This is an old house converted into a quaint little restaurant. The staff was pleasant and courteous . I ordered fish tacos and house made chips, my husband ordered a Cuban sandwich and fries. So nice, I had to do it twice! I was in Abingdon for a work trip this week for only 2 days. Thanks to the popular Yelp reviews for this place, my colleague and I landed here for dinner around 7 pm on Wednesday. This was our first time in. I ordered Justa Burger (comes with a side) and we split a peach cobbler for desert. I believe my colleague had the trout (can't remember the details). Although I was considerably hungry anyway, the experience far exceeded my expectations. Immediately as you walk in, you're greeted with the stories of patrons' past via the signed dinner plates adorning the walls. There was no wait whatsoever, in fact I only noticed a few other parties eating there at the time. It really has the local, small town feel if that's what you're looking for. We wanted some outdoor patio seating, but the closest thing they have an indoor space that, to a small extent, feels like a screened in porch when the windows are open. The trout was SO fresh. My burger was nothing extraordinary, but it was good, had all the toppings and fixings on the side so you could add what you want onto the actual sandwich. It was a nice serving that I was unable to finish despite my severe hunger after traveling 6 hours across time zones that day. I boxed up the rest and nibbled on later that day. The cobbler was everything I should not be eating. It doesn't have the typical hard crust you may be used to, it comes out almost like a bread pudding and is served with ice cream. Unless you still have a big void to fill in your stomach after you meal, one order of cobbler is good for 2 people. Last, but certainly not least, we had the pleasure of being served by Elizabeth who was just delightful. We called in another order ahead of catching our flights and heading out of town. I got the caesar salad with blackened chicken and some of that peach cobbler. There was a warning the blackened chicken may be spicy..it is not spicy. If I'm ever back in Abingdon, 128 Pecan will be one of my initial stops. read more

This place is AMAZING! I work one week a month in Lebanon,Va. the hotel I usually stay in was closed due to lack of staffing. (Welcome to 2021). I ended up staying in Abington and looked for a restaurant close to the hotel that wasn't a chain. This one popped up and i am so happy that it did! I was greeted promptly and eagerly by a young man who quickly showed me my table. Within seconds I was greeted by Amy, a super friendly gal who quickly brought my drink and took my order. I ordered the fried oyster tacos and they were amazing , with Parmesan fries. Sooooo good. This place is amazing. The service was superior! Everyone that enters the door is treated like a friend. Oh my gosh! So God I ate here for dinner last night and lunch today. Both were excellent! My good friend invited me to Abingdon VA for a girlfriend getaway and took me to her favorite place for a celebratory birthday dinner. The cracker encrusted trout was a amazing last night...so Fresh and moist and flavorful, without the crust overpowering the fish. And the tomato bisque was the best I've had. Today's lunch was even better. We shared the black bean cake salad and the oyster tacos and the fried green tomato pimento cheese sandwich. I can't remember anything tasting that good and could not choose which was best. Then the chef owner surprised us with a slice of yummy home made coconut cream pie and delicious coffee. So this was our second option after finding out The Tavern needed reservations. After waiting to be seated, we were seated in a room with three other tables. On a date night without our little one, we looked forward to a quiet evening. Sadly, this wasn't to be since the table behind us had a rather loud talking young woman. She decided that it was appropriate conversation to talk about the most horrific patient she's ever intubated in the ER. I almost lost my dinner. Speaking of dinner, we were rather underwhelmed. The parmesan fries were pretty good. The salads were ok but served on cheap glass plates with captain's wafers. !! My ribeye was really good but the mashed potatoes were dry. Hubby was fine with his shrimp and grits. The portion just seemed a little small. (Weird to note, my steak was served with a paper placemat under it with Chinese zodiac. ??) We won't hurry back. Upon walking in, it seemed like it was a very small place, but it opened up a lot more than I expected and they have several branched off dining rooms. The food was, frankly, incredible. With the Parmesan fries as an appetizer, we all left very satisfied. I highly, highly recommend the low country pasta. It was not only a big bowl, but simply so delicious. They offered a good selection, but was small enough to let you know that they're working hard on each dish and stick to their specialty. read more

Wonderful dinner! Jack and Jill cocktail and rum punch were both delicious and well made drinks. My husband enjoyed their draft beers. Started with oyster tacos. They were perfect, with an excellent ginger sauce. The chili crusted salmon with cheese grits was a wonderful entree and the Low country shrimp was delicious. Brown butter cake with ice cream finished the evening, a dessert to return to enjoy. Our server Trey made the evening flow smoothly and gave wonderful guidance on the menu items. Stopped here while driving through the state. Happened to be a very busy festival day which made me wish we could stay and check it out. Nice little town. This restaurant was the same. Very interesting and quaint. I had the fried green tomato with pimento cheese sandwich because "when in Rome". Or in this case Abingdon. It was an interesting combo. The pimento cheese tasted homemade. I wish there had been more green tomatoes as their flavor was masked by the pimento cheese. It was good but wished it was better. That said no one complained or didn't finish their food. I'd return and plan to spend a day checking out the town. read more

I can't say enough about our complete positive experience here. Noah, our waiter, gave impeccable service with a genuine smile. I am very particular about restaurants when I travel because I want to experience the best the local are has to offer. The blending together of flavors in each bite was an explosion of deliciousness. The roasted cauliflower and jalapeño hush puppies were a favorite at our table. We had a variety of dishes and all shared. We were just stopping in Abingdon for the night, took a gander at Yelp to find dinner, and landed here. The food is really good, as is the service. The ambiance is amazing. Parking is a bit of a bear. The adjacent shops all have signs up that they will tow anyone not shopping in their particular store. We eventually found some parking on the side of the building with the restaurant, down a one lane drive. Yelp says this is casual. This isn't 't-shirt and jeans' casual, but they let me in anyway and made me feel right at home. read more

Excellent experience dining at the 128 Pecan restaurant in Abingdon, Va. My wife and I decided to try this downtown restaurant after browsing their menu. This restaurant is a walk away from Main Street with ample parking located behind the building. We were seated quickly and our waiter, Trey, promptly introduced himself and took our drink order. The menu lists a variety of dishes and sandwiches ranging from Fried Calamari, cuban sandwiches to Pasta Bolognaise. All our meals were served piping hot and they tasted great. A special shout out to our waiter Trey, who made our dining experience a positive one. Yelp FTW. Stopped by for lunch on a busy weekend [VA Highland Festival). Told us 30 mins but we waited 15. Ate in the room behind the bar...plenty of light but less character than other areas. We got the crab cake sandwich and an oyster platter (available typically only for dinner but the waiter said it was no problem). Everything was great. Fries that came with oysters with crisp and well salted. The coleslaw was slightly sweet the way we like it. Tartar sauce and cocktail sauce homemade and very tasty. Oysters were perfect. read more

The staff is friendly and charming like Abingdon itself. We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way to a wedding. We both had the same thing: a frosted-glass pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, a piping hot cup of the mushroom-rosemary soup, and the catfish po' boy (with ample pickles, as served). It may sound like a very simple meal, and it was, but everything was just perfect. Coming from Colorado, I'd expect we don't really know what a good po' boy tastes like, but I've had quite a few on my travels, and let me just say this one is divine. The fish, itself, was ... perfect. So, we'd recommend this better than the beaten-path choice of places to dine with our highest recommendations.
