New Zealand Lamb, pork from England, free range chicken from Hungary. They even make their own bacon and pate here. Seth, the guy behind the counter gave me a free slice and it was rich and melt in your mouth tender. We ended up buying a couple of chicken breasts which looked like well, chicken. I haven't seen a chicken here that wasn't a little gray and shady looking. I'm really looking forward to coming back to pick up some bacon and sausage or any of the other charcuterie they do in house. The wine selection is good and whoever put together the list selected some good options All that said, there was nobody to greet us at the door and empty tables had reserved placards. We looked lost and awkward and eventually asked to see a menu and for an explanation. That person then vanished. A possibly Persian man returned and asked if we wanted a table but then told us there was nowhere in the restaurant. There is no list -- or so we were told. Then the original person returned and without explanation we had a table. Why? Had he racially profiled us? Was he just rude? I have no idea, but he consistently gave the most cursory and minimal responses throughout the night. The Persian(?) took our menu order but when asked about the butcher just motioned across the restaurant and said "go ahead." He didn't provide a table number so -- yet again -- another waiter had to be asked. Service was slow and encounters with waitstaff were sporadic, at best. The guy next to us received a 10% discount without even asking because his service was so delayed. All staff speak perfect English. A few other nice touches include their gift card options (I suppose for the man who already has everything), their "meatmaster" loyalty programme, and also their delivery options via Cuisine Courier. I tried to think of similar places around this district, or the ones close by, and couldn't come up with any but the one on the corner close to Times Square. Ada is in fact one of those last street food stalls that remains in this area despite it being turned into big chains propriety for the most part. That's why it's unique. The food, as a proper street food 'restaurant' is nothing special but you know what you get. Actually, you see everything on display and even being cooked in front of your eyes. Appearance wise, I find it charming. Okay, it's a little run down, looks dirty and old but charming nevertheless. During my visit in Hong Kong I found this as I was going to Tai Cheong Bakery. The Farmers Market conveniently runs through a long street from Des Veoux Road and Graham Street and is located in the center of the walkway that connects the ferry pier and the footbridge that leads to Central. The market is small compared to other markets I have seen however the amount of veggies and fruit still makes this a place to not pass up! The vendors they are pretty nice and friendly. The variety of meat that they serve is absolutely amazing. I came on a Tuesday around noon and they still had a great selection of fruits vegetables and other things as well. They also have a market called Man Kee Shing Pork Chops that you can also buy live fresh fish and many different varieties of the meat as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. On Sundays they are organized by KFBG from 11AM-5PM and Wednesdays they are organized by SEEDS from 12PM-6PM. I came on a Tuesday where they were opened from 11AM-5PM. I knew the Farmers Market was going on when I walked past the Pier on my way to Lamma, and I knew I wasn't coming back on time to buy my veggies that day. I also knew I was coming back just to do exactly that the following Sunday morning. The market is a small one, where farmers offer their produce at large tables, placed in a square shaped area. The produce is seasonal so you'll find different veggies from time to time. Some of what they sell: leafy greens, okra, cucumber, beets, bitter gourd...Most of the farmers will expect you to ask them questions and it's a great place to learn about what you eat: there are no intermediaries so prices are fair, and affordable. The Wednesday one, which is a bit smaller than Sunday's, is organized by SEED, a foundation that promotes 'sustainable lifestyle' and has helped local farmers with the marketing of their produce. They even advertise and promote its farmers on their website so that you can get to know them beforehand. They would expect you to bring your own bag and it is also advisable to get there early, for fresher, greater variety. Do you have plans this weekend?
