I moved to California in late 2011 and was looking for a place on the fly. I found an affordable room on craigslist in the 1080 Lofts building in a unit with three other roommates and moved in shortly after. My girlfriend moved to California six months later and I moved out so we could get a place of our own.
The year I spent at my new place, I couldn't stop thinking about how perfect the 1080 Lofts were. I've had roughly ten landlords/building managers in my life and Bob is on a whole different level of greatness. For those of you reading this who have had miserable landlords, we can both relate and agree on how important that is when looking for a new place. Bob and I kept in touch during my time away until the perfect unit opened up. My girlfriend and I moved back into the 1080 Lofts on April 2013 and have no plans of leaving any time soon.
As a current resident, I have no complaints - the building is full of good people. Server/bartender, musician, teacher, animator, photographer, art director, designer, Comcast manager, veterinarian, and stilt dancer to name a few of the personalities that live here. We have a Facebook group where we post things we are getting rid of, news, events, etc. If the weathers nice, we'll have a random BBQ that most of the residents take part in.
If you have loud dogs that you leave home alone all day, regularly plan on throwing parties till 6am, or have dreams of using a loft space to grow.. this is not the right place for you (look into 1919 Market St. in West Oakland).
Wrapping things up, 1080 Lofts is a nice place to live. read more
