If you are near here, eat here!…read more We were the only westerners in the restaurant, which gives a good hint about local quality. The menu had a LOT of items, each numbered and with short descriptions in English. Everything was, as you'd expect, served family style. We had the hot and sour soup, some veggie dumplings, shredded beef with vegetables, shrimp in chili sauce, all served with tea. Each was fantastic! Seriously. Not good. Not great. Fantastic! There was enough soup for four, which magically disappeared from our table for two. We cleaned every plate, and not because the servings were anything short of generous. The service was also great, while a bit hovering as they seemed worried about how we might handle everything. For one, I was happy they noticed us struggling while making a mess trying to shell the shrimp, bringing us a knife and fork (and extra wet-wipes). Interesting to me, this was the first time we each had two sets of chopsticks. Thankfully, the internet quickly taught us that one set was for serving ourselves from the community plates, and the other for eating. Don't use the eating pair for serving or the serving pair for eating -- it is bad form, especially with COVID being so huge here. Note: they are happy to bring serving spoons, forks and knives if you ask (or appear hopeless). My other mistake, in addition to the shrimp peeling fiasco, was not tipping. When I saw the 10% service fee, and knowing tipping is totally optional and not expected in Hong Kong (and most of SE Asia), I still should have left a bit more, especially considering how helpful they were.

I went here last here on my visit to HK and this was the one restaurant I wanted to return to this year. Not only were the Xiao long baos filled with juice, but so were the potstickers. Be careful when eating because my dad bit into one and it sprayed juice all over his sweater! The pork chop was- big and moist. I can't believe the pork chop noodles was about $10 USD. When we got back to the US, my daughter said she was craving those noodles! I like that the minimum orders for the xiao long baos is four and the potstickers is three so you don't have to order too much. The restaurant was very clean and modern. A hidden gem!

They gave us an English menu and we were starving so we ordered a bunch of things. Everything was pretty delicious, but a couple items really stood out: XIAO LONG BAO - The best xiao long bao I've ever had. The skin was thin and delicate and the filling and soup were so savory and delicious. I had two and ordered another set just for me. I didn't even really need the sauce. :D PAN FRIED POTSTICKERS - This was super tasty and juicy inside, but watch out.. it's HOT! SPICY CHILI WONTONS - Not spicy, but the chili sauce was super flavorful. This restaurant wasn't in our itinerary, but I'm so glad we decided to go here. We were all extremely happy with the meal.

Landed in Hong Kong and by the time we got to the hotel, banks were closed for exchanging dollars, so we had to pass up on many of the eateries that looked more appealing but only accept cash. It was raining and we were tired, so a quick walk around the mall brought us to this place that accepts credit cards. Upon being seated, there was a small dish of peanuts already on the table, and they automatically brought out tea. Where I come from, these are all courtesy items for all customers. Not here. They charge for every little thing w/o letting you know ahead of time. The food matches the service, underwhelming. We ordered a Shanghai fried noodle, very average and greasy. Lacked any depth of flavor until we drizzled hot sauce all over it. Also got a noodle soup with shrimp, chicken and ham. Also average. The broth tasted like salty, thick water. Finally, we ordered their house special pancakes stuffed with beef. Very small, very boring flavors. Perhaps living in the San Gabriel Valley of LA has spoiled me with outstanding food and a level of service I'm used to (ie. not nickel & dining every little thing while trying to pretend they're complimentary) Another annoying thing that a restaurant can do is stand next to me and stare while I'm signing the bill. They either have many people dine & dash or have absolutely no training in restaurant etiquette. Either way, our dinner was a mistake and I recommend people, especially visitors to steer clear. There are so many other options that appeared to be much more popular based on how many people were on line.

We got many dishes to share, and you'll think i'll find a favorite dish. The skin to the potstickers were way to think. It was more dough than meat. and the XLB wasn't much better. The issue was the skin was pretty dry too. The smoked fish dish was really pretty, and pretty it was. But it was mainly bones and barely any meat. The string beans were ok but the beans didn't taste the fresh. It had an oldish taste to it. The Shanghai noodles were way to salty, it's like they poured a bottle of soy sauce on it. If i had to pick a favorite dish, i'll prob pick the salted egg shrimp. It was fried with the shell, which i wish it wasn't. You can't really taste too much of the salted egg.

