Yesterday late afternoon (6.21) I went there to get a things from the produce department. I had the clerk if they had fresh cilantro in back. He stated he would have to ask if he could bring it out as it had been filled not that long ago. I stated that I was buying quite a bit and let him know that the further I went down in the pile it was not fresh. He stated that he would have to ask first. After he found who he was looking for to ask he then returned stated that they didn't have any. I guess he forgot that a few minutes earlier he had mentioned that before he bring it out he would have to ask permission and get the Ok. What is this? What about customer service? On Monday Morning January 6th I went to buy a Rosca de Reyes to celebrate at Superior in El Monte. Normally there is a baby Jesus in the bread for the person that finds it. With the size I bought it was suppose to have 4 baby Jesus. Our tradition is no one is to eat the bread until the first baby Jesus is found. So we kept cutting and cutting and cutting till the we had no more bread. Since one had eaten the bread portions we tore the bread apart. Well there was not one baby Jesus. NOT ONE!!! On the box it said it contained 4 baby Jesus. Now everyone is freaked out. Thank you Superior for not putting in Baby Jesus or at least giving me some to add. If any bad luck happens. I came here for a cake at the bakery section on 12/15 around 7pm. The person worked at the cashier was so impolite and no customer service at all. 4 French breads for $0.88 when they are on sale and I often see people got a few bags of them. A lot of different taco 'skins' to choose from, even the organic wheat or flour ones. Onions could be very cheap here and so are carrots. Sometimes the fruits on sales are good but sometimes not the best quality. You can buy cheap meat here but my husband can taste the difference between the cheap ones and the decent ones. Sometimes it get quite crowded here. read more

This store has the most stupid cashiers. I always carry a cooler to shop in summer. Multiple cashier asked about my cooler when I cashed out given the fact that they don't sell cooler. I'm really upset with the money order department. I came in at 6:15 pm. . To refund 2 money order checks that my boyfriend and I did not end up using. There was no one at the desk and I asked the cashier closest to the desk if it was still open. All she said was was that to make payments it was closed and that their should be someone working there. I told her there's no one at the desk, and the cashier just ignored me. How more rude can she get? Well apparently I spoke to soon. I then asked another employee if someone could please help me at the desk. Her response was the same "there should be someone working there, just stand at the desk and they'll see u on the camera". So I went to the desk and waited there for almost 10mins until a girl finally came out of the room. She did not greet me or apologize for the wait. I then just asked if they could please refund the 2 money order checks that I did not end up using. Her name was Susanna and she didn't say a word to me, she just took the 2 checks and went back in the room. 2 other customers then came to stand in line behind me, but ended up leaving because of how long it was taking. I waited for almost 30 mins! Until the girl finally came out of the room. Susanna gave me no eye contact what so ever and never let me know what was going on or why it was taking so long. She tried saying that the checks were used when they never were! Then talked about the customers who left saying that people are impatient and that it was their loss. Are you freaking kidding me? This girl is a joke! She then finally attempted to refund my money back but did it wrong! I only was able to get back 1 money order because the dumb ass didn't know what the hell she was doing. She wrote void on the money order which she was not supposed to do, and because of her mistake she told me that I wouldn't get the money back today, and that I would have to come back tomorrow morning. While this place does have low prices their customer service needs a major overhaul! Butchers will lie and tell you that the sale on ground beef is on pre-packaged meat not from the butcher counter, then when you show them the ad they claim their machine is broken. All the while someone else walks up asks for something to be ground and it works just fine. Store opens at seven but is not properly staffed so nothing is ready or even stocked and there is only 1 cashier open until they finish the restocking. I asked produce guy if they had any bananas in the back that weren't ripe or overripe like what he had on display. He tells me you don't want what's here that's your problem. I was standing at the deli for ten minutes and no one came to help, finally someone came to help us, Cathy. When we were checking out the manger came up to her and asked"why she was there" mind you this is the manager and I can here everything being said. I was offended! I snapped back and told the manager there was no one helping me that's why she is here. Manager told Cathy this is your last customer! I don't know the managers name but she was blonde and rude. Negligence! During Covid 19 they provide No hand wipes or sterilizing spray to sterilize your shopping cart as you enter. And No employee is doing any shopping cart cleaning either. So if you have to shop there, be sure to bring your own cleaning tools and wear mask and gloves. Now, the cash register did have a sterilizing pump, however, it was watered down, I guess, so they could save money. Speaking of money, they are way over priced; up to three times on some of the items I was looking for. I believe, because of the Corona virus and many people have lost their jobs, many families are using California EBT card (electronic food stamps) so they're taking advantage of that, ripping the customers off and the State. The return process was fine but since I threw away my receipt I was only able to do an exchange. I bought more chicken and was going to use it on the 3rd day it was bad. Superior in a lot of ways! Superior has a great selection. They've got all the usual food selections that most other supermarkets have such as bread, dairy, meat, produce, bakery, etc. However, what sets Superior Grocers apart from the rest of the market chains (e.g. Food 4 Less, etc) is their panaderia and ready-made food section that gives Northgate Market a run for its money. The panaderia (Mexican bakery) is also tough to beat. The Superior panaderia also gives the hard to beat small mom and pop panaderias a run for their money as well (although I still like to support them). I have also come here for cakes when I was feeling too lazy to travel to Downey or Glendale to get a cake from Porto's. Unfortunately, not everything here is perfect because I hate the parking here. Getting in and out of the shopping center sucks (which is not Superiors fault). I really wish they could expand their parking and add another way to go into the shopping center. It frustrates and angers me that these grocery stores in Latino neighborhoods are overpriced! They aim their marketing towards the people who live here and carry many Latino products, but charge way more than Trader Joe's, Vons or Albertsons.... lesson learned: It pays to drive one mile further to save money on ALL your groceries. Here on Sunday to pickup food that we ordered for a party. Fried chicken, potato wedges and carnitas... Good was awesome!!!!! However, I decided to buy some extra food from the take out area and took a number...... I waited like a good citizen then finally asked "what number are you on." Well, the lady told me that they were not using the numbers bc she did not know how to work the number sign. I then asked at what point was she going to tell all "us people" that had taken a number and was waiting to be called that they were not using the numbers? She simply apologized and told me to take it up with the manager. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! I then told the lady that all she had to do was call out the numbers to see who was next, collect the number, and then service the next customer.... "Old school"!. She didn't say a thing so I did! Before I knew it people were telling me that I should get a job there, since the employees did not know how to work the line. I will never be going back to this location. A very rude employee at the meat section ignored me when my number was called and proceeded to shout other numbers and mock me when I told her she skipped me and another customer. I was absolutely disgusted by her behavior. I informed the manager in hopes that he corrects this employee.
