    Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi Bowl

Highly recommended to try this eatery if you're around Dole Cannery during lunchtime. Hidden gem at the food court ground level. The food tasted better than my eyes feasting on this chicken soba bowl. The owner and cashier were friendly and helpful with my selections. Able room to dine around the enclosed food courtyard. Try it!

Highly suggest supporting this small business. Rose is so pleasant and helpful about menu items, and suggestions on what to order. The portions are huge. The offerings so very gourmet. The seating is in the dole courtyard. Everything we ordered was tasty and portions are substantial. Parking is validated for 2 hours at the dole cannery theater lot. We ordered lemon grass bahn mi, fries, combo brownie bread, and the herbal purple tea. For $35 everything is reasonable because of the portions and taste. Bahn mi on warm French bread topped with lemon grass chicken and pickled daikon. So delicious full of flavor. French fries came out piping hot. Herbal tea was so refreshing. The dessert didn't last. We finished it right after lunch. Banana bread was so moist. Chicken was probably marinated with fish sauce which created a flavorful dish. So good. Will definitely come back to and return to try everything on the menu.

Delicious food, that taste like it's home-cooked and brought out with bright kindness by Rose. This was a gem of a find and the service was top notch. Calamansi lemonade with fresh fruits at the bottom. Unassuming food court ambiance so it's good for kids and families looking for a little bit of space,

Love, love, love!!! This is such an amazing place to come here in the Dole Cannery where it's truly peaceful. 'Olena by Chef Ron Simon is amazing! It's high quality HEALTHY food is fine dining cuisine for take out with reasonable prices, too. Trust me since I've dined many fancy upscale places that leave you hungry and poor. It's starts with amazing staff like Rose and Ron, and Wendy too that will serve to you in the chill food indoor court area. Today's special was chicken confit with a mushroom reduction sauce along with silky smooth mashed potatoes and mixed fresh salad. I love that they have dressing in the side in a container for us who just loves it plain. Plus don't forget to grab their awesome and yummy drinks too like their Filipino Royale with Butterfly Tea and lemonade made with calamari. Better yet, take one or a couple for dinner to go for the Ohana! My go to favorite is their red wine reduction beef stew that it literally "broke da mouth"!!! Food coma, baby...not really bc it's healthy. Love how everything comes out hot and fresh and the staff knows your name...and most of all, mouth savoring and healthy all in one. So come try it but remember that they only open from 11am-2pm, ok... Bon Appetite!

I had been wanting to try this place since they were on Republican St about 5 years ago but never made it. Today I unexpectedly got to check it out after I literally went "window shopping" for windows at Dole Cannery. I was hungry for something better than a Costco hotdog and recalled Olena was there but not exactly sure where. I was happy to find it located right in the middle of the food court. This cozy and bustling little take out place, had a constant flow of customers going in and out. The menu is simple in that there are not a lot of items but it does cover all the bases with different proteins including lemongrass organic tofu, lemongrass chicken, adobo pork belly, and prime beef brisket. You can get your choice in a banh mi sandwich, on rice , or salad. If you don't feel like a sandwich, they have stew, fish and chips, and soba noodle salad you can grab and go as a healthy option. They also offer baked goods and a variety of fresh drinks displayed in their fridge. Chef Ron's wife, Rose, is a hoot! Full of energy and personality, she can explain each dish and drink in great detail. She informed me that the Filipino lemonade, made with freshly squeezed calamansi and tiny chopped up pineapple is great for digestion. I was all ready to order it until I spied the beautiful purple and yellow Royal Filipino Lemonade. She said it was made with locally grown butterfly pea and even demonstrated how mixing the blue liquid with the yellow calamansi pineapple immediately turned a beautiful violet! I like my drinks watered down so after diluting it with some water it was even better! I got the lemongrass chicken banh mi. She was right about the bahn mi bread being crispy but soft and not sharp so it wouldn't cut your mouth. I liked how I could taste the freshness of each ingredient, i.e, pickled daikon, carrots, and onions, cilantro, and cucumbers. I love Olena's motto : Eat Better Feel Better! Food that's good for the body and soul is the best!

Last time I tried Olena's was when they were in the Kalihi district. I didn't realize that they had moved to their current location until recently which is a much better location. Love their fish n chips as the fish is always fresh and the batter is nice and crispy but not too much batter! It was so good I started eating it in the car!! The tartar sauce is also good as you gotta ask for extra! Yesterday, I was hungry and wanted to try their pork belly adobo. It was good and not over bearing with vinegar. The only criteria I had was, I should have had them separate the toss greens because the hot pork belly wilted my salad. I chose the Olena rice and that was good! You know the food is great when they have their regulars and the Mrs knows each customer by their names!!! The food is great but nothing like excellent friendly customer service!!!

I found them! From Republican street to Dole Cannery. Dining at 'Ōlena is a true celebration of Hawaiian and Filipino flavors elevated to a luxury level. Every dish is beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, highlighting fresh, locally sourced ingredients that showcase the essence of Maui. The flavors are bold yet balanced each bite feels intentional and unforgettable. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing, perfectly complementing the refined menu, while the service is warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. From start to finish, the experience feels special and immersive, whether you're enjoying a romantic dinner or a memorable night out. 'Ōlena delivers excellence in food, service, and ambiance. A must-visit dining destination in Hawaiʻi Don't forget they do take outs, Grab and go! Call early and park right in front of Dole theatre's.

