The three of us ordered a dish of braised goose and tofu as appetizer, some stir-fried vegetables, grilled fish and a spicy chicken. The food was alright... I've had better of each of those dishes elsewhere before. The most disappointing one was perhaps the fried spicy chicken as it was quite tasteless and not spicy at all. I'm usually a big fan of local businesses that aren't chain stores but I guess this restaurant must serve better quality food in order to keep their customers and survive to combat soaring rent in Causeway Bay.

I do not know how you feel about this but I already feel like a winner having been to a place called Regal Terrace. Also, its Chinese name means it is a place for billionaires, who came up with this name actually? Anyway, I could not make any judgment before I finally gave it a try. So my friends and I were craving for some dim sum and since we were just cycling in Shatin, stopping by the Regal Riverside Hotel seemed like a nice idea. And as it was one normal weekday, it was not so packed and we were seated right away. To start with the décor of this place, it wasn't as regal as it claimed... actually it looked awfully similar to other Chinese restaurants, (but I like its logo design). As for the menu, you would expect everything that a Chinese restaurant would serve. Nothing surprising. Time to make orders. Who would not order Siu Mai and Shrimp dumplings whenever you go to Yum Cha to be honest? As you can easily tell if it is a nice restaurant or not by these two simple dishes. It took around 20 minutes before we got the food and the shrimp dumplings were much better than the Siu Mai probably because of the thin wrappings, (I hate those with super thick skin and you feel like you are chewing rubber sometimes). So I was very pleased with the dumplings. As for the Siu Mai, I actually think Siu Mai tastes the same wherever I am so it was all right. As for the staff they refilled water and tea pretty fast and they seemed rather nice as well. Unlike those rude waiters/waitresses you may come across at a dim sum place. Anyway, I enjoyed this place a lot and if you happen to be around, give it a try.

For HKD$60 per person, we each got 4 dim sum choices, a noodle dish, congee, and tea. What a great deal! When looking at the regular menu, prices were much higher. The restaurant has an extensive menu of other choices as well. The atmosphere is cruise ship tacky. We found it quite awful and garish, but were grateful for a table by the window so we could look out over the river and not be blinded by the horrible decor. However, we truly enjoyed the dim sum and the great deal offered as a part of this special for hotel guests. We are quite sure we would not visit the restaurant to pay full price from the regular menu, though.

