Of the three hotels that I stayed in during my recent HK trip, the room at the Disney Explorers Loge was the nicest. The "explorer" theme was throughout the entire hotel - even down to the elevators (which made it look like you were in a hot air balloon). When you arrive, they are extremely efficient in immediately collecting your baggage and whisking it away. We checked in early and were told that we would be notified when our room was ready - HOWEVER, if we wanted to pay extra to upgrade our room, they could immediately provide a room. We declined and opted to explore the property and the other Disney hotels. When we returned, there were several families camped out in the lobby waiting for their room. When it came close to check in time, I followed up with the front desk and they were able to give us a room. Our luggage was delivered shortly after. The room was quite spacious and the theming in the room was quite clever and tastefully done. It had all the amenities you would expect - coffeemaker, robe, slippers and various charging cables. They provide shuttle service to the park, where you can also take the MTR other destinations. We did not eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on the restaurants on the premises. I had booked online through the Hong Kong Disneyland website and forgot that It had said, "Book your hotel stay online to receive exclusive privileges-room upgrade and complimentary drink." We did not get that room upgrade (which would have saved us from waiting hours for our room) or that complimentary drink. If you book online, please make sure that they honor this. If we had been spared the wait (or at least texted when a room was available), I would have given Disney Explorers Lodge five stars. read more
Hello good people of the Yelp community! It is with great sorrow and pain that I have to submit this 3 star review for my visit to the Disney Explorers Lodge. This review is not for the faint of heart. I'll dive right into the deets, but before we start, I'll quote the warning my parents received before the airing of "Thriller" at the "Majestic Crest Theatre" on Westwood Blvd. "If you have any children attending with you under the age of 13, you may want to escort them to the lobby at this time." My initial impression for my experience at the property was a one star review. I know! That's crazy! It's blaspheme! It's pure heresy to depict my beloved Disney brand in a negative light. Like a Yelp Tinker Bell, I wish I could just sprinkle fairy dust on my initial impression of The Disney Explorers Lodge in Hong Kong. And just so it's clear, this is only a review of the Hotel and not the Park! In fact the park was totes fab! Like it was the bees knees or the cats meow! Upon arriving at the property at about the worst possible hour on the worst possible day of the year, we were greeted with an enormous line. I get it, I get it. What else would I expect on a day like this day! Actually we were waiting in 2 lines. My initial inner monologue was like "There has to be a better system in place." My family and I love and adore the Disney brand. But even on a holiday, there has to be a better or more prepared reaction to arriving guests. Yes, even if Half of Honk Kong arrives at the same time on the same day! One line was for keys and one for guests checking in. We were a bit confused by the situation. Maybe I'm a novice, but there's should be some hosts or Cast Members greeting guests with a smile and maybe some directions or maybe a cup of water and high five from Explorer Goofy! In any case, it took about an hour to get to the front of the lines. And being the sharp detective that I am, we figured out that the longer line was for guest who had checked in earlier and didn't have a room assigned to them yet! No, but really, someone should like be directing people to the right place. Like for serious! Once we had our room assigned, we could start enjoying the grounds. The property is the newest at HKD and as the title implies it has a world explorer meets Disney kinda vibe. There's a couple of themed gift shops, a terrific pool area and a few food options that I'll get into later. The elevator that took us up had a hot air ballon inspired motif and this might be the only place in the world where that's both acceptable and to be expected. We stepped into the room and the first thing I noted was that the hardwood area near the front looked yucky! There were definitely stains or goop stuck on the floor. Maybe there was an altercation between a couple ducks before we got in or something like that. I'm not sure, but it looked unpleasant to me. Next item, after putting our stuff down, we found what seemed to be a hair by the folded towel in front of our shower area. I can deduce that it was not my hair or my sons hair as he has little of it by choice and I have less than that by the hands of time and old age. In didn't match anyone in our party in fact. Is that the end of the world? No, it's not. But it is a little gross, you follow? Fortunately, the free Wi-Fi kicked in so daddy could get a dose of zone out time on the Webernet. Three free agents later in Fantasy Baseball and some Rotoworld, I was a new man ready enjoy the fun beyond the walls. I really was expecting more to go wrong, but after my nightmarish check in process and finding my room to be in less than tip top shape, everything else seemed to correct itself back to the Disney standard I expect. The grounds were fun to walk through and while it's a fairly new property, there were not tons of thing to do. All the restaurants, shops and activity areas looked clean and were staffed with friendly and helpful people. While it may not be normal to buy a $7 hot chocolate anywhere else, my onsite hot chocalate was served with ice cream, chocolate cereal and chocolate mouse ears that might be affiliated with a certain icon. In fact our pizza was delicious and came with corn soup and the creamy pasta was also tasty and can you guess? It came with a side of corn soup! Point is, the food tasted good and the hotel, however unprepared for our arrival rush, still had something positive to offer. I think the goof (get it) could have been avoided with better communication up front. And there could have been some compensation for the wait time. I'm not talking money, but maybe an extra character visit or some cheap swag. I love me some Disney swag! It really does make everything better! My overall impression was ok. From my perspective, there is room for improvement. I enjoyed the perks or staying at a HKG hotel, but a more thorough room inspection would have made all the difference in the world. read more

