Chicken ramen
Rebecca L.

My boyfriend suggested we eat here. My boyfriend, his mother and I sat at the bar. I really enjoyed the crispy fried vegetable in the chicken ramen. The broth tasted like dashi. The service was great. I'd re-visit.

Place has a real authentic feel to it. The menu is really simple with basically five items on the menu: chicken broth or chicken tsukumen soba, seafood broth soba, fried chicken and rice dish. Food is really good and service is efficient. Good place for lunch for a quick bite and not really a place to have a long conversation with friends. Food: 4.5 stars Value: 3.5 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: Chicken broth soba The broth of the chicken based soba is really rich and has a nice depth of flavor to it. The noodles really soak of the the flavor of the broth while the fried sweet potato chips give some nice crunch and sweetness to the dish. The seafood based soba was good but a bit too salty for my taste. The price is a bit high (138 per bowl and 15 to add a soft boiled egg) for what you get, but I will comeback again to try the fried chicken as well.

IMO the best ramen in Hong Kong. We actually came in thinking it was zarusoba which is my favorite Japanese noodle dish but the ramen was just fine. Perfect tenderness and chewiness to the noodles. The broth had foam on top which resembled cappuccino foam and was incredibly creamy, flavourful without being heavy or rich on the palate. The pork loin (chashu) as you can see was cooked perfectly, still a tiny bit pink and glistening. I particularly liked the inclusion of deep fried burdocks in my noodles, as the meat contrasted nicely with the burdock. The burdock gave it a nice textural contrast but wasn't particularly necessary in terms of flavor. Regardless, I do place a big emphasis on texture in my food. I ordered a Noritama-Uma, and I was thoroughly impressed with what they gave me. They had a rich and flavourful broth and a very tender and juicy piece of pork, which is something I can't necessarily say about other ramen places that I've been to. Their noodles however were a tad soft considering how I asked for them to be extra firm, but otherwise it was very good overall. The soft boiled egg was fantastic, and still had a slightly runny yolk. The gyoza was very fragrant. The filling was tender, with just a tiny portion of the skin having a light crisp texture. The chicken karaage was also very good- the chicken was still succulent, but it still managed to have a light crispy outer layer. I'd rate my experience here positively. It's a little pricier than the places that I'm used to having ramen at, but they've got the food quality to match the higher price tag. This place is definitely worth another visit.

It's not their most recommended ramen, but it's still pretty delicious, especially their Pork. It just so soft. Mm... What I like most about this shop is that they're not joking around with their spicy level. For the noodle that I ordered it comes with their "Jigoku sauce" meaning "Hell sauce", it ranges from 0.5 to 3. Most people should be able to handle 0.5 spicy. Level 1 spicy kicks it up a notch where you kind of can handle it, but you'd need to drink more water. If you got level 3 spicy, you'd probably have a stomach ache from it's spicy content. I'm probably overreacting, but you could try it out yourself.

Ichiran really has a great system down so your order is ready as soon as possible. There's nothing quite like the joy of filling out your paper to customize your ramen. The seats have dividers to the left and right (you can still chat if you've come with friends though!) so when you get your ramen, it really feels like it's just you and your ramen in that space. It's pretty magical. They also have really good water...there's just something really good about it, you'll see. Go here. I still dream about Ichiran and I've been back in the US for over a year now. If you're in Causeway Bay and want a dependable bowl of delicious tonkotsu ramen at any hour, Ichiran delivers.

No booze here - walk one block if you haven't had enough of that. They do make a fantastic HK milk tea, though. A thick Malaysian Curry is full of chunky beef, and I love the soft tendon. A casserole of fried pork chop with tomato sauce and cheese is like chicken parm for Asians. And the Asians did it better. The Hainan Chicken is great, though they don't make the garlic rice. If I'd known the HK diner food was this good, I could have skipped all the Michelins.
