Been a year since my last update so thought I'd update my review!…read more They're open daily from 11am-7pm Love that they are expanding and the business next to them is going to turn into a place for dine in experience! How exciting! Parking can be difficult since it is pretty small and this spot is always busy regardless of the time and day! NOTE: You can only enter thru the back door by the parking lot because the front door is usually locked. Inside has such much variety of sushi, Japanese merchandise and groceries, as well as a fish market located all the way in the back. The fridges are packed with lots of variety of sushi and bowls. Love how you can choose any fish from the glass window and the staff will ask whether you want it sliced or not. The line is always long so be prepared to wait but it moves quite fast. Pricing is so reasonable and most of the sushi are $9+. Such a steal! Staff was friendly and welcoming. I used my SGV Food Passport and redeemed a free salmon avocado roll (or California Roll). What a deal! It came with 12 mini rolls packed with salmon and avocado. The salmon was so fresh and delicious! This is one of my favorite rolls there so glad I got it free! I also got the Unagi Sushi. It consisted of 12 mini eel rolls. It was stuffed with eel and packed with flavor. It tasted so yummy and fresh. Definitely one of my favorites! Last but not least, got the Nigiri! It consisted of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. This was my absolute favorite! It was so buttery and fresh. It literally melted in my mouth but how soft it was. The portion of fish was so generous and so good! Absolute must get! Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and my food so I'll definitely recommend and return.

I've been coming to Yama Seafood for over 25 years, going all the way back to my high school days…read moresince it was nearby. My mom and late dad knew the previous owner, Yamada-san, before I was born. I've introduced many of my friends to Yama Seafood over the years, and my friends and I would often come here after school to get sushi. Walking in here still brings back a lot of memories--especially from the days when you could enter directly from the street. In my opinion, Yama Seafood has some of the freshest fish and best selections in the area. There have been many times when I've purchased regular bluefin here and had friends think it was actually bluefin chu-toro because the quality was that good. My usual fish purchases are bluefin chu-toro, regular bluefin, salmon, Hokkaido scallops, and yellowtail. I also almost always grab a pack of California rolls, tamagoyaki, and ikura (salmon roe) to go with the fish. For the quality and selection of the fish, I would easily give Yama Seafood 5 stars. However, I'm not nearly as fond of the new ownership and management. I really preferred the feeling and customer service of the old Yama Seafood. Someone else in the reviews mentioned feeling the same way, and I completely understand where they're coming from. The old way was more personal. Yes, sometimes orders took a while because Yama-san himself was cutting and preparing the orders, but you knew who you were dealing with. If I had a question, I could ask Yama directly. If he wasn't available, I could ask the store manager, and they could get an answer from Yama. There was a direct connection between the customer and the person making the decisions. Now, unfortunately, it feels like Yama Seafood is being run like a corporation--100000%. The business expanded very quickly after the purchase, and it has become much more difficult to communicate with the actual decision-maker or owner. I was given the email addresses of the "boss" by the manager, and I've sent multiple emails but have never received a response. That's probably my biggest disappointment with the new management. Regardless of how a company is structured or who owns it, I think basic customer communication is important. When a longtime customer takes the time to reach out with a question or concern, especially after being directed to contact the person in charge, a simple response would go a long way. Maybe the new ownership simply has a different philosophy about customer service, or perhaps the business structure has changed significantly. Whatever the reason, the personal feeling that Yama Seafood used to have is unfortunately missing. That said, the fish quality and selection are still excellent, and that's the main reason I'm giving Yama Seafood 4 stars. I've been coming here for more than 25 years, and I genuinely want to see the business continue to do well. If the new management could improve its customer service--especially something as simple as responding to emails from longtime customers--I would have no hesitation giving this place 5 stars. The product is already there. It's the customer service and communication that need some work. And honestly, I don't care if the owners respond to this review just to "show face" on Yelp. I'm not looking for a public response or an apology. Just reply to the emails from your customers. Simple as that.

I have been to this Asian market a few times and am actually surprised that the price of produce is really cheap. But you do have to be aware that the fruits may not last as long as maybe going to another market like Smart & Final or Stater Bro's. Also there have been times when I have seen produce starting to mold/ have spots. During cherry season, I was surprised to find that this market sold rainier cherries (I actually love these more than the red ones) for $1.98 per pound where as other places are selling them for anywhere from $5 to $7 per pound. It is very busy when some of their produce like that is very cheap (because you know you just aren't the only one who thinks that is a good deal). The rest of the market itself has a similar layout as what you would expect at other Asian markets. And on our past visits, the market has been clean and did not have that familiar odor that may be associated with Asian markets. One thing I thought was interesting though about this market is that you need to have a minimum purchase of at least $5 for credit card transactions. I have only seen a small number of markets that have a minimum for credit card transactions and just wanted to bring that up for those that don't normally carry cash but wish to grocery shop here.

What really pissed me off today was the cashier at station 6 (older Asian lady with her hair in a bun and with glasses). We were waiting for bags and she started telling us to put the items in our cart. So, we just assumed she was out of bags and we started putting the items into the cart. When it came time to pay, that's when this db decided to hand over bags and shot a bag at me while I was picking up items in the cart. Of course I ask her why the fuck she threw the fucking bag at me like that. Did she understand? No idea but she did stare back at me.

I had bought an electric casserole pot from the LA location, but ended up not needing it. I tried returning it here a few days later, but the item scanned came up with the wrong price.
