Heard about it from my friend who is residing in Hong Kong. The must to try list (according to her) was the toasts. Long queue was formed on a Sunday around 2pm. We waited for about half an hour before we were seated. Gave Teawood's handmade scallion noodles and the brown sugar Sun Moon Lake Formosa black tea with salted cream. And of course the famous toast with chocolate ice cream. I was craving dry noodles so the pasta like handmade noodles were perfect. I love fried scallions but it was a little too much for me as it sticks together in the tongue. The noodles were chewy and I enjoyed every slurp of it. The salted cream tea was alright. Would prefer it to have more foam on the top and less ice. Toasts.. Amazing! It was not too sweet for my tastebuds even though chocolate ice cream with marshmallow bits on top of fluffy yet crispy toasts with drizzled honey sounds too sweet. Service was efficient and will definitely come back in the future ;)

Having made plans in Kowloon City for the afternoon, we decided to stop by Banh Mi Bakery for a quick lunch. It had been on our list for some time. At opening, 11:30am, it wasn't too full yet but there were already dining parties seated to beat the lunch rush. They have a board with several banh mi options, listing the top 5 favorites. We opted for the slow-cooked (sous vide) pork and pate banh mi with iced Vietnamese coffee, along with lemongrass chicken, BBQ pork with cold rice vermicelli. Everything tasted delicious and the pork was very tender. But it wasn't a "wow" in my book. A banh mi sandwich to cost HKD144 (USD18) to me, is quite overpriced and expensive. Considering the location is not in Central or in the CBD, nor is it a high-end restaurant, it shouldn't cost more than HKD80-100 (including a drink) at most. Perhaps it's making up for the lost sales due to the Covid slow down, but a high price might drive more customers away than attract them.

Don't let the giant queue scare you, and yes there is almost always a queue. Despite that, it moves fairly fast. Its definitely not a place where you sit and chat with your friends. They expect you to sit down, order right away, eat it, and leave right away. But I guess many popular places are like that around Hong Kong.. Seating-wise its very cramp here. You'll be sitting basically elbow to elbow with strangers next and behind you. But that doesn't matter because their desserts are so wonderful! Some of my favorites are the tong yuen (glutinous rice balls) that come come with peanut sauce. The one that comes in the ginger soup is good too (for this dish, the balls have fillings inside, such as sesame or peanut sauce). Another good one is their sorbets, which are perfect for a hot day.

Heyyyy, do you like durian? Or even want to give it a shot despite the crazy smell it may emit or…read morethe odd taste it might exude? I believe one of the ways to try durian without having to be afraid of it is by tasting it through the various dessert dishes here at this cute little place. Having no idea that this place existed, I was pretty thankful to my new local friend who suggested this place. It's located in a small little street, similar to an alley way, and by the time you get near it, you'll definitely see a long line of people waiting to get in. The wait itself isn't that bad. Most people just come here to eat dessert and leave right after. Once seated, my friends and I spent some time browsing through the extensive dessert menu and settled on trying the durian with crystal seeds (one of the many popular dishes) and watermelon and lychee with crystal seeds. In summary, the watermelon and lychee were ok. The watermelon ended up being too watery for my taste and the lychee wasn't too memorable. Both tasted decent but definitely not a must try. For the durian, this was surprisingly good! I am normally not a durian fan (the stench gets to me sometime) but here, you couldn't really smell too much of the durian in the dish. The taste of durian was also soften quite a bit, making this dish a bit more doable for those who do not like durian. I found this dish to be pretty tasty and not too sweet and it was unique to eat it with the crystal seeds. Overall, this is a great spot to stop by for desserts. If you're not a fan of durian but can tolerate the smell of it wafting through the restaurant, this place is great to try other HK desserts at an affordable price.

It was dead empty except for two other tables (one with two tourists and the other with a local man...I assume). Two other tourists sat down during my brunch but read the menu and left. I ordered the waffles with ham and it came with a side salad. The food was OK. It was an HK take on western food and the waffles came plain with no topping so it was a little bit dry for my North American palette. Towards the end of my meal I discovered a live slug in my salad. I flagged the waitress to ask for the bill (because I was NOT going to continue eating) and showed her the slug. She said "oh sorry" but that was about it. She did not offer any kind of compensation and brought me the full bill with no further explanation or apology for the slug. It was like it didn't happen. As mentioned before this place was empty for brunch. However, in the late, late afternoon/early evenings I noticed it would be packed. Perhaps this place is better for coffee and dessert. One other thing to mention is they have free wifi but when you ask for the password they won't give it to you. They will insist they enter it on your phone themselves. I don't generally like strangers touching my phone because I don't know what they may do. I guess they have never thought of changing the wifi password daily... Tip: Don't sit next to the plants. It's fruit fly city.