As we wandered through the mall, we noticed it housed a variety of restaurants and eateries. That's when we discovered Paradise Dynasty, a restaurant on the 2nd floor (3rd floor by U.S. standards) specializing in Shanghainese cuisine. Intrigued by all the pictures on their display, we returned that evening with our daughter, and it was love at first bite. We ended up dining there a total of four times in the nine days thereafter! The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and filled with small tables that created a cozy atmosphere. Despite the crowds, we never had to wait for a table. The staff were consistently welcoming and courteous, making each visit pleasant and hassle-free. Menus were available both via QR code and in physical form, in both Chinese and English, complete with photos of every dish, making ordering incredibly easy. One of the standout dishes was their Xiao Long Bao, soup dumplings with delicate wrappers and flavorful fillings. We highly recommend the Specialty Dynasty Xiao Long Bao, which includes eight different flavors for a fun and tasty experience. Other favorites included the La Mian with Prawn and Pork Wonton in Signature Pork Bone Soup (Wontons with Noodle Soup), a comforting bowl featuring four plump wontons and a generous serving of noodles, perfect for sharing. We also never skipped dessert: a warm bowl of ginger soup with three glutinous rice balls filled with fragrant black sesame paste. Though we were usually full, we always found room to share one glutinous rice ball each, just enough to satisfy our sweet tooth. With its convenient location, reasonable prices, varied menu, consistent quality, and great service, Paradise Dynasty quickly became our go-to restaurant in Hong Kong. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

The title of the best Peking Duck goes to Empire City Roasted Duck (大都烤鴨). This Peking duck is close, though. There's a bit of fat under the skin that they haven't melted away and the Chinese tortillas are thicker and not as delicate. The squab in wine sauce is special. Other restaurants serve meats cooked in wine sauce but prepare it with a cheaper rice wine. This place uses a nice plum wine with a deep, complex flavor. The veggies are the normal veggies cooked in garlic that most Cantonese restaurants have on the menu. The sweet and sour fish is better than the sweet and sour nightmare you'd find in the States, because the sauce is made from fresh fruits instead of sugar syrup. However, it is not the best in Hong Kong because some places serve this same fish dish with a crispy skin. Chao Yang's version has skin that was not crispy, even though the fish was pan fried. The desserts are also normal and nothing to write home about, but still good. Atmosphere (***** out of *****); Great view from the top of the world overlooking all of Hong Kong harbor. Service (***** out of *****); Waiter teams of 2 waiters will check up on you often. Conclusion (***** out of *****); Great service, great view, and really good food. This is a great place to take a first date. Be sure to book a reservation as they get really packed at night during dinner time.

If you decide on Crystal Jade, be prepared to wait. If you go before the peak lunch and dinner time, there is little to no wait, less than 5-10 mins at the most. Once you hit dinner time, the wait is an excruciating 30-45 mins, especially at the popular Times Square, IFC, and Ocean Terminal (TST) locations. I've been pretty lucky to avoid any wait at Din Tai Fung, but then maybe it's because I've only gone during the weekdays. Back to Crystal Jade, here are my must-orders: - Xiao Long Bao (4 pcs per order) 小籠包 - Dan Dan Mian 擔擔麵 - Gluten with beans and black fungus - Pork wontons in chili vinaigrette 紅油抄手 - La Mian with Deep Fried Pork Cutlets - Hot/cold soy milk 熱/冷 豆漿 I love the juiciness of the XLB at Crystal Jade, the pork filling was wrapped in a delicate dumpling skin that I found more chewy than the DTF one. Dan Dan Mian had a spicy kick with a classic peanut-vinegar-y sauce. They cut the noodles in half for you, so that it's easy to share. I do wish there was an option to add some chicken or pork to the dish. The cold soy milk comes in perfectly to counter-act the spicy DDM noodles. The fried pork cutlets surprised me. A lot of the dishes here at heavy on the carbs, and for someone who's on the lookout for protein, I decided to test my luck with this. The pork cutlets were deep fried with a marinade of curry and some paprika for color! The pairing with the La Mian was delicious with a nice contrasting light broth. The pork wontons in chili vinaigrette 紅油抄手 are what distinguish different restaurants from each other. I'd say that it's a close tie between CJ and DTF, with CJ slightly better. It was overwhelming spicy and the prawns inside were juicy.