Many places will not properly soak the bread in milk. this results in a piece of egg stuck to the bread instead of eggs permeating the bread. The shrimp Mee Siam had fresh bouncy shrimp. The flavor was good, but be sure to ask them to go easy on the sugar and give you more of the spicy red sauce with tiny spicy bits in it. It was a bit too sweet and not spicy enough. The best part is the coffee. They'll make your coffee just the way you like it. See my pic for the coffee customization order chart. There's literally a hundred different ways you can have your coffee here. I told them that I wanted my coffee super concentrated and they gave me a cup of coffee that was black as the night and tasted like I was drinking coffee bean sludge, just the way I like it. Conclusion (**** out of *****); The tally is 3 stars, but I've bumped up the rating another star for value as their afternoon French kaya toast set is only 32HKD including coffee (kopi), 22 without the kopi, and the Mee Siam lunch set is only 60 HKD. But be warned, you may feel sleepy after eating it, but it's so worth it! The toast was toasty with a slab of butter in the middle and kaya. Mmm... Their Hainan Chicken was all right, but I have to admit, the rice that came with it tasted so amazing... I felt as if I could rather eat the rice than the chicken itself. As for the food itself, quality is alright but nothing spectacular. Flavor is on the bland side but seems more healthy than other places. The noodle soups I tried tasted mediocre at best and thr sticky rice roll was wrapped well though filling was a bit overcooked and dry. It's a spot to grab some cheap food that is filling if you're not interested in going out farther than the Shatin Lucky Plaza area. Service was A-OK and you can pay via cash, Octopus, or credit card. There are two lift areas to go up - one in the main lobby and one off to the right side, down a narrow hallway (best for when the main lifts are too busy). When talking to my friends about the best places for dim sum, establishments such as Maxim's Palace, Tim Ho Wan, Lei Garden, Dim Dim Sum and One Dim Sum pop up. But not many know about Ho Choi... Why is that? I'm actually not too sure myself. They have two branches in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan, which could be far for some, and one in Kwun Tong (which I frequent because it's close to where I work). Some say the original Ho Choi in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan is OK, nothing to special, so I decided to take a visit out to see if they were correct. (A separate review for the Sai Wan one will be posted soon!) But I can definitely vouch for Ho Choi in Kwun Tong to be one of my favorite places! The tables in the main area - that is, not in a "room" - are up for grabs, first come first serve. Get there before 12:10pm to beat the lunch crowd, or risk waiting for a while. The best thing, if you want to skip the wait, is to make a reservation for one of the tables in the "rooms" for ordering main dishes (小菜). You must order 3 or more main dishes when seated at those tables. But of course, you can still order dim sum there. Win-win! Also, because it's sectioned off from the main area, it's much quieter and more conducive to business lunches. While the prices for dim sum and main dishes have gone up in recent years (inflation, rental increases, etc), rest assured you are still getting your money's worth of delicious food! They used to have different price tiers - cheaper in the morning, standard rates during weekday lunch times, and higher prices on the weekends - but upon checking the prices during my last visit, it looks like they are now fixed. For 5 people, with 4 main dishes, and 6 dim sum plates, the total came to be just under HKD 700. Excellent bang for your buck! The tea charge is $12 per person, which is fairly standard. Dim sum plates are tiered, starting at $17 for 'small', up to $32-$35 for 'specialty' plates. Ordering the dim sum is very easy, as you just need to fill in a Scantron-like sheet (college throw-back eh?), with dishes listed in English and Chinese. I was asked to order for the table: - Crispy chicken (half) 脆皮雞 (半) - so crispy, so good! - Sweet and sour pork 咕嚕肉 - my first time ordering the 咕嚕肉 here and everyone raved about it! The freshly prepared sweet and sour pork is a game-changer here and puts those found at a buffet to shame. - Sauteed broccoli with scallops - need those vegetables and seafood! - E-fu noodles with shrimp and egg whites - I appreciate the lack of salt and strong flavors in this noodle dish, as it helps to balance out the other salty and heavy dishes. Thankfully no MSG! Dim sum on point. I'm already hungry for more, even from writing this review. Top favorites here are the BBQ pork buns, chicken feet with black bean sauce (my absolute favorite!), Chiu Chow dumplings (潮州粉粿), and Jin Deui sesame balls (煎堆). The king crab was huge, cooked with Chinese yellow rice wine which was just perfect. We have ordered a noodle to mix with the wine sauce. The goose was tender and meaty. Most of us were satistfied and full after these 2 dish cos of the huge portion. Then the Grouper was super fresh. The bill, which was just HKD 28xx only. Service is okay, which was comparatively better then the other Chinese restaurants like Lee Garden at Kln Bay.

They definitely have longer lines and far more business in the winter months, so they typically roll out promotions / specials during the summer to attract more business. Their prices are very fair and amazing value for both lunch and dinner - the meat is not overly fatty, not too chewy, and good quality. Apart from the cuts of meat you order directly from the staff, you pick up other vegetables / mushrooms / carbs (udon/ramen/vermicelli/noodles) from the buffet area. For dessert, they also have a soft serve machine along with a slew of toppings. They are very strict on the meal time allocations (90 minutes), regardless of whether the restaurant is full and if there are folks waiting. They aren't pushy though, and just give you your bill 15 minutes prior to the time limit. I have found that if you eat at a consistent pace and don't just talk over the meal, the time is plenty and you'll definitely be full afterwards.

I know, I know... but hey, it's my comfort food eh!!! ;) Their stir fry dishes (小炒) for lunch or dinner are also really good. So whether you come for bfast / lunch / or dinner... you'll always find good food here with good prices. Thumbs up!
