We both had spicy/ chili and sour base soup, of course we picked rice noodles and got several toppings (like pork intestines, pork liver and leek) and the food in the huge bowl, even though you didn't request, they do give you bean sprouts and scallions. However, this is HK and I will play by its rules. This is a fairly new restaurant inside Discovery Park and soon became one of my favorite in here. The meats are fresh, with lots of soup base to choose from. Along with the all you can eat meats items, it also comes with veggies, tofu, rice, and Haagen-Dazs ice cream which is a bigger seller in HK. For lunch on weekdays, it offers a cheaper meal for 60 minutes. I believe it is $98. For dinner, the normal price is $148 for 90 minutes. Drinks are not included, but you can add that option for additional charges. If you want a split pot for 2 soup bases, it's also an extra $10. Service is not bad, it takes about 5 minutes for them to bring the soup and the meat when your time starts. However, you time starts the minute you walk in so you better decide what you want to order before sitting down. My tip of the day, bring a stop watch, because they will ask you to leave when your time is up even if you are still eating. Yup.

Not salty at all and had such a clean and creamy taste. Noodles were cooked perfectly and tasted similar to thin ramen noodles. It came with 2 different cuts of chicken and both were so tender. I especially enjoyed the cut of the thigh. The fried burdock root had a nice chewy texture. It didn't get too soggy even sitting in the warm broth for a while. I'd say it could be just a tad more crispy because it was a little hard to bite though but the flavour was perfect. Honestly it is quite pricy for a bowl of noodles, but I would definitely revisit as it was that good. Definitely worth the trek out to try!

If that's no indication of how good the place is, perhaps the food will be a better one; I ordered the squid-ink ramen and was utterly beyond satisfied. The order form they have you fill out is laden with customisation options, so the broth comes as rich as you want it to be and same goes for noodle firmness, spice level and condiments. I went for a rich broth with normal firmness on the noodles. The broth definitely has a dominant squid-ink taste yet it's well-balanced with a robust creaminess. The pork belly was tender and succulent and ordering extra noodles makes it even easier to finish the rest of the broth. I would most definitely recommend a visit to Butao! P.S: the seating can be rather limited at times so expect to be sat close next to strangers.

It was so good that I have been there at least 3 times during my 1 month visit! They have set menu as well as you can order individual items. The set menu is slightly cheaper, but the perks is that you can order drinks at discounted price! Their soy milk drink taste really good and it is at only $5 (as compared to $15 regular price) if you have the set menu items. We tried both types of wontons and we prefer the one with wood ear more. We also tried their beef tendon, which is huge portion and taste pretty good. I will definitely return next time when I visit!
