I've never been a big fan of buffets...but I am a big fan of free buffets. And, not only was it free, but it was down-right satisfying on so many levels! At first glance, all I am saw was the salad, cold seafood, and sushi station, I just figured that this was all that existed in this part of the country. But then I started seeing people carrying plates full of random food. Low and behold, the buffet stretched all the way to the back of the seating area and had something for everyone's taste. So just to name what I can remember, they had: -sushi -sashimi -lobster, oysters, mussels, crab legs -Salad bar -crackers and cheese -various breads, banquettes -egg flour soup -noodle bar -dumplings -Indian curries with naan and rice -chow mien -various chicken, pork, veggie stir fries -various meats that were freshly carved -bbq pork steamed buns -dessert bar-chocolate fountain with marshmallows, individual Haagen Daz ice creams, lava cake, pana cota, fresh fruit, tiramisu, brownies, apple crumble bake, crepes I tried to eat just a little of everything and if have to say that it was all tasty, fresh and full of flavor. The food was warm and there was so much I was a bit overwhelmed. Definitely a large selection for all to enjoy....with the exception of children. Usually, buffets have pizza and chicken nuggets and fries for kids. Didn't see anything like that here but not sure if that is just something that they do in the states. Friendly staff, they were constantly clearing our plates and refilling our water glasses. If my layover home is long enough, I may try to pop back in and have another go at this joint!

I ordered a regular café latte. And it sucks. The liquid under the bottom of the bottle is syrup, they worked hard to prove that the syrup here is free. I can even see the powder of coffee bean floating around. I personally recommend the people who want to take a coffee to fresh up a great morning give up. It's not a good choice.

As an airport hotel breakfast buffet, it was not bad at all.  The place was clean, with an extensive list of items on their spread.  I wish hot food would remain hot, though.  Everything that I tried seemed to be just lukewarm at best.  Even the whole container of "sanjin bao" that the chef/cook just delivered from the kitchen was cold, that was a big disappointment.  Other than the temperature issue.  The breakfast buffet was pretty decent.  I could see that every patron seemed to be in a hurry, no one seemed to worry too much about the quality of the food.  Well, that's just the impression that I got. I was glad that it was included with our hotel stay.  At least it was very convenient.

Therefore, it is not entirely fair to compare the breakfast buffet at Café Aficionado with other 5-star hotels in HK or China. There was a mixture of breakfast items from the East and West.  That cleverly included items such as the popular Hong Kong's "Doll" noodles with Spam and fried egg, and street foods like plain rice rolls with different sauces and condiments that you were free to add. The café was nicely lit and clean, and the staff was efficient in clearing used items. Overall, I have a satisfying experience at Café Aficionado.

But, of course, you don't think much of food when you're a kid. My friend and I came here on a rush for breakfast about 1.5 hours before my flight, but we wanted something nice as our last meal together. Although there was a queue, it went by surprisingly quick. Our food also came at a very quickly. We had the bbq pork steamed rice noodles, egg tarts, fried turnip cakes, and the sticky rice in lotus leaf with abalone. Subpar quality overall; the bbq pork steamed rice was a bit too watery and the fried turnip cakes had very mushy-like texture. The lotus leaf wrap was average--I think the only good thing going for it was the abalone, but was totally not worth it. They also forgot out pork buns, which was alright, since I was on a time crunch. To say that I've had some bad dim sum is an understatement. Maxim's Jade Garden wasn't terrible, but not as great as many people make this place out to be. Sure, you can see famous people. And you can people watch, too, but that's weird. It's overpriced dim-sum and if you have a flight that's not in the morning and you're craving dim sim, I would just suggest getting your dim sum fix while you're still in Hong Kong.
