One of the main reasons for me to want to try claypot rice is the crispy rice, but all three claypots' rice had no crisp in it. Because of the volume, they just dish out the products as fast as possible and reduce the quality of the product. In my opinion, this place is overhyped, and overpriced. We ordered many of their classic dishes including the Kin's smoked chicken, fried thousand-year-old egg with pickled ginger, stir-fried lion-head fish fillet with lettuce shoot, seasonal lamb pot, pomelo peel with vegetables and mushroom, fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausages, etc. The best dish was definitely their signature smoked chicken. The lion-head fish is generally rare to find and hard to cook, yet they made the dish simple but spectacular. In terms of the decor, the restaurant has many interesting things if you look around. There are some small fish tanks in bird cages hanging in the restaurant. There are also many photo portraits which were taken by the owner, Mr. Lau Kin Wai. In case you don't know, Mr. Lau was a former art-critic and food-writer. It's not a surprise that the interior design of his restaurant is filled with art. The waiters seemed unenthusiastic and often would place the next dish without a word or a simple phrase like "dessert" without any additional comments or explanation... and often had a tense or unfriendly expression. It was also difficult to get their attention as they were often times hard to locate. Yes this is Hong Kong, but this is not a cha chaan teng, and i guess I expected a bit more quality in service and food from a former michelin starred restaurant.

It was so good that I have been there at least 3 times during my 1 month visit! They have set menu as well as you can order individual items. The set menu is slightly cheaper, but the perks is that you can order drinks at discounted price! Their soy milk drink taste really good and it is at only $5 (as compared to $15 regular price) if you have the set menu items. We tried both types of wontons and we prefer the one with wood ear more. We also tried their beef tendon, which is huge portion and taste pretty good. I will definitely return next time when I visit!

Like most things Dim Sum in Hong Kong, ordering here is exclusively a la carte. Their version of char siu bbq pork (叉燒) is among the tastier experiences I've had in Kowloon, for it juicy, nicely charred on the outside, and even has a sweet finish since it's sitting in a bath of juice. Their har gau (蝦餃) may look standard but it's hardly case when one takes a bite: succulent juices remain within a nicely soft, pillow like texture of the dumpling skin, and the natural flavor of the shrimp reigns surpreme. My mouth gets watery just thinking about it. Other standouts include their turnip cake (蘿蔔糕), tofu skin roll (腐皮捲), and a surprisingly very good Teochew dumpling (潮州粉粿). I haven't had too many amazing renditions of the latter, but the impression was too real. Their lotus wrapped glutinous rice (糯米雞) was so stupid good that I was actually sad to know they ran out after 12:30pm.
