Fantastic, five-star food from Chef Ron Simon of OlenaHi! Run, don't walk, to this unassuming cafė, located in the Dole Cannery Food Court, just across the street from Regal Dole Cannery Movie Theatre! Yesterday, our family was super-hungry after the movies and thought we'd give the place a whirl. We arrived 20 minutes before closing time, but Rose, the chef's wife, graciously took our order anyway and treated us like long-lost family! Delectable Southeast Asian and Filipino-inflected food, skillfully crafted to highlight the fresh ingredients! Check the menu for daily specials; ongoing offerings include bowls with different protein options, pickled veggies, salad, and rice; banh mi, beverages, and various desserts. We sampled a wide assortment of food and unanimously agreed everything was delicious: banh mi with lemongrass tofu, banh mi with tender, flavorful brisket, crisp truffle-parmesan fries. I loved my lemongrass chicken bowl: extremely flavorful and bright marinade, moist chicken, topped with (I think!) crispy shallots, and served with a generous helping of Vietnamese-style do chua: pickled carrots and daikon, on a base of pristine mesclun greens with a side of wonderful tangy, creamy Asian-style dressing (had turmeric, sesame, rice vinegar, and maybe a touch of miso in it?) and aromatic, mouthwatering `olena rice: coconut rice seasoned with turmeric, cinnamon, lemongrass, and cloves. The plantation iced tea and Filipino lemonade were wonderful, but for something even more special, try the refreshing Royal Filipino Lemonade, made with caramelized diced fresh pineapple, calamansi, and butterfly pea: beautiful to behold and to sip! As a family that loves to cook, we're super-picky about our banana bread, but the banana-poi bites were splendid: not overly sweet and perfectly springy, with just the right hint of vanilla to complement the fresh banana and taro flavors. We took home a delicious vegetarian soba salad for later! Food is available to take out or eat in the A/C food court, and OlenaHi also does catering. We'll definitely return and enthusiastically recommend this business. I was walking around the food court here looking for something to eat when I seen a couple sitting down with what appeared to be a bento. As I looked around wondering where it was due to how pretty the arrangement of the bento and how tasty it looked, I had to ask the couple where they got it from. They pointed to olena's literally 5 feet away from me (so podagee). As I went in, I was greeted with such aloha that warms you to your core like a nice sunny day at the beach. I had to ask them about their bento, as soon as I heard crispy ahi rolls, pancit, and a brownie, I was sold. Folks, this is no regular bento. This is a bento made to order with love that will have you feeling like a champ after consumption. The pancit was made perfectly, not too dry, not too wet. The texture and taste of the freshly cooked pancit is a force to reckon with. The perfectly crispy spicy ahi rolls was so killer, I was sad to have noticed I ate it all and ran out. Could easily mop another 4 of these buggas. The brownie at the end, the cherry on top, did not disappoint. The texture was so smooth, not too overpowered with sweetness yet not too weak to notice. Didn't even need to pound water to put it down. The brownie, she go! I was even given a nicely chilled banana poi bread at no charge, which is literally winners. Love, love, love!!! This is such an amazing place to come here in the Dole Cannery where it's truly peaceful. 'Olena by Chef Ron Simon is amazing! It's high quality HEALTHY food is fine dining cuisine for take out with reasonable prices, too. Trust me since I've dined many fancy upscale places that leave you hungry and poor. It's starts with amazing staff like Rose and Ron, and Wendy too that will serve to you in the chill food indoor court area. Today's special was chicken confit with a mushroom reduction sauce along with silky smooth mashed potatoes and mixed fresh salad. I love that they have dressing in the side in a container for us who just loves it plain. Plus don't forget to grab their awesome and yummy drinks too like their Filipino Royale with Butterfly Tea and lemonade made with calamari. I had been wanting to try this place since they were on Republican St about 5 years ago but never made it. Today I unexpectedly got to check it out after I literally went "window shopping" for windows at Dole Cannery. I was hungry for something better than a Costco hotdog and recalled Olena was there but not exactly sure where. I was happy to find it located right in the middle of the food court. This cozy and bustling little take out place, had a constant flow of customers going in and out. The menu is simple in that there are not a lot of items but it does cover all the bases with different proteins including lemongrass organic tofu, lemongrass chicken, adobo pork belly, and prime beef brisket. You can get your choice in a banh mi sandwich, on rice , or salad. If you don't feel like a sandwich, they have stew, fish and chips, and soba noodle salad you can grab and go as a healthy option. They also offer baked goods and a variety of fresh drinks displayed in their fridge. Chef Ron's wife, Rose, is a hoot! Full of energy and personality, she can explain each dish and drink in great detail. She informed me that the Filipino lemonade,made with freshly squeezed calamansi and tiny chopped up pineapple is great for