Great and quick service…read more Ordered a coffee to go that was prepped efficiently and really good. Try the dolce a lata coffee here for a sweet treat that is high in calories but wonderful flavors. I appreciate the use of traditional expression machines Liz they have a beast dual unit that a good barista can leverage to put out a number of drinks quickly. We did come in fairly early in the day so the foot traffic was limited appreciated the break from tea. In my opinion better than Starbucks.

Moccato is a small little cafe in Novotel Citygate, but is actually in the Tung Chung outlet mall…read more I was there today and walked past it twice - both times, it was pretty packed. Finally, after dinner, my mother and I suggested that we have some coffee before heading home and by then, the cafe was much emptier. Actually, about two hours ago we had gone in and looked at what they had to offer - there were a couple of salad wraps that looks pretty good. When we were back after dinner, all the wraps had been sold out! Not that we would have wanted one anyway though - we were too full. Their cakes were surprisingly not too expensive. We got a blueberry cheesecake that was $28, and a mango pudding that for some reason was only $18! It wasn't super tiny, so I felt it was suspiciously cheap. We also got a medium hot latte to share. Both cakes were pretty good - I was skeptical about the mango pudding and thought that there would be something gravely wrong with it, but it was not bad at all - the pudding was nice and mango-ey. I liked the cheesecake better though; it was very creamy and light, and the mix of blueberry jam and blueberries on top was a nice complement to the cheesecake. My mother really liked the cheesecake and said that we should definitely get it it we are back the next time. Unfortunately, the latte was a bit of a let-down - it wasn't hot enough, and any coffee that is just merely warm is no good to me. If you're spending a day at the outlets, a coffee break really is necessary and Moccato is as good as it gets. There's a good variety of salads, like smoked salmon and roast chicken, and the wraps looked great too. The cakes are great, and inexpensive too compared to other cafés, and it was just a pity that the coffee wasn't served hot enough. Don't give Moccato a miss if you're here - your tired, all-shopped-out legs, and your taste buds (and your wallet if you're getting a cake!) will thank you!

Friendly service in an over-touristed destination…read more Best way in is by boat - otherwise, it's a ten minute walk through the back streets of Tai O. We asked our dolphin tour driver to drop us here, which he had no problems doing. Either way in, it's an interesting arrival! The proprietor - Julia - is super friendly, and courteous to the point of self-effacing. She went through the menu - limited, but simple and appealing - and made clear that if we weren't happy we didn't have to pay. Simple rather HK-fied pizzas with Thousand Island dressing as a topping on one of the choices. Beer, soft drinks and tea/coffee, along with some tasty home made juices and drinks. The prices were high for what we got, but it was great to find a clean, comfortable and scenic viewpoint from which to wrap up our visit to Tai O.

Only stop here for tea/beer. Food is no good; I counted 6 microwaves and you can tell they're used…read morefor everything on the menu. Pizza, fish cakes, etc. Speaking of food...this "restaurant" is located in a fishing village, and there is nothing local nor seafood to eat?! Just because you can practically follow to gweilo walking through the street to-and-from this tourist trap, doesn't mean you should expect anything other than a good fleecing upon arrival. Kitschy at best. Nope

And I think that I have found the best there is (well, in my opinion that is). Wah Kee Seafood Restaurant in the Mui Wo cooked food centre is brilliant. Sure, it serves the same menu as every other joint in the place, standard fare including such delights as; deep fried salt and pepper squid, steam fish, sweet and sour fish, salt roasted chicken, fried noodles, salt fish rice, the list goes on. However, it just serves it better. The dishes are really well prepared, well seasoned, and, importantly, thoroughly cooked. It looks like the food is prepared by a single chef, and can he both cook and expedite fast! The restaurant is usually pretty busy of an evening, and he still manages to get the food out in a timely fashion. The venue itself is not the prettiest. You are in a cooked food market, and you will be sat on plastic stools at a plastic table with plastic bags as a table cloth. Remember my two rules, always rinse your crockery (fortunately, most of the table are placed over a drain which runs the length of the outdoor seating area, so you can pour your dregs directly into the drain), and never look in the kitchen. This venue actually has an open kitchen, so you can see what is going on - oh, yes, it's fine! Staff here are generally good, they are impatient with me (looking like a native but speaking like the Queen of England), but are fine with my ex-pat buddies. I think it's more a fascination with them when the Chinese guy speaks English, the Welsh woman speaks Canto, and the American/Swede speak Mandarin - they just didn't get it, haha! There is an English menu which has decent translations in it. Oh, they occasionally wheel out the youngest of their family to help serve, which is hilarious when you see a 6 year old wandering through the restaurant with a tray of Blue Girls. If you are not to precious about your surrounding, are happy to order using hand signals, and want a decent feed for little money, come here. Last night's dinner for five, which included beer and all of the above and more, only cost HKD200 per head. They even looked confused when we left a tip!
