I'm a view lover and this one shows a sweeping swath of Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, and out to Wan Chai on one side and North Point on the other. Despite the flashing lights of the CWB billboards right overhead, or perhaps because of them, it feels like it's floating in the middle of that darkly urban cityscape that typifies so much of HK. If you throw in the bars with good view, either from inside a tall building, or an outdoor podium, you'll have Aqua, Felix, Cafe Grey, Red @ IFC, Armani/Prive, Hooray, etc. There are certainly more than enough for you to choose from. This bar has everything they promise, and nothing more than that. They have a 270 degree view from the HK side, overseeing North Point to Happy Valley, with the whole Kowloon under your view. It is nothing less of amazing. It is a rooftop, as promised too, which you'll see a massive billboard behind you, written "MIDTOWN", which is the name of this new building. It is a bar, it gives you alcohol. It's "by Harlan Goldstein", too, just like the Penthouse right down stairs. But don't expect more than that. It doesn't have DJ or live band here, nor proper washroom - you have to go back downstairs. The rooftop is rather big, but tables and seats are only filled half of it, probably because they don't have the personnel or infrastructure to serve the whole floor yet. And they are interesting lack of a good crowd - there are empty tables always available. I can't imagine any of those rooftop bars I mentioned above would be less busy than a full house, but hey, if I can have the view all by my own and not have to fight for it, I'm definitely not complaining. All in all, it is a very new bar, so everything is still developing, including the crowd. I'm sure it will get busier soon. As for bigger meals, I would recommend their laksa which - although not as good as my own ha ha - is pretty satisfying with prawns, bean sprouts, a boiled egg, fishcakes and tofu. Their sandwiches and burgers aren't half bad either. Ashamed to say it but although this IS a self-proclaimed wine bar, I haven't tried their wine list. I feel like a lot of people who go here are, like me, swept away by the (usually hot, sunny) day and prefer an ice cold beer in the open air to a heavy bottle of red. The venue was also really responsive on WhatsApp, answering all of my questions very quickly. The place was a little hard to find. My cab dropped me off nearby and a passerby was able to help me find the exact building. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. It's classy, sexy, shrouded in a bit of mystery... something like a speakeasy. The evening's performances were fantastic! The musicians played a range of hits that appealed to a broad audience (which was great because there was a little of everyone in the room that evening). The servers were attentive and kind, and their service had a personalized touch which I really appreciated, especially since I had just landed in the country barely 2 hours prior and didn't know a soul there. The staff really made me feel welcome and helped set the tone for the rest of my visit to Hong Kong. I saw lots of gorgeous cocktails adorning tables around me, but I was there for the prosecco. Glass after glass of ice cold bubbles... And the staff made sure I never had an empty glass. I had an absolutely wonderful time here. Even we have a bit problem to ask them over for ordering. The preparation time for the food is also very long time compared to other hotel restaurants. The good side is the portion and taste. Portion is huge, and taste is good. They also didn't remind us for complimentary tea or coffee. By the time we finished, there were lots of people for afternoon tea or drinks. Follow up with the complaint on the service and the preparation food time, the manager invited us back to the Lobby Lounge for afternoon tea. We worked through lunch hour and decided to have the high tea here. I like the Shangri La high tea, it is bountiful with trimmed finger sandwiches, scones and petit fours. Just right if you missed lunch! Good choice of teas, I like the strong tie kwanyin. And service is excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Best part is the view out to the harbor or in to the people. That day the Hong Kong Tourist Bureau junk sailed across and back. Shangri La and the other hotel at the end of the promenade have the best and most frequent views of this ubiquitous junk. A wonderful and unique experience in Hongkong.

The beers are cheap and you get freebie snacks to go with them. There is music and a jukebox to entertain as you down the drinks and wile away the time. Lobster Bar is special. Not only is it located in Island Shangri-La hotel (which screams high end customer service), but Lobster Bar takes unique great pride in their establishment as a Taj Mahal of crafted cocktails in Hong Kong. A friend of mine back in Las Vegas told me that this bar was on a Top 10 list she recently read about. Being a full time martini drinker who takes a vacation from my beverage of choice in the summer time, I was blown away by my experience with their crafted cocktails at Lobster Bar last night. The ambiance of the Lobster Bar that spills into the well-appointed Lobster Grill is welcoming. Light blues, detailed stained glass windows, hard woods, maroons, great lighting...everything is there to enjoy your time at the bar or in one of their comfy couches. After ordering our two drinks, be prepared for a little wait time. Not because the bartender is busy with throngs of customers, but because of the time, care and preparation that goes into making these special concoctions. Really quite special a special craft. We enjoyed a Genever Smash and a Lemon Sherbet Bishop. Order a drink, take a sip and then ask to relook at the drink menu to see the ingredients. The ingredients and flavors come to life when you see them and then consume them at the same time. I realize that booze is a time old tradition shared by millions across the world.
