Since we live in the Silicon Valley and have had our fair share of banh mi, we were very tempted to try it and to see if it is as good as the sandwiches back home. Both of us ordered a sandwich and brought it back to our hotel, which is just a few steps away from this place. The banh mi was actually pretty good. Not bad considering that Vietnamese food isn't expected to be good in Hong Kong. It just wasn't as good as it is back home. Also, it was a little bit expensive. However, no one was fazed as there was a pretty long line. It is because this particular location was featured on one of the local shows on TVB. I would say that it is worth checking out, especially if you've never had banh mi before.

Oddly enough, there aren't a lot of Vietnamese businesses with actual Vietnamese names in Hong…read moreKong. Hence when I came across Vuong's (The 華僑 name is "Martin Wong" - 馬丁王), I was immediately curious. My love of banh mi got me through the door, but similarly to other Vietnamese spots, all I got was a mouthful of disappointment. Option #1 is their version of dac biet, a sort of house special that includes typical items like pickled veggies and pate, but also some really strange additions like slices of tomato and pork floss. More importantly the toasted baguette was a bit too thick, which practically ruined the sandwich. I had a few more bites before I succumbed to the notion I wasn't going to finish the banh mi. It really was that bad. So I gave them another shot. I went with chicken and pork and it was loaded with cucumbers and tomatoes. The bread was a little more tolerable this time around, but the shredded carrots, tomatoes, and cucumber was just too much like a salad in a sandwich. The meat was skimpy, but that is to be expected in HK. Speaking of salads, they have a whole section of the menu dedicated to it, but I haven't had any yet. Their saving grace -- the prices are fairly affordable. It's not exactly Viet cheap, but it's also in Jordan where nothing is terribly expensive. I'm not sure if I'll be back to Vuong's anytime soon, but I am sure there are better options out there. I'm counting on it.

Since I was visiting from out of town, I was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and I didn't feel out of place. If I do go back in the future, I'd probably wear a collared shirt since it is a nice restaurant. My favorite items were the bufala pizza, three chocolate cake and apple tart. The pizza is a must try because their crust is thin, crispy and topped it with fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. It was delicious and if I could eat more, I would have ordered a second one! The three chocolate cake was a stand out because it wasn't overly sweet and it was airy. It's not your average chocolate cake so order it. Compared to the cake, the apple tart was sweeter. It was a pretty dessert. They layered thinly sliced apples over a sweet flaky crust and topped it with pistachio ice cream. This dessert is great for sharing. I had a table that was in front of the kitchen so it was really cool to be able to see the chefs prepare the food. The staffs were friendly and they all speak English. They were very efficient on clearing off the plates when we finished a dish. Before we got our bill, the GM came over to ask us if we enjoyed our meal. That's a nice touch because I normally don't get that kind of thing in the states. Overall, I had a great meal and it came out to about $400 per person so that was reasonable. If I do visit Hong Kong again in the future, this restaurant will be on my list.

Eggplant parmesan? Or eggplant lasagna? This is what I was served when I ordered eggplant parmesan…read moreat CIAK here in Landmark. As I look up the website, I see that it was awarded a Michelin star for two-three years in a row, a couple of years back. Just a few days ago, I had pesto, so I didn't go for the pasta but the eggplant parmesan again. And I must say I wasn't very impressed. When I think of eggplant parmesan, I think something a bit breaded, a bit crusty, very chunky tomato sauce-y. This wasn't breaded. It wasn't crusty. Wasn't very sauce-y but not dry. I think eggplant lasagna might be a better way to describe this, to avoid disappointment on not getting the eggplant parmesan. It was very neatly presented, neatly portioned to be able to cut out slices. The taste wasn't bad and it tasted better at home later that evening, as I took my leftovers to go. The house breads were good. I was too chatty to get a picture of my Long Island Iced Tea. The space was quite big and the menu, overall extensive. I may stop here for another bite someday. Pesto something, I'd guess. More photos and details on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

It's surprisingly large inside and easy to get a table even at popular times. I actually loved how it's not highly rated so it wa purely locals inside. The one thing that drove me nuts was ordering from a QR code and app I had to download, highly prefer just ordering from a waiter. The unfortunate thing that happened was I was waiting a long time for Hainan Chicken Rice and had to flag someone down about why it was taking so long only to be told it sold out, would not have happened if I ordered from a human. The menu is very large and there is a lot of Western/HK/Fusion dishes to choose from. Soy Sauce Chicken Wings with Noodles: Got a fried egg on the side and added it, noodles were OK and lightly seasoned but the chicken was amazing and tasty. Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Neatly plated and cut into sharing portions, we all had a bite and it tasted great.

They have many unique flavors like earl grey tea, matcha, and peanut butter! They also have the original buttermilk and chocolate. You also have a choice of your fruit toppings and sauce. My friend and I had the earl grey pancakes topped with fruit and classic maple syrup. The pancakes are thick like Japanese style hotcakes and they are pretty fluffy as well. The earl grey didn't really taste a lot different from regular pancakes to me although it did have a faint tea flavor and was less sweet than regular buttermilk pancakes. We also had the toast and egg combo was which pretty average but not bad. The smoothies and coffee here are also pretty good, but again nothing special. Personally, I would probably only come here for the pancakes. Prices range about 100hkd a person and a little more if you order drinks.

You order and pay at the counter and you receive a transponder when your food is ready for pick up. The menu is in the form of a photo album and some are hand written with pictures. Two of us ordered the potato salad and early grey pancakes with Nutella, bananas and strawberries to share along with a soda and a refresher smooth (green apple, cucumber, mint). The Earl grey pancakes came out more like thick pan cakes stacked on top of each other with Nutella in between them. These aren't really the fluffy pancakes which I was expecting as its dense and more like a cake. The two of us couldn't finish the huge stack but one girl next to us finished the whole stack by herself! The soda and smoothie tasted very blend and was sure no sugar was added. The service was good and the menu is thoughtfully put together but I would hope to taste some fluffier pancakes in the future.

Light salads through to small pasta and egg dishes, a broad selection. Service was friendly and attentive. Food came out fast, and in sequence. There was no hurry up at the end of the meal - the staff topped up my tea, encouraging me to linger. I had the soup of the day - mushroom - which was properly seasoned and tasted delicious. My main was the Prawn and Poached Egg Pasta on chilli oil linguine. A hit with me, and sized so that you don't feel bloated at the end of the meal. The lunch set included a choice of teas - just a teabag serving, topped up graciously by the staff. Happy to go back or recommend to others.
