A local favourite, often with a long line of people in the evenings during cooler season, this is a no frills, unassuming hot pot restaurant where you can truly experience the street dining experience that we pioneered before the west caught on (har har).
This is a place that I frequent with my father (on our father-daughter dates ). It is one of his favourites because it is inexpensive, has good hand cut beef slices and hand-beaten meatballs, and also features some harder to find local soup bases like pork lung and preserved veggies, or pork stomach with white pepper. You also can't go wrong with a simple pork bone based soup, but I really do prefer a soothing pork lung soup -- give it a try! You're not required to consume the actual offals, in case you're skittish about unfamiliar foods. Just don't think about it much like how you don't think twice before consuming a sausage.
For the authentic old school Hong Kong experience -- you're near temple street anyway! -- opt for an outdoor folded table, get a Blue Girl or San Miguel beer, and sweat it out as you consume the piping hot pieces of food. It's worth it. read more
