akami tuna crudo
Kendall C.

amazing sushi spot!! such a great vibe inside with a lovely large bar and a cute semi-outdoor patio. I have been wow-ed every time I come. This time I came for Dine LA and I must say, it is a very good deal! For $25 you get 3 courses. I chose the akami tuna crudo, kinney roll, and matcha tiramisu. everything was DELICIOUS. Thick, fresh cuts of fish and the dessert was unique and lovely. We added on japanese pancakes since they recently started a breakfast menu and they were also very tasty. Service was fast and attentive. Overall a very solid spot!

I have come here a couple of times. They have a great happy hour to start. We came for dinner with a large group - the cocktails are always great. We also got some edamame to share, easy. I got the albacore carpaccio which was yummy and the fish quality was good. My friend got the chicken karaage as she doesn't eat fish and I do have to say this was delicious as well. Great experience.

Chu Toro Crudo

I've driven by this spot a few times and everytime it looks super vibey. We made a reservation for a weeknight and got sat right away. The dark, neon lights, and live music definitely gives this place a good aesthetic. For cocktails, I loved the Venus on The Half Pipe. The habanero had a good kick to it. For sushi rolls, our favorite was the Soul Roll and Tuna Love. I was disappointed in the Wagyu Truffle. The presentation was great but the roll itself lacked flavor and had too much cucumber. The Chu Toro Crudo is a great starter to share. Overall, cute spot but a little pricey. I'd recommend checking out the happy hour menu which is served at the bar only.

Owa Sushi
Amar D.

Owa's sushi dishes are extremely low quality with very low quality fish. This is directly inverse to their prices which are very high. High prices and high quality is OK. High prices and low quality is not OK. Owa does seem to draw a crowd. It may be a place to meet and greet, but no more.

Wow! When in Venice ... this could be our new favorite hangout, happy hour that is. Excellent prices on the fresh sushi, yellowtail, salmon, crispy rice with truffle, we had to order that twice... The service is outstanding 5+ My recommendation go early. We were fortunate to get there at 4:30 and then the place just went wild. We sat at the bar which is the best place in my opinion. You really get incredible service. We loved the ice cold, super cute, bottled water that came out to us. This place is happening with a capital H !!!! Keep it up "OWA" don't ever change

What a LOVELY EXPERIENCE. The way food and dining should be! I LOVE sushi and definitely have a standard for how it should taste, look, and feel. And Owa got it right. Not only is every inch of this place dripping in beauty and authenticity, but the whole ambiance is an experience. The service was great! And the kitchen staff were super cool. Definitely one of my most memorable experiences. Would def recommend.

My first time at OWA and I loved the vibe as I walked in. Happy Hour menu & cocktails were unique and delicious. I ate at the bar but as you walk in there is a cozy private patio and restaurant area. Forrest was awesome mixologist and recommended the best sushi dishes. Definitely coming back for live music Tuesday.

Highly recommended coffee place in Abbot Kinney! For all the drip coffee I had, its sweet blend stood out the most!

Sashimi Moriawase
Azile Y.

The fish quality is great- I got the Sashimi Moriawase and everything was top notch (especially the buttery uni!)... It was all sprinkled in gold flakes which was a bit much (and a little off-putting, even though I know it's safe to eat). My husband enjoyed his Tokusen Omakase even though it all came out on one plate instead of traditional omakase style, but maybe this is because we sat at the counter. The spicy garlic edamame was DELICIOUS. The kinoko miso soup was lovely. My husband's Magic Mushroom Manhattan really did taste like shiitake and was delicious. My Golden Hour cocktail was nice. Staff took awhile to notice us but once they did they were attentive. We went on a Wednesday night at 7 and the scene was lively and loud. It's a very flashy/trendy place but the food truly is good.

3.5/5. Very busy restaurant in Venice on a Saturday night. Took the old space of Wabi. I thought the food was okay but not great. It's pretty expensive for what it is but if you're looking for vibes/scene and okay food then this is your place. The sushi/sashimi were just okay and surprisingly the best thing we had was the branzino.

