The rooms were OK, a bit dated, the location was too far away from central Edinburgh. The staff were excellent, especially Mark on reception and Sanji in dining, however there was one notable exception, the manager. Whenever she was in, i.e. at reception, she was on the telephone. She, Nikki, would pleasantly acknowledge requests but not follow through, most often for requests for ice, we finally began purchasing it at the local store. I had also made several attempts to call the hotel from Paris & London during daytime hours and was directed to voicemail. Also, we frequently could not get through on the room phone to reception as it was busy, most often when the manager was on duty. If it is necessary for her to do business on the phone all the time, another line should be available. When I finally got through one morning I asked if my bill could be paid in US dollars as my credit card charges to convert. I was told that would be no problem but when I proceeded with payment, I was told by the manager that the information I was given was in error and they could NOT honor my request. read more
