The Chain started in Korea in 1981 and has over 140 shops all over Korea now. Being one of the two in Hong Kong, we choose to go the one in Tsuen Wan Plaza. With available underground parking, this is a great location for shopping and dinning. Since it is a new experience for us, we asked for some advice from the person at the front who took our order and also took us to our table. In a nut shell, you get AYCE Korean Chicken Galbi & BBQ items! In the centre of the grill you will have a cooking area for your chicken, the perimeter of the grill is left for your grilled meats etc. They also give you a choice of rice or noodles to mix into the chicken in the centre, and if you want you can also use the centre cooking area to make a hot pot with the soup provided!! As a newbie, this is serious cooking!! Busy with the centre while you have to watch out for all the meats around the side! I have to say all the meats are of high quality and of course their chicken is well spiced and very flavourful!! With all the hot & cold drinks included, your also get a small dessert selection with soft serve as well!! Great experience and you also have fun cooking along the way!! Unlike the regular Korean BBQ we are all so familiar with, this has many other ways you can enjoy the great flavours of a Korean meal!

Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

We got here fairly early, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was as expected - quick, efficient, and no nonsense. A tell-tale sign of a good HK cafe. The food just hit the spot for me, bringing me right back to my childhood memories of eating this on weekend mornings at our local HK cafe. Note that they don't accept foreign credit cards, so be prepared with cash, Octopus, or Alipay.

Not only was the service poor and unfriendly, but the menu was very misleading. For oue sets, it said that cold drinks were an extra $2, with cold lemon coke an additional $4. However, they charged our lemon 7ups an extra $4, as well as the lemon honey watercress. Although the portions were large (I couldn't finish mine), the noodles were hard and lacked in taste. After eating the noodles for a while, I began to tire of the texture and flavour. That being said, the honeycomb tripe was very tasty (the black fungus, not very much so). The mala spice duck gizzards, however, stole the show! The bill totalled 400HKD for 8 people, an okay price all things included. Was an interesting experience, but won't come again!

Surprisingly it was highly recommended by an American colleague. (If you are reading this you know I am talking about you haha...) So when another new colleague and I were struggling to figure out where to have lunch, he suggested us to this place - "Have you guys tried Knife-Cut Noodle before?" he said. "Nope." Honestly I prefer typical rice noodles and knife-cut noodle sounds too fancy for me. Anyways, since he was so eager (and you could definitely see the sparks in his eyes), we went there. At first glance, it was just one of those Chinese restaurants on the street - nothing out of ordinary, except maybe the wall of photos with countless local celebrities who have been here. After around 10 minutes of waiting, we got inside. Very local was my first impression. Just when I was wondering how he ordered in this place, and turns out he speaks fairly good Cantonese and all the staff knew him already. A regular diner I bet. He recommended us to have the signature dish and his favorite - Deep fried pork with knife-cut noodle. After a while the food was served. It was very sweet of them to serve the pork separately so that it did not go soft being put in the soup. First try was the soup, fairly sweet flavoured but the star here was the noodles and the pork chop for sure. The pork chop was perfectly fried and the noodles were freshly made and sliced. Very authentic. However, please do expect to wait for the dish for around 20 minutes. The price range is around HKD$40 to HKD$60. However the food quality is fairly high and with this decent price, it is definitely worth it. Now that I no longer work in Tsuen Wan anymore, I have not been there for a long time but I am sure if I ever go back, I will go there with my friend again.

My reason for not re-visit this place was there are too many options around. Until last night - the 2nd day of Chinese New Year and a lot of places were still closed. So I decided to pay Ka Lai Yuen a visit. A lot have changed over the years, business is as good as ever, decorations of the store are busy and loud - there are almost no vacant space on the wall AND the ceiling. Every single inch of space is occupied with decorative materials, 8 ceiling fans turning at the same time, gold Buddhas and mirrors everywhere, and pictures of food are pasted on the wall like wallpapers. Their menu is very extensive, too expensive that it's confusing and time consuming to read. They offer any kinds of meat in a ball shape and sliced sausage shape, also all the innards plus the private parts of the cow if you fancy. Yes I said the private parts - the sex organs of both male and female of the animal.... don't see them too often in restaurants in HK. For dare devils out there, why not? So I ordered the beef tendons and tripe with thick noodles, and a bowl of plain cuttlefish balls which is what they are famous for. Both tendons and tripe were very tasty as they should be, tendons themselves were so tender to the point that they could melt in my mouth. Noodles were OK due to the fact that they were made in the factory anyway (I know they don't make their own noodles). The famous cuttlefish balls, I could taste the bits and pieces of chewy cuttlefish in them and a little bit of water chestnuts added for crunchiness, the overall texture was not mushy like some other cuttlefish balls I have had, but more flavor was needed. The seaweed came in the broth had a kind of odd taste to it though. And food here is expensive, $49 for the tendon & tripe noodles and $43 for the cuttlefish balls, I don't even have to pay this much in Central, and this is only Yuen Long! A very important note to people that are allergic to MSG, they do use a lot. So much that my mouth and throat were dry the entire night after eaten there. A whole litre of water didn't even help.
