The self checkout machines are a joke and so are the people that are supposed to be supervising that area. Today I went shopping and the person in front of me needed help and none of the people that were supervising that area -- which were two chicks -- came to help him. I, a customer, had to help him check out because they were just standing there. Why be there if you're not going to help? Aside, the guy that I had just helped apparently took out cash and forgot it in the machine. The chick had the audacity to tell me, you can give that to me... umm no! Superior quality Flan is as good,if not better than Homemade...I an impressed by the Flan and also the Hot food you can purchase from them is delicious too...I've tried the refried beans,red salsa and the Chillie rellanos,tho a bit pricy are really tasty,you just have to make sure their not oily((sometimes their not drained well.)) The fire roasted whole chickens are delicious,but at $8.99 apiece,I rather go to Sam's club,the rotisserie whole chicken for 1 are only $4.98...basically you can get two for the price of Superior 's 1...also,I love the Superior brand raw chicken the .99 cent a pound is always good in 2024! typically i go for sorted groceries but today wanted to pick up lunch. originally wanted pupusas, but no one behind the counter seemed to know what they were made of or even the packaged one didnt tell you what they were of. no helpful service. ended up getting tamales. beef and chicken. one of the beef had a HUGE chunk of fat, gross and one of the chicken was burnt. the masa was too soft and mushy. bought some cucumbers that were wilted. just not edible. couldnt finish my lunch. read more

The cashier at self checkout has no type of customer service skills I went there today JUNE 27. Around 1pm why do they apply at a grocery store knowing they have to work with people. If they have the face like they hate the place The girl at self checkout had an attitude I think she was new she has a red butterfly tattoo by her ear/neck I couldn't get her name she didn't have a name tag. What was so great about my visit today was the 5 dollar deli specials and that fresh bakery smell ! The market is clean, has a good variety of fruits and vegetables and other goods. I mainly just come for the hot bar, especially the chile rellenos, better than some restaurants. It's perfectly battered, the right consistency of cheese to pepper. Combos available w/ rice and beans and warm corn tortilla. Or to-go packs. Chips and salsas are good too. Perfect for that "nacho" crunch. Ladies seem to be friendly and quick when helping you. Thankful it wasn't full but I guess that's because it's Monday lol I got 1 Chile relleno and small cup of carne en chile verde and 11 tamale. Just to try. CHILE RELLENO was ok. Super greasy and not much cheese inside. I only took 1 bite. TAMALE was super soft and warm. Had plenty of meat inside but not much flavor. Tamale was $1.38. Not bad. CARNE EN CHILE VERDE was ok. This place has some rude people working here this was my first time here wanting to use the dmv kiosk not even buy groceries doors were wide open when an employee approached me and said we are closed I explained I was just using the dmv kiosk and still was very rude and told me to leave. And then let some other woman go in and use the dmv kiosk. A couple of weeks ago, I had gone to a different location of Superior Grocers (in Los Angeles) and got some excellent nectarines at a great price. Now, I have been told that "the season" is over, so prices have gone up. Shucks! Anyway, it's cool to see piñatas for sale. We usually don't see these in a grocery store in Hawaii - maybe it's more likely to find them at Party City. The tortillas and other Mexican goods are plentiful here. I got some apple soda (Sidral Mundet) and chicharones... yum! So, I will be back - hopefully when the fruits are "in season" again... read more

I really like this superior. I got the tamales and some cold chicken wings and it was bomb. Can't go wrong with the tamales though. 2.50 a pop and four different flavors (corn, chicken, pork, cheese). I'll definitely be back just for those. read more

I'm fairly surprised this grocery store is tending to the demographics around the area: Hispanic and Asian. I have yet to roam into a market and see that it has both Asian and Hispanic types of foods. This market is really clean and organized, it makes it very easy to locate what you are looking for. I even tried to look for a horchata drink in a milk carton but couldn't find one, until I came here! I love eating my cereal! And I was fortunate that they had huge boxes of cereal on sale, 2 for $6! This place just opened near my job! Wanted to check this place out after work to get some groceries. Located in the new plaza on valley and Santa Anita, around the area. New parking structure, has pet smart, Ross, Starbucks, jack in the box. Plenty of parking space. Everything inside is new and has fresh produce. I ended getting packs of meat which was pretty cheap. A very busy, but organized grand opening! This newly opened store is right next to the soon-to-be Ross and is in the same shopping center as Starbucks and Petco. Consistent with other Superior markets: Bakery, flowers, ice, fish, to-go options, and freshly made tortilla! (+) The "door busters" included prizes (TV, refrigerator, a Ram 1500 truck) and lots of grocery items cheaper than usual. They were mostly fully stocked (even at 8 PM) so it wasn't disappointing since they were prepared for the crowd. They also had a makeshift / convenient register cart which made for faster checkout (Which subsequently annoyed customers who waited much longer-- Darwinism concept full blown in real life!) (-) If you're looking to purchase a few items, it may not be a good idea during the first few days of the grand opening since they don't have express lanes. (-) The crowd that it attracts is similar to Black Friday-- too many high expectations like wanting fully wrapped boxes of Nongshim noodles, chicken that can be chopped up further when it was wrapped up, and a lady telling me I'm in the wrong line although she unfortunately didn't find the shorter line and waited longer. Fresh meat and they have their own little bakery where they sell warm bread and a variety of cakes. Their cakes looks fresh but it is super sweet I kinda wish they would not make it too sweet! Sometimes they have good produce deals every couple weeks. They also sell hot ready to eat foods, like fried chicken and mac n cheese and more mexican favorites. Back in my days in college, I built a mindset that Superior was a run-down dirty supermarket chain with locations in the inner cities. So, being a bit shallow, I was hesitant about visiting this location in El Monte. But I'm glad my mom dragged me to coming with her for their $6.99/lb shrimp sale. This Superior location is located in a recently renovated plaza on Santa Anita and Valley (main entrance is on Valley). The plaza is about to open a Chipotle, and there's several other fast food joints around. This Superior location reminded me of a Hispanic Ralph's. The store was clean, organized and looked practically new (it's been open for less than a year). What's great is the prices are similar to other Superior stores and you would have a hard time finding more competitive prices. The store also has a ton of Hispanic specialty items (e.g. pork rinds, Latin bakery, and Jarritos in the front counters). I had a good shopping experience here and you can't find another supermarket with prices as low as Superior. With a contemporary and clean feel and competitive prices, I will definitely come back to shop again. read more

This is the newest market in El Monte, less than a year ago was a Edward Theater actually. They open this market quite fast and was one of the first store to open in this new plaza together with Petco. Everything here is new included the shopping cart. The stuff they sell is kinda like food 4 less and nortgate combine. They has some good deal here, probably due to opening promotion. There was pretty of checkout line even at late night hours, which is good. Hope they keep it that way. I hate when most market only keep 1 or 2 cashier at night. read more

Brand new Superior that opened a few months ago. 100 times cleaner then the other Superior in El Monte. Deals are usually pretty good if you read circulars. I need to try the marinated carne and chicken here. My go to spot for meat was the other location. Hopefully it is the same. Only complaint is getting in and out of this plaza sucks. read more
