Situated in a corner section of the Fung Yau Street South that is now famed for its variety of restaurants, Chow Chow boasts western dishes at local prices. The menu does change daily though you will always find a steak of some sort and the cream of mushroom soup (a must try) is always available. If the heavier items are causing issues with your waistline then there are also the choices of salads and at times, Japanese bentos (though this is not always on the menu). It has both indoor and outdoor seating whereby your four legged companions are welcomed on the outside portion. Inside it has a calm atmosphere and a huge wall-to-wall photo of the aforesaid canines of which the restaurant is named after. Service is quick but for a reason: they do ask you to return the table at a set time and this may not be to the liking of some. Also an issue is that it is a victim of its own success- getting a table on busy days (e.g. weekends) demands the patience of a saint and service quality is also suffers accordingly. Advice is to go on weekdays and enjoy the dishes which on the island will cost you double or more. Parking is limited and most patrons simply park on the side of the street, though do be prepared to run out to your pride and joy half way through your dinner as the 5-0 come knocking issuing tickets (which could put a real damper on a nice dinner).

At the end of each sip, you'll taste the bitter/acidity of the coffee. It is iced coffee after all, so definitely not for those black coffee lover that demand a cup of sour. Presented with an array of tasty looking cake, I couldn't resist but to get a chocolate cake as recommended by the barista. Super chocolatey chocolate cake, a layer of ganache, mousse, and sponge cake, topped with cocoa powder. Quite the delight for chocolate lovers, and it's not outrageously sweet given all the layers. Pairing the two together, there's a small disconnect in flavour - more a personal preference. I think a cheesecake or yuzu cake may help accentuate the flavour of the drink. I could just imagine how the acidity may compliment each other. Ambience is decent, you can still read a book in peace although there is always crowds passing by being in the open space of a mall. Speciality drinks cost a bit more but I think it's worth the price for the craft. There're a few other speciality drinks and cakes that pique my sinful indulgence so I'll come here again before my trip ends this times.

Nevertheless, the line was still super long that one would get a number and wait before a sip of coffee. Menu was simple, espresso or milk coffee. I opted for the iced latte, perfect for the hot weather. The latte was as balanced as a piece of silk, yet never too thick to swallow. Also liked the temperature of the drink, very considerate. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule.
