Always a great choice for quick meals. I love their one brother baked pork chop over rice. Chinese BBQ is not so good.

Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

We got here fairly early, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was as expected - quick, efficient, and no nonsense. A tell-tale sign of a good HK cafe. The food just hit the spot for me, bringing me right back to my childhood memories of eating this on weekend mornings at our local HK cafe. Note that they don't accept foreign credit cards, so be prepared with cash, Octopus, or Alipay.

The menu is very straightforward just pick what you like to have in the pot as toppings and it's charged per topping. The chicken pot is very tasty and flavourful. My friends and I got there around 7pm and we could already see people lining up or sitting on stools waiting for tables. (Reservations strongly recommended but that only applies to big group of people) After we sat down, we ordered one whole chicken and chose a little bit spicy for the stew (sorry but I really cannot take too much heat). The best part of chicken pot is that they use every single part of the chicken (though most westerners do not prefer chicken with bones...) As expected, the chicken was very tasty with the sauce. It was very smooth and perfectly cooked. However I had to point out that it was still too hot for me. So all those who cannot have spicy food - beware! After that, soup was added to dilute the sause and we ordered the cripsy fish skin, lots of lots of veggies (to make myself feel better); and if you have an adventruous heart - go for the chicken balls. Yup, literally the chicken balls with a chewy and rubbery texture.. (urgh...) Anyway, we enojoyed ourselves very much and that only cost us around HKD$200 per person. However, can I say that the air-conditioning here is clearly not strong enough... we felt like we went to a gym... but all in all, the food was good and we will come again!

Both were soooo good, hot or cold. I don't think the macaroni/ham soup or the egg ham toast were anything special, and would not bother ordering these again. The place is super popular, but the line moves quick. You may be seated with strangers at the same table (seems to be common practice in busy HK restaurants). Service was questionable, but I also saw a video online that they are purposely (& famously?) rude to the customers. What made me laugh was that we had barely sat down (my butt touched the seat for 0.1 second) and the waiter already wanted our order. When we said we needed extra time to go over the menu first, we got a bit of a death stare from the waiter. Their concept seems to be "come in, eat right away, and get the hell out!" I had been forewarned by my friend about the service here though, so I wasn't surprised. I'd still come again just for the pudding.

One thing to keep in mind, you might need to share table with other customers. I ordered the classic meal, macaroni with soup and ham, with scramble eggs, and buttered bread on the side. This meal also comes with a drink, and I ordered Hong Kong milk tea. The milk tea was smooth and authentic. If you want to experience 'Hong Kong' culture, this is the place for you.

No booze here - walk one block if you haven't had enough of that. They do make a fantastic HK milk tea, though. A thick Malaysian Curry is full of chunky beef, and I love the soft tendon. A casserole of fried pork chop with tomato sauce and cheese is like chicken parm for Asians. And the Asians did it better. The Hainan Chicken is great, though they don't make the garlic rice. Now for the best food in Hong Kong: Bread with condensed milk and butter. It tastes like it sounds, and it sounds pretty whatever, but it's indescribably delicious. Less $50 USD to feed three hungry people, and the food comes out instantly. There's less than ten minutes between ordering and arrival, and each dish is awesome. If I'd known the HK diner food was this good, I could have skipped all the Michelins.
