This was one of my parents' old favourites. They are famous for their "bo chai fan", clay pot rice, which they used to cook right in front of the restaurant, on the side of the streets, so you can look at the process with wonders, wondering how they never manage to burn the rice, and how the rice cooked evenly. When I last went, they no longer do the clay pot rice outside. I hope it is a temporary thing, because I felt like the quality took a dent as well. The clay pot rice still smell wonderful, but the ingredients felt a bit subpar, and the quantity went down as well. It is especially obvious with the soy sauce, where it's not sweetened and lacked the umami of natural fermentation. Since the soy sauce is such a big part of this dish, it almost ruined the rest of the ingredients. I'm still nostalgic for what they were - and other dishes are still good (try the fish balls and tofu soup, also in a clay pot). I just hope this last visit was just a temporary change. read more

It's a super old place and my aunt was worried I wouldn't like how old it looked. But to me it looked like any other HK restaurant, I don't find it any dirtier. THE SERVICE. WAS SO GOOD! They actually spoke to me in English because it was clear to them I cannot speak Cantonese. Well, in my defence, I actually spoke to them in Cantonese. They responded in English. But I couldn't read the menu. And they were worried that I take way too long to decide my Rice Pot. RICE POT 101 This restaurant's specialty is cooking rice (plus toppings) in a clay pot. They make it fresh on the spot for you, so as HK-style goes, they need to know your clay pot order asap. So they can start cooking it for you. It's very considerate, if you think about it. When the clay pot arrives, let it sit for a few more minutes. Then pour the soy sauce into the pot, and let it sit again for a few more minutes. IF YOU CANNOT READ THE MENU 1) pick your meat: chicken, pork, beef, fish 2) and then maybe like "with a light sauce" or "something delicious with beef" I'm sure they'll figure out for you. Because that's the vibe I got. They're really nice to us! For my visit, my aunt already knew what she's getting. We ordered the ginger chicken. It was ok, it's not the best clay pot ever but it's adequate and we will definitely come again. The cooked rice that's touching the inside of the pot was not crazily burned, so you can scrape the rice without feeling too unhealthy. They also make congee and noodles. We ordered pork hand and noodles. The egg noodles were surprisingly delicious also!!!! Not soggy noodles and yucky pork. read more
