In for lunch... try the turkey granny Smith apple mustard croissant and fried okra. Portobello fingers, fried green tomato sandwich, patty melt, chicken salad sammy (which was recommended by many), spinach artichoke dip, dry rub wings. I didn't have it, but heard the Ribeye is fantastic. Food was great, the people were even better. Don't be in hurry, enjoy the atmosphere and the food, soak in the love. THE FOOD IS GREAT! But within 2hrs, I met a guy who'd drive me home or walk my dog, another that'd help me bury a body but was so kind, Vicki, oh Vicki... dinner advice, life advice and just a magical human... and her mom, who I'm sure would've made us breakfast with a smile. Fun out side dining, the blackberry festival was in town, so a special menu was available. Had a Bold Rock seasonal blackberry cider that was delicious. Server was friendly and welcomed our dog on back deck. Burger is huge, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Chicken salad sandwich is not over mayonaised and filled with celery slices, nuts and grapes. Wow, what a great place to have a party. Vickie's 1841 Café has so many things you cannot get under one roof anywhere else for your entertaining purposes. We held our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at 1841 Café. There are not many places one can find with the space, the décor and amenities all in one package. First of all, to decorate in the unique feel of this place in historic Downtown Lenoir NC would bust most budgets. Next and most importantly, Vickie with her kitchen, worked one on one with us to create a unique experience. Eric, Bert and Danny handled our menu's special request with no problem. This kitchen has become one of the best in Lenoir. They took the extra effort to find the right ingredients to create a beautiful menu and display that not only tasted great, but also made it an extraordinary presentation for our special occasion. Our new extended families are from far away states of the north and mid-west. We wanted to have our best foot forward and Vickie and her staff knocked it out of the park for us. We had a night full of hors d'oeuvres, dinner, dessert and a great place to fellowship. They served 60 people comfortably in the event room. And with a full bar conveniently available next door in the Café's dining room, we had every need met. It was worth more than the price we paid, which is usual for anyone who knows how Vickie works. She would rather you tip her staff well because that helps her develop a good team. It was a wonderful way to break bread and get to know each other as a new family. What a good place! My husband ordered the pork barbecue-he said it was the best he has ever had! I tried it and it was very good. I got a turkey croissant with pub chips. It was all good. This place was entirely empty on a Saturday at lunch as was the rest of downtown Lenoir. I came here with my husband and another couple as we had decided to explore downtown Lenoir after staying in a cabin the night before. We sat down in a booth without any cushions that was fairly uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. We were greeted by a young waitress who took our drink order. They have a pretty good beer selection including a couple of ciders. I picked the Apple Ginger Woodchuck to drink for $3.50, which I think is a very reasonable price for cider so I was pretty excited. 3 out of 4 of us ordered the 1841 burger with fries, while the 4th ordered the bbq with potato salad. The 1841 burger was very good. I had it with swiss because they did not have cheddar. I also had bacon on my burger which made it pretty much perfect. The fries were pretty good, shoestring and piping hot. The only thing that was a little weird, was everything seemed to be mixed with sugar. The bbq sauce was very sugary, the bacon was coated in sugar. I thought everything was great, because I love sugar, but if you are sensitive you might want to avoid either the bacon or the bbq. We went to the 1841 Café to have dinner listen to Pat and Ricky Kelleher, Irish folk singers from County Cork. When we arrived the place was packed and there was no seating in the room where the stage was located and we had to take the only available seating in an alcove in a separate room. We ordered food and drinks and began the wait while the show continued in the other room The waitress came back to check on us and explained that the food would be out shortly but, they were obviously very busy. We said, "Good, because we drove an hour to listen to the music." When the staff learned that they grabbed the next available table in the room where the stage was located and moved us. When our food arrived it was delicious. My wife had shrimp Alfredo with homemade rolls which she went on and on about and I had a cheeseburger with mixed greens and thin fries which were perfect. On the way out we met Tim Haas "The Big Guy in the Kitchen" (He has a web site and blog by that name) who spent time with us making certain that we had a great experience. We really appreciate the service we received on a very busy night and the food was excellent we'll be back even if there isn't entertainment. read more

This place is great. Vic, the owner I believe, ran the bar. There were quite a few people in the restaurant on Tuesday night with a private party as well. They serve a great selection of canned and bottled beer included the local Howard brewery beers, which made up for no draft selections! The appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip with pita slices was homemade and delicious. Vic recommended the shrimp wraps which had fresh and tender shrimp and spinach with sides of okra and mac & cheese. Stopped by with the family after a high school basketball game. We were wanting to try something new and found this one. I have a family full of picky and judgmental kids when it comes to food. They rate food everywhere we go. Anything over an 8 is great We started by sharing the egg rolls and some buffalo chicken dip. Neither lasted long. The egg rolls was very different with bbq and collards. I thought one of them would complain but they loved both each rated mid 8. Me and my oldest order the chicken Marsala. He got Mac and cheese as a side and loved it. I got the same and was surprise a place in Small downtown Lenoir could make such a dish well. The sauce was amazing. My youngest got the Shrimp and grits. First time ever eating shrimp and grits but loved it we all tried it and the sauce was very tasty. He also order a cup of chili to try and passed it around. Very good chili and we brought back leftovers because everyone was full. My daughter got the Chicken stuff with spinach and cheese. I can't remember a meal where she doesn't have something to be unhappy with it. She ate it all and enjoyed it. The best was yet to come. My oldest birthday was the next day so we got him a desert. After listing all the mouth watering desserts he settled on an apple spice cake with cream cheese icing. We all got to try it and everyone loved it so much we got another piece to go. Highly disappointed. My friend and I stopped in hoping to find a hidden gem....boy were we mistaken! First, we received our appetizer, salad, and entree within a matter of minutes with no time to eat and enjoy the food. Strike one. Then, my 10 oz. "Ribeye" turned out to be about a 5 oz. flank steak with 5 oz. of fat which was rather tough and hardly seasoned. Strike two. My friend ordered a spinach artichoke stuffed chicken with basil cream tomato sauce....that turned out to be half of a frozen chicken breast with spinach artichoke dip and Campbell's tomato cream soup. Better to go during lunch than dinner. It is busier during lunch but better service. We made the mistake of going to the Cafe for dinner once and ordering steaks (med rare) to treat ourselves for a date night. We waited for 10 minutes for a server to bring us a menu, then 10 to take our drink order, including water, and 45 minutes after ordering for med rare steaks. Had to ask for silverware, and water repeatedly. I ordered a wine and husband a beer, and we got the beer after 30 minutes and it was warm but never got the wine, so we had to ask the server to take the charge off the final bill. We hung in and didn't leave b/c we want to encourage restaurants in Lenoir, but this was ridiculous. Lunch has good sandwiches, and more attentive service. read more
