Super silky and smooth, without a chewy skin. The salted egg yolk shrimps are coated evenly and the shells are edible! The mantis prawns are very juicy and fresh. I also loved the clams soup and the pork chops! Must haves: salted egg yolk shrimps, deep fried tofu, and mantis prawns. Prices are also very fair. Probably even cheaper than many other places that aren't as good! I saw a few michelin signs on the walls, but I'm not sure if it's referring to them or the alcohol they're promoting. But I do think their food is good enough to be Michelin!! It is quite a busy place so be sure to book a reservation!

Much like sik siu, since the eaters are of high exertion, the food would most naturally be as trashy as can be~ Healthy eaters might want to hit the return button now as the foods may be despicably fattening. Deep fried is almost the golden rule for every trashy food, even in Hong Kong; the famous shrimp toast is actually minced shrimp smeared on a piece of bread and deep fried to crunchy perfection; and you got it, the piece of bread is soaked with grease. To make it even more damaging, mayonnaise is served on the side for you to dip the toast in. Damaging as it seems, but it is also very gratifying and is often the dish that is cleared the soonest. Hing Gung is often an event of the nights and there aren't a lot of joint cater to this batch of customers at this time of the day. I still remember walking into this shop with the waiter asking us to wait outside the shop at 11 in the evening, while they were trying hard to rearrange the tables to sit the 15 of us down. While there are probably…read moreless than a dozen decent dim sum restaurants in the entire West Coast of North America (including Vancouver), there are literally numerous top-notch players in HK. So one might ask - what's the difference? -- Quality instead of quantity. Refinedness over size. That means that the tiny bite-size siu mai's are of supreme quality - perfect texture and very rich in flavor. -- Creativity. I'm quite sure that most dim sum lovers would have had a version of stuffed peppers somewhere. But how about a dish (or pan) of freshly pan-fried stuffed peppers and eggplants served - you guessed it - in the pan! Absolute yumminess can somehow indeed be found. (See picture) -- More Creativity. How about some fried bean curb rolls with baked lobster broth? (See picture). Bean curb rolls are a very common dim sum dish. But wait! Deep fry these super yummy rolls and serve them with a bowl of baked lobster broth with a flaky crust? Just in case you don't know how you're supposed to eat these (LOL) - Take a piece of the roll and dip it into the lobster broth, let it soak for a few second, then put it in your mouth and at the same time contemplate how far you are away from dim sum heaven. -- A rare gem perfectly made. Definitely nice to get a few items not common in the states, such as duck feet with pomelo, and for the non-Chinese-speakers, the carts are all labeled in both Chinese and English (brilliant!). And the shu mai are tight little bundles, elegantly done with a shrimp curled on top-- again nothing crazy by Hong Kong standards, but still elegant enough to warranty praise. The pain is the price. As a higher-end place, well, it's not cheap. It's not priced too badly, but then, it doesn't compete with the very best either. And one slight weakness-- the char shu in the char shu cheung were overcooked. 3.5 stars, but I'll round up.

Depending on what you order, be prepared to spend the equivalent of about USD30 or more per person. What sets Lei Garden apart from the rest of all the dim sum restaurants is not just the deliciousness of their food, but their refinedness and creativity. Shredded Yam Egg Rolls: That's exactly where their creativity and sophistication come in. The filling tasted like a puree of yam mixed with minced pork and was almost heavenly. These are hands down the best egg rolls that I've ever had! Honey BBQ Spare Ribs: This is one of their specialties and I highly recommend that you order this dish. The meat was so tender that they fell off the bones. The honey BBQ flavor was so delicious that I needed to borrow a phrase from KFC that "it's finger licking good!" (Yes, forget about the chopsticks and eat with your fingers!) Fried Chicken Wings: The skin was perfectly crispy and the inside was moist and juicy. This is another dish that requires you to eat with your fingers and lick them to completely enjoy the experience. Har Gow: Thin, translucent, and slightly chewy skins were graced with a shrimp filling that was bouncy in texture and rich in natural flavor. Bean Curb Rolls in Broth: The fish broth was richly flavored, and not only did it make the bean curb rolls more enjoyable, it was so tasty that we finished every drop of the broth, treating it just like a soup dish. Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf: Tasty and not overly oily (Yes!) fried rice was generously mixed with Chinese sausage, minced pork, salty egg yolk, among many other goodies. It was wrapped in a lotus leaf and steamed to perfection that the aroma of lotus filled the air and stimulated the palate. This is another one of their specialties that I highly recommend. Siu Mai: They were tiny but were packed with a concentrated richness that was enhanced by the flavors of black mushrooms. Small, bite size, refined, and delicate - They were exactly what dim sum should be like! Beef Balls: Quality speaks here. There was not even a hint of soda powder or tenderizer. Again, the serving size was tiny but the flavor was supreme. And that perfectly matches the city where the value of food is generally not measured by its size, but by its quality.

Love the curry sauce as it goes perfectly with plain steamed rice, even the potatoes were done well in absorbing the curry. If you like Morning Glory, they do a very good job with the seasoning and I usually request the Chef to add extra Thai Chilli to kick it up a few notches! Service has always been attentive, but I also noticed the high turn over rate as the familiar faces from the last few years are not to be found, parking can be redeemed, just notify the server at end of your meal!