digestion. I was all ready to order it until I spied the beautiful purple and yellow Royal Filipino Lemonade. She said it was made with locally grown butterfly pea and even demonstrated how mixing the blue liquid with the yellow calamansi pineapple immediately turned a beautiful violet! I like my drinks watered down so after diluting it with some water it was even better! I got the lemongrass chicken banh mi. She was right about the bahn mi bread being crispy but soft and not sharp so it wouldn't cut your mouth. A must when I visit Oahu. I typically visit Oahu once a year and each time, I make sure to stop by Olena's for some delicious foods and desserts. Love the food here no matter what it is. I'm just not into the really salty and fried stuff that seems to be a common theme in Hawaii. And although I'm not into oily stuff either I got their Philly which is a lot different than what you would expect from other Philly sandwiches in a good way. A hidden gem located in Dole Cannery! I ordered the fish and chips and it was one of the best fish and chips on this island! There were big pieces of crispy fish that were nice and flaky. I upgraded to truffle fries and that was a good call! The fries were thin and crispy and had big pieces of Parmesan cheese on top. Now this place is on another level in my opinion. I've been reading the reviews on here about this place and just found this place by accident, unfortunately everything was closing at the time so I promised myself to come back here. Finally, had a break from a long work week and decided to go. I had a craving for some beef stew and this place didn't disappoint. It's was so good I wolfed it down in minutes, lol! It's located in a food court so if you've got a group that doesn't agree much on what to eat, just come to the Dole Cannery food court. Olena should be enough though. The adobo pork belly bowl was the favorite. The fish and chips with mahi mahi was also solid with the tartar sauce. The Filipino lemonade was super tasty and the royal Filipino lemonade was awesome-Rose put on a show for the kids! Very memorable. Located in the Dole Cannery on the ground floor across the street from Regal Theater. They have parking at Dole Cannery and they validate for 2 hours or parking at Costco parking. My wife loves fish & chips and the reviews of the fish and chips were all 5 stars, so decided to take her there. She didn't care for the fish and chip, because it had some of the blood part still on so it was bitter and they use mahi mahi instead of cod. I had the Ba min made with lemon grass chicken, which was good, but could use some fresh jalapeño slices, the bun was excellent it was nice and crispy and soft on the inside. The staff were very friendly and nice. The restaurant was clean and the food court dinning area, must had a function for card collectors and trading which was pretty crowded with people playing board games and trading items. Never have I tried a soba salad with "fresh" salmon and gosh how he packs it with so much flavor and texture is quite insane. You already had me at soba but when I hear salmon that's the bougie cherry on top and to call it a salad is an understatement as it's packed with so much including kamaboko, carrots, ocean salad, egg, and organic Waipoli Greens from Maui topped with fresh salmon. The sesame sauce has tumeric which gives it that golden glow and the flavor it gives is so delicate yet explosive I'm in love. Shop is cozy but is filled with so much baked goods as well from Banana Poi Bread to Red Velvet Cupcakes how is it that I've never know it existed! I loved it so much that I called the number on the sticker just to tell them how good it was! LOL! Rose answered my call and we exchanged a good laugh about it. They open at 11am, but answered the phone at 9am which was great! I was preparing for a lunch meeting that day, and had questions about the menu and wanted to prepare them in advance since this is a small location. The person I spoke with happily obliged and said to call back when I have my orders. I was concerned about not having enough of a particular item, but she took my order before they opened, I called back at 10am. She actually prefer on-line orders, but that was impossible for me at that time. First time here, and they spoke to me like I was a regular, super helpful, and so friendly! They had my orders all packed up and in a brown paper bag with easy to carry handles. The beef stew order was also packaged separately and securely in a it's own plastic bag, in-case of spillage. The beef stew was delicious, good ratio of beef, to vegetables. The beef was so soft, the vegetables cooked perfectly. Nice flavor, not too salty, good amount of soup. The rice, and toss greens was in its own compartment, and the salad dressing in its own container. I appreciate their thoughtfulness in nicely packing our orders! The chicken lemongrass bowl was the favorite of the lunch meeting crowd. Some of them requested to substitute white rice for the 'Olena yellow rice. It must have been good because there was no leftovers or waste. My boss is a small eater, and took the leftovers back to her desk and ate the rest after the meeting. 'Olena by Chef Ron Simon is located at the Dole Cannery Shops on the ground floor, next door to Subway. Entrance to the parking area is on Pacific Street, look for the bright yellow parking structure. I love it when I'm able to provide a good lunch for our work meeting!