A must when I visit Oahu. I typically visit Oahu once a year and each time, I make sure to stop by Olena's for some delicious foods and desserts. The banh mi and fries are delicious and made to order. Their banana bread is so good, my friends and I order it frozen to bring back to California with us. I personally love their brownies and Filipino lemonade. Besides the food, the customer service is above all others. Rose is always so friendly and kind. She remembers us even though we only visit once a year. Definitely a place I recommend to anyone visiting Oahu!

Their dishes are excellent and reasonably priced too. Beef brisket is one of the best ever had not the traditional BBQ type more of Asian/southern BBQ fusion. Hard to explain just gotta try and will see what I mean. Beef is super tender. Beef stew is another excellent choice. Think of it as a fancy enchanced version of local beef with tender beef and unique flavors and spices. A must try.

I think I'll start this review off with: Rose is AMAZING! Her enthusiasm is infectious and she really adds FLAVOR to your experience. That said, EVERYONE here is so hospitable. They truly amassed a wonderful collection of people. I feel like every single time I've been here, they've blown me away by going the extra mile and putting a smile on my face. Special shout-out to the son who made the day extra special for my mom when her preferred drink was sold out. Okay okay, but this is a FOOD review. And I can't wait to rave about their Loco Moco which is only available on Saturdays! First things first, I gotta be honest and rave about their grass-fed beef. The patty was EXCELLENT and I know I know, Rose is gonna say that the red wine sauce in place of the gravy is the chef's kiss (and it really is so good I forgot loco mocos with gravy existed in the first place) but I gotta say the patty was delicious and done perfectly. So if that's anything to go by... you can BET I'm gonna try their burger next... which is also a Saturday Special. Now the ambiance... well, you see, it's a take-out place inside a food court/mini-mall. Is the place clean? Yes! Is the place safe? Yes! Do I wish I could eat this gourmet food on a nice plate with real silverware? Also yes!!! But you know what, the food is good, the price is good, and the service is stellar so I feel greedy if I ask for more. Their take-out boxes are legit anyways. OH! Get their ROYAL Filipino Lemonade and get their banana bread bites! SO ONO! Last visited March 15, 2025 but can't wait to go back again!

    Olena philly cheesesteak

Love the food here no matter what it is. I'm just not into the really salty and fried stuff that seems to be a common theme in Hawaii. And although I'm not into oily stuff either I got their Philly which is a lot different than what you would expect from other Philly sandwiches in a good way. There's a good mix of veggies and as usual it didn't put me to sleep but boy was I stuffed. And unlike other places I don't get an allergic reaction from all the salt and flavorings they use elsewhere. Just simple and fresh ingredients.

    Fish & chips
    Hailley O.

A hidden gem located in Dole Cannery! I ordered the fish and chips and it was one of the best fish and chips on this island! There were big pieces of crispy fish that were nice and flaky. I upgraded to truffle fries and that was a good call! The fries were thin and crispy and had big pieces of Parmesan cheese on top. The lady taking my order was very friendly and even brought it out to me while I was waiting outside. The food came out quickly too so that was a plus. I would come here again for the fish and chips! The other dishes on their menu look tasty too so wouldn't mind trying something different as well.

Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi. So ono.

And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Although everything was so good. Service was insanely fast and super friendly. Lots of outdoor tables with umbrellas, the place was pretty busy but we were able to get seating and we got our food in seconds.

While they do have a parking, I suggest just parking on the street and walking up to the place. Signs clearly direct you to which window you can order food from and another for food pickup/dessert only ordering. We opted for combo plate (kalua pork and chicken long rice) w/ a side of poi. Both the kalua pork and chicken long rice were tasty but wished we had ordered rice instead so that i could mop up the delicious fat from the kalua pork! Loved the haupia pudding but wished they would give you a bit more. For dessert we ordered the tahitian sweet lady which was delicious! Wasn't a fan of the salmon lomi as it was pretty fishy for me. As we waited for our food, we noticed a dessert chilling on the ledge and joked with my wife that it was likely ours. Sure enough after 10 mins, the ice cream guy asked the cashier whose it was and at that time was our number called. Sadly, the ice cream had already started to melt. Wished they wouldn't have prepared the dessert until after our food was ready. Would definitely head back for their plate lunches and to try the sweet lady of waiahole dessert.

The owner was very friendly and took the time to recommend dishes for us, including the laulau and lechon kawali. We also ordered the BBQ short ribs. Overall, it was a good experience trying Hawaiian food, but it's just not really our type of cuisine. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Either the owner or the manager seemed like a one man show. He was the server, bus boy, and chef. Husband got the pipikalua short ribs/he enjoyed. Sisters got the pork lau lau which came with sweet potato, rice or poi, lomi lomi salmon (more onion and tomato than salmon). i got the chicken lau lau, again stuffed with chicken, not enough taro leaves. Only six tables in the entire restaurant. The gentleman that was serving us I believe was also the bus boy, cook, server and cashier! Place is a hole in the wall with missing ceiling tiles and exposed panels above our table (gross!!). Sis loves this dive so we keep coming back!