Disney's Explorer's Lodge is the newest resort hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and it fills the lower tier of Disney's resorts hotels in Hong Kong. The flagship Disneyland Hotel and the hipper Hollywood Hotel. Explorer's Lodge is more of the budget friendly and family friendly choice in the threesome. The whole experience starts at arrival. The hotel staff is proactive in meeting you at the curb. We took a taxi from HKG and was met right at the car. They will grab your bags and bring it into the check-in location for you. The front desk was pleasant without being overly Disney friendly...which is a good thing. The resort is divided into wings based on the regions of the world that you can explore and the outside of the hotel structure will resemble that. We were in the Africa wing. There are several elevators up to the guest rooms so it's likely you'll get lost, but not to worry the numbers are clearly numbered. The rooms are standard Disney which means they are big for Hong Kong. All rooms are furnished with two queen beds with a separate bath area and standup showers. All rooms are furnished with a safe, coffee maker, coffee, tea and cups. The bathroom has your traditional H2O Disney toiletries that you would find at all Disney resorts. The beds are soft by Asian standards, but still on the firmer side. We weren't lucky enough to have a sea view room, but we did get a great view of the fireworks so it's not all bad. The hotel has three dining options. Dragon Wind is the main dining room which has a festive buffet for breakfast and lunch and Chinese and regional specific dishes for dinner. World of Color which is a combination a la carte/buffet for breakfast, high tea and a mixed of Eastern and Western cuisine for dinner. Then there is the cafe which offers a mix of Eastern and Western fare all through the day...although some of the options were a little bizarre. However, the desserts at the cafe does look delicious. I will say the one thing the hotel lacks is amenities. It has a pool, but that's about it. Although at check-in you are informed that you have access to the amenities at the other two hotels, which includes pool, hot tub, water slide, spa treatments and tennis courts, but in reality the set up isn't really conducive to that use. The hotel does give you access to each hotel through the walk on the South China Sea side, but the set up is so awkward that it actually takes longer to get from one resort to the other using this access, therefore the use of other amenities is really moot point. In fact, expert advice: use the front access as it's a lot closer between each property. There is a shuttle bus that runs between the resort hotels and the park which drops you off at the transportation hub. It's also where you can catch the MRT into Hong Kong or Kowloon. You'll take it from the Disneyland Station into Sunny Bay and then transfer there either into town or to the airport. The hotel is on fairly close and conveniently located to HKG Airport. You can access either via the MRT or via a taxi which would be my suggestion as it's a lot quicker and more convenient. However, if you were in the city I would suggest otherwise as you can catch the MRT to either Hong Kong Station or Kowloon Station and catch the Airport Express which is about a 20/25 minute ride with WiFi access. All in all, I think the hotel is a nice addition to the Hong Kong lodging scene. Prices seem to hover around the $200 or so, which oddly enough puts it on the lower to middle rung of the price scale in Hong Kong. I would say an extra would include the addition of more amenities and more convenient access points to the other hotels. read more

Pro: New, shiny, English speaking staffs, shuttle to the park. Quick taxi ride from HKG to the location. Con: Some serious staff training issues with the World of Color Restaurant. I been wanting to stay at this resort every since it was under construction, walked thru it the first it when it opened. This place is basically the Grand Californian remixed with Animal Kingdom Lodge on a smaller scale. Finally stayed here for a quick 26 hours layover and have to say the place is worth the $400 a night charge. Speedy check in service at 10 am, dropped our stuff offer with the luggage folks and went into the park until 8 pm. Nothing wrong at all. World of Color Restaurant - I kind of blacked out for a second when the staff left the regular knives when they brought over the steak knives for the tomahawk steak. Umm... so is this place fine dining or not? The fruit bar is self served, but there really isn't any signage, we had to ask a staff to see what we are grabbing is actually for us. Earl Grey tea was of normal, hard to get a staff to refill the water or hot water. Seafood chowder was actually pretty good. The tomahawk steak came out rare when we ordered medium well, that was quickly fixed upon retry. Rasp grapefruit martini didn't make since at all, skip it. Dragon Wind - Mickey and Minnie character dining breakfast. OMG, the food was good. Like, why don't we have food like this in DL or WDW good? Fresh, and I mean seconds fresh dim sum, live noodle and egg station. Random British breakfast fare and Chinese rice porridge, weird cereal and waffles for the kids. The characters were mobbed by little kids once they came out, as expected, but it the intelligent ticket system the restaurant deployed was a good way to keep things in control. One ticket per table to use for picture taking with Mickey and Minnie, so line up when possible. The bathroom have a lounge area for people to sit, which is nice and weird at the same time. I would want to come back for dinner in the future. read more

Overall, I had a great experience at this beautiful hotel. The property is stunning, with elegant design and a welcoming ambiance. However, there were a couple of small things that didn't quite meet my expectations. First, I wasn't a fan of the strong, perfumey scent in the lobby. While it may be pleasant to some, it felt a bit overpowering when you first walk in. We dropped off our luggage upon arrival, and the process was quick and efficient. The check-in was smooth as well when we returned later in the evening. The deluxe room was spacious, which was a big plus. The bed was relatively comfortable, although not the softest I've ever experienced. Still, it made for a good night's sleep. One of the best things was how easy it was to get to Hong Kong Disneyland--the shuttle arrived within 10 minutes, making it super convenient for park visits. One area for improvement would be food options. While there are on-site dining options, I would have appreciated more budget-friendly choices. A nearby convenience store or something more casual for snacks would have been a great addition. Overall, this hotel was a wonderful place to stay for a Disney trip, with just a couple of small things I'd love to see improved. read more