When we arrived, around 8:20pm, almost all the signature poultry dishes were sold out. So I guess your safest bet is to call in advance and reserve their signature tea smoked chicken. Take note. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, winter melon with chilis, salted minced pork and shrimp, the char siu BBQ, and the stir-fried flat noodles with beef. They asked if we wanted to order a bowl of specialty rice to go with the mains, but rice is rice right? The winter melon was quite spicy but very fragrant 很香 from the shrimp paste flavor. The sweet and sour pork (gu lu yok) was a bit underwhelming to say the least - maybe it's because I'm used to the bright orange flavor of this dish at other restaurants, and the presentation nothing special. The char siu was very very lean - not fatty at all and the meat quite tough to bite in at times. I think they used the leanest pork tenderloin for the char siu... but the fat is the best part! :'( The 乾炒牛河 was done well, the beef was tender, solid classic Cantonese dish.

Before I go into the food, I must praise how well-trained their staff are. This lady named Jacky was very welcoming and kept making sure we were well served. Her sincere and genuine attitude earned some praises among us and she even rewarded us with some free desserts at the end. We also ordered a bottle of red but our wine expert friends tasted something wrong in the wine and the male waiter tasted the wine and confirmed the wine went wrong. He immediately allowed us to order another bottle. This kind of service is quite rare in most local restaurants in HK. We ordered many of their classic dishes including the Kin's smoked chicken, fried thousand-year-old egg with pickled ginger, stir-fried lion-head fish fillet with lettuce shoot, seasonal lamb pot, pomelo peel with vegetables and mushroom, fried glutinous rice with Chinese sausages, etc. The best dish was definitely their signature smoked chicken. The lion-head fish is generally rare to find and hard to cook, yet they made the dish simple but spectacular. In terms of the decor, the restaurant has many interesting things if you look around. There are some small fish tanks in bird cages hanging in the restaurant. There are also many photo portraits which were taken by the owner, Mr. Lau Kin Wai. In case you don't know, Mr. Lau was a former art-critic and food-writer. It's not a surprise that the interior design of his restaurant is filled with art. I highly recommend Kin's Kitchen for some Cantonese fine-dining. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes.

One of the servers came out and warned everyone that they close at 8:30 pm, and by then only the curry fish, pork cutlet, brisket, chicken and beef were left as everything else was sold out. Even after hearing that, nobody left the line. We finally got seated right around 8:30 pm and ordered the fish, beef and pork chop. Everything arrived within about 10 minutes. For Hong Kong standards, the portions were absolutely massive. Each dish cost HKD 110 and even came with a huge piece of potato in the gravy/sauce. Note that everything but beef was deep fried. The meat were tender and juicy. The curry itself was really tasty and fragrant. It wasn't exactly Japanese curry or Indian or Thai curry; kind of its own thing but it had a nice hint of spice that worked really well. Because the portions were so huge, we actually packed a big takeaway box before we even started chowing down. We each got a cream soda too, which honestly feels mandatory when you're in Hong Kong. Overall, it was a good experience. Just note: they only take cash, and they also charge for takeaway containers. Bring an umbrella too as there is no cover while waiting outside. Bottom half is the way to go. But it's way greasier than expected, and the skin wasn't as crispy as I imagined it would be. We also ordered half/half mix of the char siu and crispy pork so that we got to experience both of those without ordering too much of one thing. Crispy pork could've been fattier, but it was still good with decent crisp in the skin. Their HK milk tea is the first one I tried while visiting overseas and it had a heavier tea taste compared to some of the other ones I tried at other places later on (which can be totally subjective and better if you prefer a heavier tea taste). Service wasn't that great in my opinion, but I believe it's the standard semi-rude/impatient Asian service that you'd expect at most places in Hong Kong. Food and drinks came quickly. Limited seating and packed completely when we went, but had a short wait time (quick turnover). You are seated close to other customers, but it didn't feel overbearing. They take Visa. The skin wasn't crispy at all, and it was unbelievably greasy--oil was literally dripping everywhere. There was barely any meat, and after a couple of bites, all I had left were bones. The taste was okay, but definitely not worth the hype. The biggest issue is the price. You're paying premium prices for average food and tiny portions. It feels like they're counting on tourists who probably won't be back anyway. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely renovated, but that's pretty much the only positive. The service was by far the biggest disappointment. After I asked for a glass of water because the food was so greasy, the two employees at the ordering counter started making comments about us instead of simply helping. Our table was right next to the counter, so we could hear everything they were saying. It honestly felt intentional, as if they wanted us to hear them. I've never experienced something so rude over such a simple request. What makes it even worse is that they charge a service fee. I'm perfectly fine paying for good service, but if you can't even bring a customer a glass of water, what exactly is that service charge for? Taking orders and bringing food to the table is just the bare minimum. To top it off, after finally getting a table, we were told to go wait by the entrance again. The whole experience was disorganized and frustrating. Overall, this place is incredibly overrated. Hong Kong has countless small neighborhood restaurants serving better roast goose, at better prices, with friendlier service. I'd rather spend my money there than come back here. Would not return, and definitely wouldn't recommend.
