They're a family run business, which is pretty rare for Hong Kong these days. The built in mapping function in Yelp is also great especially when you're traveling and trying to figure out where things are from your hotel. This was especially helpful since I was not familiar with Hong Kong. Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine restaurant is within a short walking distance to my hotel, The Salisbury YMCA. The restaurant is on the second level of Harbor City mall. Even though I was alone, I was immediately greeted by smiling and very well-dressed staff in traditional Thai silk clothing. The restaurant has about 40 tables. Plenty of four and two tops. Decor is a nice soft and clean contemporary style. I was seated immediately during dinner hours. They have a nice wine list and plenty of choices in the menu. The menus have English language translations for all items. I was definitely ready for some softshell crab and it was on the menu. My dishes came out one by one from the kitchen, were served at the proper temperature, and well presented. I could tell the dishes were all prepared with care and perfect amounts of seasoning. The deep-fried, lightly breaded softshell crab appetizer was perfect. The prawn Penang curry with steamed rice was one of the best I've ever had. My taste buds and tummy were very happy. Service was cheerful and attentive. My bill came in at roughly $57 US after converting from Hong Kong dollars. My credit card was cheerfully accepted here. In summary, I highly recommend this restaurant for excellent Thai food, great service, and nice atmosphere. Next time I'm in Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui) I will definitely get my Thai cuisine fix here.

Everything we had was flavorful and tasted like the kind of Thai food you'd find in Thailand. I also loved the decor. The restaurant has such a strong Thai aesthetic that you really feel immersed in the experience rather than sitting in a typical Thai restaurant in Hong Kong. Prices are definitely on the pricier side, but I didn't regret spending a little more here. The food was good, the atmosphere was great and the whole experience felt worth it. Samsen will always be a recommendation I give to anyone craving great Thai food. The combination of authentic flavors and the beautiful setting makes them stand out.

This place has good value for money. Average spending per person is no more than $250. Besides all the regular Thai food like deep-fried prawn cakes and fish cakes, satay skewers, pad Thai and fried rice, the must-eats here are the Tom Yum Soup or coconut chicken soup and the oyster omelette. The oyster omelette has some of the freshest oysters in it. As for drinks, they're one of the few restaurants in HK that serves Thai iced tea. It's not the best I've tried but it definitely satisfies my occasion craving for it. Thai Simple Kitchen has an outdoor area which is great when the weather is not too hot or too cold. It could have gotten a five-star review but on my recent visit, I felt that they had a shortage of staff and it's often hard to call for a waiter especially when your table is at the back corner of the restaurant. All in all, the food is delicious and of great value. Definitely recommended especially for groups.

I saw this spot, saw people in it and figured, why not. The prices were certainly reasonable, particularly as the lunch menu offers some deals. The folks who run the place are certainly quite nice, and after some consultation with the server, I took his recommendation for green curry with chicken. We have a very good Thai food scene in Los Angeles, and while I assumed it would be good here in Hong Kong, unfortunately this was a bit of a disappointment (I was later told by an HK foodie that the Thai food is in fact better in LA). The first thing that put me off was the chicken. It may be that chicken here at the smaller places tends to use more "humble" cuts than we're used to in the States, with fat and skin attached, and there was something a little strange about the texture to me. While I've never seen cauliflower in a green curry--there were also string beans--it was certainly fine. But the other problem was green curry itself. It just didn't have a ton of flavor. Maybe they figured "white guy, let's make it super bland," but even if it's not spicy--and I told them medium was fine--it should still be flavorful. So even though everyone here was nice and the food was certainly reasonable in price, it's hard to say things were A-OK when this dish unfortunately was a bit lacking.
