If there's one thing Aussies do well (OK, excluding rugby and cricket), it's the cooking of meat. And in the case of Chicken on the Run, it is the chooks.
The concept is very simple; chicken roasted in a marinade of salt & pepper or chilli, served whole, half or quarter, for take out. There are also a number of different dishes, including salads, side dishes (I thoroughly recommend the cauliflower cheese), and other mains like lasagne. However, the main reason to come is the chicken which is fresh out of the oven and cooked to perfection. With the kitchen on site, the freshness and quality is guaranteed!
The shop (I call it a shop rather than a cafe or restaurant) has some bench seating in the window, so it is possible to "dine in". It is also nice and bright and airy, so dining is is a bit like having a picnic, but just indoors.
Slightly incongruous, but still very welcome, is the small sweet stand they have by the till, where they stock a variety of sweeties imported from the UK and Oz. It's a nice touch as sometimes a Dairy Milk just has to be British. I suppose you could have a Milky Way for your dessert.
The staff are super friendly, especially the manager who always has a smile and a warm greeting on hand. read more
