When we asked them to refill the tea pot with hot water, they sternly replied, "Oh, we don't do refills." First, RUDE. Second, if you're charging $44 for a SMALL pot of tea, we'd better be getting a refill. Yes you may be wondering why we're having tea at a sports bar, but if they can't even provide proper and FAIR customer service at a non-alcoholic level, they shouldn't even in business. How about a glass of hot water instead? My friend went to inquire about hot water. Oh sorry, they don't offer hot water either. At first, I thought they were kidding. So I went around back to the bathroom, and afterwards, asked a waitress who was manning a electric water kettle if I could have a glass of water. You know what she said? "I'm sorry, we don't have hot water." And I pointed out the electric water kettle right in front of me, "But you're boiling hot water right now!" "That's for tea. If you want hot water, you can order hot lemon tea, which costs $39--" HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU OFFER HOT TEA BUT NOT HOT WATER?! ARE YOU THAT STINGY?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AT ALL. About an hour later, I asked for some tap water to accompany my beer. They brought an glass of ice water with lemon. How nice, I thought. A slice of lemon too? How considerate of them. But too much ice and not enough water left me asking for a refill. "Can I have some more water please?" I asked politely. "Oh sorry, our boss does not allow us to give out water. You have to buy bottled water." WHAT THE HECK?! Absolutely the worst restaurant/bar experience I have ever had in HK, let alone, in the whole entire world. Poor service. Oh and the fries? They were nice and crisp at the start, but livable without. I would gladly pay for fries elsewhere but The Doghouse. Am I returning? Never in a million years.

The TVs always have a rugby or Australian Rules Football match and the menu has some favorites from down under. The patrons and staff are friendly and the seating layout is good. But that's where it ends. The food is very unsatisfactory in taste, texture and temperature. And speaking of temperature, this is the first bar I ever went to in Hong Kong with no air conditioning. Hard to look pretty when you're sweating like Niagara Falls! There are far too many bars in Wan Chai to settle for bad food and uncomfortable temperature.

Last month we went to the Hong Kong Museum of Art to tour leisurely, when we felt like sitting down…read moreand getting something light to eat in the afternoon, we wandered into Hue, which is a restaurant inside the museum on the second floor.   It was 2:25 pm, the waiter politely told us that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes, so we had to place our order instantly.  We glanced at the menu and there was just one set brunch for HK$550 per person, and there seemed to be too much food for that time.  As we were trying to decide, a white female staff from the bar area came over and let us know that time was up.  She told us that the bar area is still opened, so, we moved over there, where it was at the farther end of the restaurant.  It is quite unusual to have a white woman as a server in Hong Kong, as you have to speak in English to communicate, instead of Cantonese.  In Yelp, Hue is labeled as Australian, so I assumed this was an Australian lady, and she seemed to be the captain or boss there as well.  She was polite but rather matter-of-fact like, which was fine.   The place was kind of neat with modern décor.  Our table had a nice view of the harbor and the pedestrians passing by.  However, what was most important - the food on the plate, was what cost this a 2-star review.  They didn't give us much food, but they charged premium prices!  I had an order of Profiteroles for HK$160 (US$20), while the presentation was good, there were only 3 small-strawberry-sized profiteroles.  The mocktail "Tropical Nights" for HK$90 (US$11.61) was watered down and rather tasteless.  Hubby had the Blue Fin Tuna, which came chopped on top of 2 tiny pieces of thin toasts (kind of burnt) for HK$210 (US$27).  His orange juice was HK$55 (US$7.00).  Daughter's Orecchiette had a reasonable portion, but the pasta was hard and spicy, HK$230 (US$29.68).  They asked her still or sparkling water, she answered still, and they gave her a bottle that cost HK$80 (US$10.32).  With the 10% service charge, the final tab came to HK$907.50 (US$117), which was too steep even in US standard for a meal that was lacking in food!  We wanted something light, but not that light!  If the quality and quantity were better, the price would have been OK.  This is a shame, as Hue is the only restaurant that we felt value was bad out of all the restaurants that we had been to in our recent Hong Kong and Shenzhen tours.  I read a review and learnt that there is a café on the ground floor of the HKMOA, we would try that one if we go to the museum again in the future.

This is a running theme for HK's food scene in general, but a place like Outback should try to be consistent with their food in general. I was honestly okay with not getting another entree as I was getting stuffed from the appetizers and still wanted to try their dessert. They insisted on making a new dish that's off the menu, so I said okay. This dish was pretty interestingly since the pasta was pinkish red - since they didn't tell me what it was, I'm not sure where the red comes from, I'm just hoping that it's vegetarian since I told them I'm vegetarian when I was ordering! This pasta was just okay, not really my style nor taste for my palate but it wasn't terrible so I got it to go and eat it as leftover the next day. We got mille feuille for dessert. My friend and I were really confused as to why this dessert took as long to come out as it did. I think it seriously took them 35 - 40 minutes to ring out this dessert. I have come for a Tuesday lunch, which very reasonably priced at less than 100HKD, included a soup, salad, your selection of main and soft drink. The soup was, to be fair, a tasty sweetcorn, but other than that the meal was a disappointment. The salad was limp, the milk tea was so weak it couldn't punch it's way out of a wet paper bag, and the main course of baby back ribs was school dinner at best, and came with a meagre side of cold fries. The BBQ sauce (which was an additional request) was tasty with a spicy, tangy zing, and the only thing actually hot on my plate. The remainder of the menu is steak, burgers, grilled chicken, salads, a sort of Aussie themed TGI's. Main course will set you back 120-200HKD. The a-la-carte options are a little more substantial in size and a lot hotter in temperature, so perhaps save your Aussie treats for an evening meal. Otherwise, the staff are adequately professional, but not hugely personable. The interior is a little tired, and could probably do with a really good clean. Overall, it's fine. Not brilliant, but perfectly fine for a belly full.

The service was good, but that's about all that was good. The bread was overcooked to the point of being crunchy. The Blooming Onion was unevenly cooked, but mostly overcooked. The medium rare Prime Rib was cold, fatty and on the raw side of rare. The baked potato was small and seemed like it had been cooked in a microwave oven. This type of thing would not have flown at an Outback back home. This was not even close to being the Outback that we are used to. I guess it turns out that the sign was a mirage after all.
