It's funny how swiftly good food can transform a new restaurant into a near-staple. After moving into MetroWest, I'd been looking for an inexpensive, delicious Chinese Take Out place. China Lee fits the bill to the letter. I've tried various items from across the expansive (and familiar) menu, and never been disappointed. Not greasy, made swiftly, and cheap ($15 feeds two). As an added bonus, the staff are polite. I suppose that's the only oddity about my new obsession- I was ok with having a bad experience ordering, of the food was up to snuff. I slather all kind of sauce on most things I eat and I love duck sauce...but, this rice doesn't need anything. For real, order it. Just do it. I've ordered delivery from China Lee a few times and haven't had a bad experience. They are a bit snippy on the phone and "hold" is just the phone being put down while the answerer does something else. It's understandable though, as I imagine they're getting a ton of calls around dinner time. I hear they are usually busy inside too. The person delivering my food has always been polite and personable. The Krab Rangoons are very good. They are the triangle ones (my favorite) and nice and stuffed. General Tsaos chicken is my go-to. China Lee's is top notch. I have also had an egg roll. I don't love egg rolls-if I did, I would eat these all the time. They're perfectly crisped and great ingredients. Who does not like Chinese Take Out? I am talking about the fried, greasy, Americanized version that dots every neighborhood and community. The little place that is tucked away with a gazillion items on the menu that makes your head spin. Or the trifold take out menu tucked under your door. Who is your favorite? I speak of my personal experience. As far back as I can remember, I have always sought out my go to little Chinese take out place. No matter which corner of the world I resided at the time there was always one or more of these little joints that indulge my palate from time to time. Somehow, I have always found a sense of satisfaction after eating from a place like this. I guess that is the definition of one's comfort food. China Lee is tucked along Kirkman Rd in the Super Walmart Plaza. It cannot be seen from Kirkman Rd, you would have to enter the plaza, then look at the line of buildings facing Kirkman Rd as it is on the back side facing the Walmart parking lot. There is a big overhead sign. The setting is a modest few tables and chairs more for waiting, but you can eat there. Order from the paper, overhead, or menu board. The menu board display has specials of the day. General Tsao - chunks of fried chicken in special sauce. I know there is a classic recipe handed down from generations to the most revered of Chinese chefs. Not all versions of that recipe tickle my fancy. Some are either too spicy hot, too salty, too sweet, the appearance of bell peppers makes me cringe, the chicken is often soggy, the sauce is too thick, the sauce is too runny, I can go on and on..... This China Lee's version is my absolute favorite. Yes I endorse it, there! Having eaten this dish for several times over a long period of time I am convinced that this is not a by fluke recipe or technique. Every time that I have eaten this dish here it was an absolute replica of the first time. Consistency at it's very best. The chicken is mouth size bites, crispy freshness, fried to perfection. The sauce is a delicate balance of sweet and tangy with the back hint of heat. Right before you swallow that mouthful, the heat kicks in. The accompanying pork fried rice is fresh, not too crispy, not too soft, nice coating of sauce with ample saltiness. Is there a complete absence of MSG? I am not so sure. If there is, then it is a very minute amount for I can still feel my tongue after eating. This flavor and texture is to my likeness. Maybe the total freshness of food at this place has to do with how busy it is. In all the time I have passed or stopped in, there has always been a crowd. At first, I thought how disorganized. Imagine ordering a pick up and then having to wait for it? Then I went in, I was wrong. People are actually walking in, paying and leaving. There is hardly any wait, even when it is super busy. These guys turn and burn, they crank dishes out before you finish ordering. There is no dilly dally in here. Get in, know what you want order, pay, step aside, pick up food and walk out. Don't stand around there is a line behind you and everyone is clambering for the same great food. Watch out you could get run over, but the General Tsao is worth it. Your typical Chinese take-out place, Express China Lee restaurant really lives up to its name!! They are super quick with their food orders. You walk in, order, and hang out for 10 minutes. POP! There you go. Done. There are about 4-5 booth style tables here if you want to sit and eat but most people have pre-ordered for take out or have walked-in. My sister usually orders the Fried Chicken Wing Special. It comes with 5-6 pieces of Fried Chicken Wings and a large portion of Fried Rice. The chicken wings are mighty good. Not your classic barbeque wings but still REALLY good! Every time I've tried it, the chicken has always been juicy, never dry. Along with the fried rice, you've got yourself a hearty meal. I'd be surprised if I could finish off one of these. My sister usually saves the other half for dinner. My mom always orders the cooked vegetables. You can't really go wrong with cooked veggies so I will leave it at that. The veggies come cooked with a sauce for flavor. Never fear! The veggies are not swimming in a sea of Chinese sauce. They add just the right amount of sauce. Lastly, I always order a side of egg rolls because how do you eat Chinese food and NOT order an egg roll? Again, you can't go wrong with an egg roll and the ones at China Lee are very good. I've had a few egg rolls at other Chinese joints that taste too much like pork... and not in a good way. It is tucked away on the opposing side of the main strip mall facing Kirkman Rd. So you won't see it unless you drive to the back. It has a humble and modest appearance, reminiscent of a small hole-in-the-wall type of place. Don't let their looks fool you, since they have perhaps the best quick chinese food in the city. Cheap, fast, and good. What more could you ask for, honestly? Their lunch special is the bomb, at only $5.40 for a mammoth lunch platter, that I'm never able to finish in one try, always have it bagged to reheat later. This really is New York style Chinese take-out at its best. Who would've thought you could still eat lunch for under $6 (fyi no drink included). The place is small and the kitchen is even smaller, yet they always have at least three cooks frying, chopping, and sauteeing away in the back. The food, as others have said, is an enviable model for consistency and quality, since their plates look identical, and the portions exact, to the same dishes I've ordered in the past on several occasions. This place is one of the nastier Chinese spots. It's really dirty on the inside, the food is not usually hot and if it is it tastes old and over cooked. I work near there and been there many times...today I went and ordered the sweet n sour chicken combo as I always do. I returned home to discover no sweet n sour sauce was not in the container. I called to tell them and they asked me to come back I said I couldn't and that next time would buy me a drink. I said oh really a drink for my meal I can't eat now? I called them numerous times and each time I tried to cancel they assured me that they were already on their way. The man on the phone was extremely rude and told us that he never received our order. We offered to give him the order conformation number to make sure our order gets canceled so we aren't charged. He immediately hung up with no answer. We called back explaining that we understood the situation but we don't want our card charged since online it said that we already ordered. He began yelling that we have to call our bank and cancel the order then and that he can't do anything for us. Now, I have worked in many restaurants and the bank cannot cancel the order, the restaurant has to cancel the order through their system so we don't get charged.
