The food counters are way better than Wellcome and Park n Shop because they have so much to offer! I enjoy coming to this location right off the Kowloon Tong MTR station inside Festival Walk shopping mall. There are no seats to eat inside the market but feel free to bring all your goods upstairs to the food court where you can enjoy them instead. There are sections for Japanese snacks, wine, and other imported products for those who want something different. The line is usually long but moves pretty fast, especially if you're paying via Octopus. Overall a nice market with several unique options.

I still come here for some quality food and snacks, which you can't get them elsewhere. The chocolate, in particular, does that little something to me and I always have to come back for more. I like Mark & Spencer when they sell simplicity. Take the wine buyers in the M&S. The got the best wine buying team. They may not get the most premium / expensive kinds of wine, but they always get wine expressing the most signature of the region. You can taste the Chardonnay at Chablis, Sauvignon Blanc at NZ, etc. which outline the exact characteristics you read on the textbooks. Same goes for the food. The may not be the best "Grass Fed Organic Beef", but they always have these decent, fresh choices of food for you. My complaint? Damn the air-con is freezing 24/7. Seriously. I didn't even walk through the whole shop to-date yet just because how cold it is. And this is from a local who's spoiled by the indoor aircon for more than 30 years.

Just off the esco at Hollywood Road road, Marks and Spencer Food is; first, probably the coldest place in Hong Kong (come on guys, refrigerate the food, not the entire shop!), second, the best place to get British comfort food that you can cook at home. M&S is basically a fancy grocery store, where all the food is imported from the UK, except the bread which is made in store. It sells a variety of ready meals, sandwiches, fresh and dry pastas, cook at home pizzas, sliced and packaged meats, pies, you get the idea. The freshest thing is the bread and some packaged fruits, as in they don't sell veggies or raw meats like Wellcome. This particular store has a small window seating area, and they do make coffee, so you can have your packed lunch (bought in store, obviously) there. The food there is not cheap, airfares being what they are now, but sometimes you just need a Melton Mowbray pork pie, and no other will do. It's interesting to see how such a staple of the UK has become a luxury brand in HK, but most importantly I can now get a cook at home lamb shank. At least that's Christmas dinner sorted this year! For my local friends, you should visit, just to see how we Brits wine and dine at home. For my UK friends, come and get a pie - it's all good. And with the AC cranked to the max, it will feel like winter in Newport...

The butcher will butcher whole hogs right in the open. Chopping a head off or a leg off the hog. Placing the chopped pieces onto hinging hooks for display. The fish guys slices open whole fish to display it's innards. Skinning live toads per order. And then there are customers in the clothes boutique across the walkway sorting through the new arrivals. There are plenty of small restaurant stalls or sit down/waiter service restaurants to choose from. From HK BBQ pork and duck to dim sum. It's all here. Bring cash!!

This is probably one of the better places to get food in the immediate vicinity, and is also a very fun place to walk around. It's very manageable, while having a variety of food vendors, ranging from the ordinary HK fare to the extraordinary (I would describe one of the stalls as selling post-modern kimchi). I got a claypot rice with chicken feet and pork ribs (though there was no clay pot). There was nowhere to sit, so I went not too far outside and found a concrete stoop to sit on. They have lots of deli and seafood that you can buy and take it up to the food court area on the top floor of the mall and eat. You can find anything from caviar, fresh oysters, foie gras, truffle, to wagyu beef for shabu shabu and steak, king crab, and all kinds of sushi! I was there for their fresh oysters on the half shell. They have many top tier oysters from France including Belon 0000 ($45hkd = ~$5.5usd) and Gillardeau ($32hkd = ~$4usd). I got one of each for a total of 4 different kinds. The store employee will open the oysters for you. There was a single stand up round table that you can enjoy your oysters. If I stay in HK longer I would have got and eaten so many oysters at TASTE!

Beware to those who are carb monsters! Every year that I come back to Hong Kong, I try to make a trip to the Great Food Hall to stock up on Tim Tams. Yes, they do have Australia's favorite cookie along with any other chocolate/sweet treat that you can imagine from around the world. They have sushi, Italian eats and Japanese treats. They have fresh produce and ... did I say they have everything? They have everything. Literally all food treats that you can imagine. I might suggest not coming here when you're hungry otherwise you're going to be filling your cart with calorie intense foods. I mean, I guess there's nothing wrong with that if you're looking to put on some weight!

On the ground level you'll find meat and fish. The meat is pre-chopped and hung while much of the seafood is still alive and swimming - fresh! I tend to head straight upstairs. Up here there are loads of fresh veg to chose from (not much English spoken by vendors, but that's fairly standard at wet markets so I just buy what I recognise) as well as dried fish, spices and the like. If your dinner is of the fancy, party variety, you can also pick up some fresh flowers for the table. I can never get over how cheap they are here (my husband dosen't know I know this - but I since it's the thought that counts I still award full brownie points) - HKD86 for 15 blooms and some greenery. You'll also find clothing and Manchester, sweets and watch repairmen, clothing alterations and a large stall selling red packets and incense.

My sister ended up getting this HKD$200 whole chicken that supposed to be raised locally free range and just slaughtered in the morning. Fancy place to shop. This place is really popular for the lunch crowd as eating options in the area don't meet the demand. They expanded the made to order and hot food, which now includes a more international selection. In addition to the salad bar you can have Korean, Japanese, Chinese and South East Asian options. None of these are particularly good, but are prices below the restaurants outside and taste is ok. The salad bar is still the best option here and is one of the few places in the area where you can get a salad. The supermarket overall is quite good. Pricing is on the high side but it has a good selection of produce, meat, seafood and international products. The alcohol, chocolate, and snacks section has really expanded since the remodel.
