For the street eats loving crowds of Sai Yeung Choi Street, it was only natural to include J&G Fried Chicken into the mix. Considering Taiwanese superstar Hot Star's proximity relative to this stall, it's clear the competition in Mongkok is stiff. But the real question is: How is the chicken? In terms of crispiness, the job is bang up quality and is super reminiscent of chicken I've had in Taiwan. The meat is tender and the crust is not too crispy. This is sort of like that good ol American chain (#1) with the texture and taste. Aim for the nuggets and graduate from there to the bigger options. And of course, they offer some really tasty drinks to boot. Some are tea based and the others are fruit based, but all in all they make for quench worthy drinks in any hot weather situation. Plus, they pair well with the chicken itself. Prices are affordable and J&G accepts the Octopus Card. The service is pretty decent. You can also customize your level of spiciness to your own taste. Order sizes come in small, medium, and large. I ordered the large size which was HK$50 for approximately 25 pieces, which was the perfect snack size for two people while wandering the Ladies Market. My spiciness level was supposed to be at 10%, but I found it a bit too spicy for certain bites, because the seasoning was not evenly distributed. This particular location has only 2 food items and 3 drink choices. It's more of an express location, which does not carry the usual fried chicken filet or wings. Each chicken snack comes inside a paper bag, inside a plastic bag. They will give you wooden sticks to use as skewers for the chicken. There is no seating available like most food stalls in Mongkok and they fry the chicken in small batches, so you may be waiting for at least 5 minutes for your order. The cold drinks available were iced plum tea, fruit tea, and cold brewed tea at only HK$14 each. They were cold and refreshing for the hot day. Next time, I will try the other J&G location in Mongkok which offers a few more of the chicken options to get a bit more variety, but the nuggets are still my favorite fried snack!

The daytime is usually filled with lines of folks looking to score any of their various street foods, which sometimes includes yours truly. Somehow the exterior has gotten worse over time. While it's as recognizable as any place, there were days where the restaurant looked much nicer. If one looks past beyond the lines, there is indoor seating available. It is every bit as tight as other HK eateries, with folks often sharing tables and not particularly a good fit for large groups. The place is clean and interestingly has a lot of portraits of pets. Most folks are gunning for their curry fishballs and cheung fun rice rolls, which can be directly accessed from their street side window. The fish balls have good texture and that spongy exterior is good with the pseudo spicy curry sauce. I love the rice rolls with a little peanut butter sauce and sesame, which is semi-addicting. There is also their siu mai, which seems on par with many of the food stalls, but is better with a bit of sweet soy and chili oil. Washing it all down with their cold and sweet soya milk (凍豆漿) is highly recommended. Since they're constantly crowded, the service works very quickly. I don't recall them accepting credit cards, but I have always paid in cash or with an octopus card. Compared to their Mong Kok location near the Flower Market, I would still choose this one in YMT.

Every time I walk by, I see people buying from the little take out window. They also have tables inside for normal dining. I've only gotten food to go. I enjoy the food here and I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the area. SERVICE: At the take out window, you just tell them what you want and they prepare it in front of you and you just pay them right there. I usually pay in cash but I think they also take octopus card. I forgot to ask if they have English menus but at first glance, all visible signs are only in Chinese.

From the look of it, they have quite a large selection of dishes, including some decent looking seafood as well. Honestly, it's pretty hard to go wrong with chicken in Hong Kong. Price is slightly more expense than other local diners, but just marginally so.
