We eat here all the time, truly a classic. It's super family-friendly, and has a giant menu for your picky eaters! I've had a variety of things off the menu and all of it has tasted really good and fresh. HOWEVER... people know how good this place is, so it's always busy, making it cramped and hard to maneuver for those with wheelchairs/strollers. This cafe has always reminded me of the East coast diners that I enjoyed during my college years and we've been customers since 2004. This is the first time back since the pandemic began two years ago and it was great to see that nothing has changed. Service is hands down the most friendly and attentive you will receive on the Eastside. My coffee cup never reached half -full or cooled down. Breakfast portions are hearty and generous and arrived piping hot literally fresh off the grill, which was impressive with with a full house of customers. My omelette was done perfectly, thick and fluffy packed with the right amount of filling. I prefer their homestyle breakfast home fries which are cubed rather than the more common greasy shredded hash browns at most other places. We've always loved their pancakes, similar to our other favorite breakfast place, Original Pancake House. Once the check arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see that prices have barely changed from pre-pandemic levels which was refreshing compared to the inexplicable price gouging I've observed lately all over the Eastside. Came for breakfast on Labor Day, not too long of a wait, about 15 min. I ordered their special the brisket Benedict and wow it was delicious! I love when places switch up a normal Benedict and they did a great job! I also ordered my son the Mickey pancake and I asked for his fruit as soon as possible, I thought I would've had to wait a couple minutes but our waitress brought it to us so fast. What has happened to this cozy cafe? They had specials that were wonderful everyday, friendly service, people that remembered you by name but most importantly... crave worthy food. We hadn't been out to a meal here in a long while, while we were there we saw a little girl of perhaps 6 or 7 years old wiping down tables with a very dirty cloth. Using the same cloth on all tables. Playing with the cloth as she walked then rubbing her face. I was shocked that in this pandemic world any responsible adult would not allow a child near such potential contamination. The layout is your typical cafe with a small space and standing room only. They are good at getting people in and out as the times I've been have been packed. The menu has enough variety for everyone- some comfort food to huevos rancheros- it's all tasty and quickly done. The staff is everywhere all at once so be patient as it's always crowded. The first thing to know for anyplace that serves food is everybody likes different things. I love breakfast potatoes-with ketchup. Love like i love my kids! The eggs were great, the biscuits and gravy great. Everything was good-they jammed it all together on a very small plate and covered everything with gravy. Everything. That's not how i want any breakfast ever. I've eaten here a number of times and always love the food. I'm not real happy about gravy on every item on my plate. Hadn't been in many years since I was not impressed with their service or food the last time I came. Since I was on a roll with revisiting places that had previously lost my business, figured I should stop here as well. I called ahead of time since it was a holiday weekend and wanted to make sure they had normal business hours. The gal that answered the phone was not very friendly and once she answered my question she hung up. It was a bit awkward and I decided to go in anyways. Upon arrival it took a few minutes for the staff to acknowledge I was there. I was the only person at that point in time and they were focused on setting up for the day. Got my table and I had a really hard time making a decision. Not because the selection was so great, but because I was hesitant to get items I normally would be all over ordering. Should have gone with my gut! Ended up ordering the eggs Benedict and I instantly regretted it. The hollandaise almost had a nacho cheesy texture to it. It was strange and there was so much of it on the dish that there wasn't a way to escape it. The ham was super rubbery, the eggs were a bit off, the potatoes were ok. The whole dish lacked flavor and I had to add quite a bit of salt and Tabasco. Not the best place for breakfast in Issaquah. It does have a pretty strong flow of regular customers, but I have noticed they don't tend to get food. Their coffee must be good? This used to be our go to place in Issaquah....unfortunately, it will not be any longer. They have new owners and they needed to sharpen their restaurant skills before taking this over. You walk in and they have a "wait list" that you complete. The staff asks you if you filled out the info, even though they were an arm's length away and just watched you. We completed it with a crayon as that was the only writing utensil provided. We were seated within 5 mins, which was great. However the table had a greasy grime on it. A gentleman came over to give us water, proceeded to wipe has mouth with his shirt. No hi/good morning....nothing. Asked us if we wanted anything else. We let him know that the waitress already was getting our coffee. He walked away and proceeded to itch/scratch his head and arms, watching everyone. We paid the bill for coffee and left. They need to take a refresher course on all things hospitality and cleaning requirements 101. We do not eat out often, but when we do, we do not need the possibility of getting sick. The food always tastes great, portions are great for the prices, and the staff are always friendly! Hubby decided it was errands day in Issaquah so needed to start day right with breakfast. We had been here before years ago and recalled it was decent. The whole visit started poorly. We were seated after 15minute wait (not bad). Bus boy brought waters, still no problem. Problem, the hostess who sat us only gave us the Egg and Us specials menu and not full menu. No one asked us for drink orders whereas others around us got drinks prior to ordering food. When our server got to us, there was no greeting just question "do you know what you want?" That should have been the clue to leave but was hungry so ordered. I got lemon ricotta pancakes and hubby got Swedish pancakes special add hashbrowns and asked for coffee in togo cup. Food was ok, nothing special. Hubby didn't get coffee. No one checked on us once. We only saw our server again when it was time for the check and she realized she never brought my husband's coffee. Terrible service. Will NOT be back. I love supporting local but refuse to be treated like crap. read more

Really good American diner food! Love it.. so many items on the menu, I can never decide! They have great weekday lunch specials like Meatloaf, and a different homemade soup every day. They serve breakfast all day long--WOO HOO! Hubs and I went today, and I could hardly decide between an egg scramble, Joe's Special, a Monte Cristo sammie, a Meatloaf sammie, or Eggs Bennie. I finally decided upon the "Montana" Egg Scramble (the Small. which was plenty huge!!)... so good. Hubs had biscuits and gravy, also so good. Not a huge place, but very cute. One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time!! Fast service, good price, large portion...solid place for a family meal. I've lived in Issaquah area for 10 years and visited 12th Ave Café quite a few times. Finally I decided to take some time to write a review on it. 12th Ave Café definitely is a popular place. Every weekend at lunch time the place is packed with local people, and it was really hard to find a seat. For a local restaurant that has been there for more than 20 yrs, people just love it. The restaurant is in 50s retro dinner style and same as the food. They have variety choices of salad and soup, omelet, burger, sandwich, pasta...nothing fancy but all in very big portion and tastes delicious. The typical hearty American family lunch/dinner we all craving for once in a while. Here are a few my favorite dishes. Salad and soup, with fresh vegetable and today's soup. For the coup, the best choice is clam chowder, which is rich, creamy with plenty fresh clams. Quiche of the day. For French pastry, the dish is very large sized with big slice of thick quiche and spuds. They do a quite decent quiche, which has crunchy skin and creamy fillings. One of my favorite choice. If you're in the mood for some deep fried southern food, I'd suggest their chicken fried steak. It's a very rich dish with chicken fry, two eggs and spuds. That's lots of calories and you probably need to run 5K to burn them out. But when you crave for something greasy, this is definitely your choice. The quality of the food could be flaky sometimes, but generally it's pretty consistent...at least for the weekend brunch. Same for the service. For our visits there, about 5-6 times, the waitress/waiter were always pretty attentive and friendly. The price is pretty good. Most dishes are around $10 or below.
