Come here for its black sesame soup, mango sago pomelo, tong yuen, and many other offerings. Wave your hands by the sensor for the door to slide open. When it's busy, you need to get a ticket first. You enter its modern setting with white tiled walls and dark wooden tables. We find a long table with short stools. Order your desserts using the QR code on the table. Black Sesame Soup: The thick charcoal- colored soup of ground black sesame seeds is hot, sweet, and sticky. The black sesame has complex flavors that are deeply nutty, earthy, savory, and a touch bitter. There's enough sweetness that allows for the flavors to shine through. The texture is rich, creamy, and smooth. This is the best bowl of the shop. Sweet Walnut Soup: The mild walnut flavor pairs nicely with bolder flavors. The earthy and nutty flavor is creamy and comforting. Sweet Almond Soup: This highlights the aromatic flavor of almond extract, which is very tasty. The floral and fruity flavors are hats to miss.

It is known for having awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand which piqued my interest as I seek quality tongsui aka sweet dessert soups that remind me of my childhood days. The shop is small and crowded with all others who enjoy tongsui and the line moves fast despite the wait. You can order via a QR code at the table or with staff. The menu is simple and they've got most of the must-haves at dessert shops. They have a minimum spend per person if you are dining in, so beware if your group has a person who doesn't do sweet soups. The worst thing (or best thing) that could happen is you eat one for them. The tongsui we ordered were all very basic and while they were delicious, I couldn't tell if they were better or higher quality ingredients compared to other shops across Hong Kong. If I were to be in the area and wanting tongsui, then sure why not. But I am unsure if I would purposely take the train and walk here.

Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

Agnes B Café is a great place to go to for a nice afternoon tea. They make the most amazing cakes -…read moreall their cakes have special names, which I think is really cute. My favorites are Carla, a mango and vanilla mouse and Jeanne, a chiffon sponge cake with fruits in between the layers. They constantly change their selection and sometimes they won't have my favorites, but I've never actually been disappointed by any cake here that I've tried. One thing to note though is that each cake is quite small (especially for its price). The latte here is very good as well - very smooth and served piping hot, and isn't overly milky. Another thing I love is their brioches - my favorite is the brie cheese and turkey one. The turkey is so nice and tender and the cheese goes so well with it! I do dislike the fact that they do not offer cake sets - each piece of cake is around $38 and a drink is around $35, bringing the total to close to $80! For me, this is quite pricey and this is why even though I love Agnes B, it's not a place I go to often, but if it's a special afternoon or if I've got particularly good company, I definitely wouldn't mind. Oh and a special mention goes to their frozen yogurt, which I think is more reasonably priced than the cakes - I really dislike frozen yogurt that tastes like ice cream, so I love the frozen yogurt here because it has a tangy taste that completely sets it apart from ice cream-esque frozen yogurt. The frozen yogurt comes with a free sauce and topping. I usually skip the sauce because that sweetens my yogurt too much though, and they have fresh fruits like blueberries and strawberries as toppings which really complement the frozen yogurt.