A time was had. I highly recommend coming in for lunch or happy hour and sitting at the bar to wind down! They have a generous HH menu that you can enjoy every day including the weekend. I came on a Saturday afternoon and had no problems getting a seat. They have a matcha and flower shop set up at their window Thurs-Sun from 8AM till around 2PM. I shopped from both and then sat down at the bar to order from the lunch menu. Based on recommendations from the bartender, I ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, akami nigiri and kinney maki. Everything I ordered tasted so good and fresh! It was a great deal and the vibes were vibing.

Nigiri
Eric T.

I had very high expectations for OWA, especially given its location on Abbot Kinney and the hype around it. The vibes and atmosphere are definitely on point- stylish, lively, and fun. The music could have been a little less loud- it was hard to talk. Service was attentive and the cocktails were excellent, no complaints there. But when it comes to the food, I was underwhelmed. The sushi was just average at best, which is disappointing given the price point. Maki rolls running $25-$35 each and nigiri at $8-$15 per piece feels way out of line, especially when the quality doesn't back it up. For that kind of pricing, I expected something truly exceptional, and it just wasn't. On top of that, the bathroom situation really detracted from the overall experience. For such a high-end spot, the communal setup felt more like a college bar, and unfortunately, it seemed like people were openly using the stalls for more than just bathroom breaks. Definitely not the vibe you'd expect from a place charging these kinds of prices. Overall: great atmosphere, great drinks, solid service--but the food and the overall experience don't live up to the price tag. Will come back for drinks, but not the sushi. There's much better sushi out there. PS: Very tacky for a "high-end" restaurant to pass on the credit card service charge to their customers- Big turn off- our entire party thought it was so tacky given our $1000+ bill.

There's a lot of really great open air in the front of the restaurant. There are a lot of beautifully crafted cocktails. Highly recommend lychee love me or 1992. Great happy hour specials. The crispy rice had a lot of beautiful contrast.

One of the best sushi spots I've had a in a while actually. We didn't really do any appetizers and went straight in for the fish. Started off with a couple of hand rolls, we did the crab hand roll and O toro hand roll. Crab hand roll wasn't as impressive, I've had better to be honest. I didn't let that experience ruin it for me because the toro hand roll was delicious. I think they add a piece of mint and it complimented the hand roll. Very crunchy nori wrapper and good rice to fish ratio. For our sushi we started with chu toro tuna, salmon belly, and halibut. Super fresh melt in your mouth quality. Halibut was interesting with the truffle, first time definitely won't be the last. We ended it with red snapper and black snapper. Absolutely amazing, I think the black snapper or the red snapper was slightly charred. It was so good. To say the least, this restaurant was worth it!

When I made reservations on the phone I asked about the latest reservation and confirmed 10 pm - however I asked if I could sit at the bar and they said not at that time since they closed at 11. When we arrived, there was a couple coming in at 10 and sat at bar...maybe just miscommunication but tha could have prevented us from consuming our food quick and skipping on alcohol since the table we got was not the best. Sushi felt very fresh and there's something about the way they make the rolls that feels different about other places (not sure if in a good way) Great staff and sushi chefs- they were super fast moving from one course to the next one.

While the fish quality here is great, you will get more bites that seem a lot more experimental with flavors and garnishes. I didn't like every single bite but I expected that. A lot more focus on creative cocktails and drink pairings instead of just sake or wine. This is a great place to try Japanese whiskey, they even have little lockers where regular patrons can store their expensive bottles they've bought for when they return, and you are welcome to grab an additional drink and chill in the space afterwards if you'd like. The chefs here were a lot more personable and fun with more of a bar vibe than a traditional omakase. Service was great, dedicated bartender was great, and though it's not the best sushi I've ever tasted, I would still bring someone back here for a unique experience. Brought my friend here for her bday and we left full and happy and a little drunk so I'd say it was a successful night!

Such a shame because otherwise it would have been a great experience. But I cannot excuse them for allowing these other guys to just behave so rudely, like Neanderthal, and not say a thing.

It's the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy your meal, and have a good conversation. The food was consistently good. Service was another highlight--easygoing, attentive in a subtle way, and never intrusive. If I had to point out one thing, it would be that a few dishes didn't quite have that "wow" factor.
