Once found , we were very pleased to see parking - rare in Edinburgh. The rooms were well appointed , a little small, and at first extremely noisy. We were on the first floor and could hear the clomping of guests on the exposed wood stairs. The breakfast room was also very near our door and I was thinking there was to be no sleeping - but I was wrong. Somehow , magically , the noise didn't wake us - I am a very light sleeper too. Whatever the sound dynamic was in the place - I slept very comfortably and quietly. If we were going to be spending time in our rooms , I would have found the space restrictive but for a good nights rest , it was great. The only other thing I felt was a head scratcher was the bathroom mirror. Very space age, 3-D type design that completely did not go with the decor. The breakfast room was lovely and the food was very good. The hosts are happy to accommodate your every need. They had umbrellas for the rain and a very nifty call button that summoned a cab in under 10 minutes ! It's location is walkable to some things but since you could have your car on property , it's easy to drive anywhere you want to go within a few minutes. Come and stay and enjoy this cozy gem in the midst of busting Edinburgh.

Specials are prepared on the weekends. This meal is so hardy you won't need lunch. Bedrooms are comfortable, clean, and beautifully appointed. The beds are as comfortable as any top tier hotel. The rooms can be blacked out for a very quiet deep long sleep. I slept better here then I have in months anywhere else. Good free high speed internet that is fast enough to stream video. Ross and Kathleen have created a charming experience that we will return to with every visit to Edinburgh.

The place is lovely, the room warm and comfortable and endowed with all the basics items and facilities that you would require. The hosts are adorable as well, always very kind; they made sure that I would be able to get to my room even though I arrived very late in the evening. They have been extraordinarily available during the booking process, since I got replies to my emails within few minutes. The place is well connected to both the city centre and the university by several buses lines passing very frequently. I'll definitely come back here if I will have another conference to attend in Edinburgh.

They had no problem with us checking in a bit earlier than expected. The location is a stone's throw away from the main attractions and has a nice choice of pubs and restaurants quite close (I personally recommend The Dogs, The Queens Arms and Eteaket). The bedroom was also lovely, the bed was comfortable and the boiler with tea and coffee to brew in the bedroom was a nice touch to warm our bones from the nice Edinburgh weather. There's a common living room with books and DVDs. You can take the DVDs to your room, where you have a DVD player. The breakfast was served at the next-door restaurant: Rick's, and while the food was good, the service on one of the days was a bit shabby. We had to wait a lot for our order and half of it was forgotten, the staff seemed like they were having a collective bad day. It's not the best choice if you want to grab something quickly and be on your way to explore the city. Anyway, I'd totally recommend this place and I'll definitely stay here again when going back to Edinburgh. It's very good value for money and a pleasant experience. This establishment is in a quiet residential street and you are guaranteed an excellent nights' sleep, despite it's situatation so close to shops and transport. The rooms are warm and comfortable, with Freeview TV and good lighting. The breakfast room is bright and airy and the fresh home-cooked breakfasts set you up nicely for the day. You are given your own keys so you can come and go as you please, and the number 27 bus stop (which takes you right through the city to Silverknowles) is immediately outside the front door. Other bus routes round the corner take you to Princes Street and the main shopping centres. Tollcross nearby boasts an excellent selection of restaurants, pubs, cinemas and theatres as well as a handy convenience store. We return to the Armadillo again and again whenever we visit Edinburgh - such a lovely place and such a warm welcome.

I've only really encountered it in the latter capacity, as when I lived down the road it become the accommodation of choice for visiting parents, mainly due to its convenient location. It's also a very peaceful place, with tranquil grounds set just off the main road, and, I suppose, a generally spiritual atmosphere. You certainly don't have to be Catholic to stay here, as long as you don't object to being surrounded by Catholic iconography; the corridor, as you go to breakfast, for example, has a very informative display of popes along the walls, while various saintly figures beam down at you wherever you are. The rooms are simple and comfortable, the prices reasonable and the staff very hospitable. So unless you're fervently anti-religious, the Gillis is a restful place to stay, and not far from the city centre.

We adored Paul and my hubby admitted he had a man-crush on him. The rooms come in three styles, Couture, Bespoke and Tailored. We stayed in the Lagavulin room on the top floor with a window view of the back garden and hills in the distance. The room was a bit small but comfortable. The bed is probably a full size which might not be ideal for two persons if you are use to more space. The spacious bathroom was sleek and modern and the heated floors were perfect for chilly mornings. The location is a little away from town but you can easily catch a bus in front of the B&B. DO NOT miss the breakfast here! This is truly a gourmet breakfast served in a most beautiful breakfast room. I had for the first time the traditional Scottish breakfast that came with a poached egg, bacon, sausage haggis and blood sausage. I have to say that I quite enjoyed the haggis. The porridge there is also very good unlike the kind you get in the states.
