Since it was only 11:00ish in the morning we decided to have some noodles & congees. Ordered the Chiu Chow Style Beef Brisket Noodles and this is for sure a 4 star item!! For HK$38.00 ( US$4.84 ) you get a pretty good size bowl of soup noodles filled with tender beef brisket, since the meat is still very moist as it was not over cooked it has a great texture and with a tiny bit of fat still on the meat, it makes it taste even better!! Sinful but good! The Mixed Meat Balls Noodles was ok, nothing special, will skip next time! The Baby Oyster Congee ( a staple in Chiu Chow cuisine ) was done very well, the oysters were super fresh and the umami of all the seafood blended perfectly together! This is my comfort food while in Hong Kong! All in all, this is a great place for authentic Chiu Chow Noodle and other goodies, next time will try their famous Marinated Goose and other dishes!! Very friendly service too!

It is just next to Shum Shui Po MTR station - so conveniently located! And the prices are cheap compared to the others. I love the Marinated Delights Combination the most:) Only HKD$128 and you can try over 7 braised food, like the eggs, cuttlefish and pig's ears! It would be great if you match them with the oyster congee! They indeed put a lot of oyster into the congee and that's why it was fresh! We ordered a pot of oyster congee and it only costed us HKD$98 for 3-4 people. If you haven't tried any Chiuchow food, this is a good choice with reasonable prices!

My relatives selected Heng Fa Chuen one for dinner. I didn't expect any fancy interior or great service in this restaurant. I guess they're really going downwards coz all the dishes size were so small and disappointing. Stir fried eel with garlic - Eel tasted a bit fishy and bony Steamed ground pork with egg - It was mediocre and salty, the egg definitely overcooked. Sweet and sour pork - It's so sweet and pork quite fatty. Stir fried beef with choy sum - it was ok. Tofu with chinese mushroom - It tasted like food court quality dish. Salt Baked Chicken - It's absolutely not ancient style salt baked chicken. The chicken was cold and dry. I definitely won't recommend Tsui King Lau if you're looking for authentic Hakka cuisine.

This place is dirty, doesn't accept credit cards, and has a no nonsense kind of attitude. Portions are perfect for on-the-go breakfast. I ordered the sautéed beef omelet with toast and an iced coffee, my girlfriend ordered the breakfast "A" noodle bowel with fish cake. Unfortunately the broth in her bowl was a bit bland because she opted to omit the cow juices, but my omelet was A-ok. the omelet didn't look appetizing but as soon as I bit into it I forgave it's vanity. The iced coffee was quit good, they even had a milk tea with coffee ground blend. If you're ordering the noodle bowl you can customize it to your liking. This method is the preferable way to order amongst the locals.

I made my way into Quarry Bay one cool morning. It did take me a good hour to get there, but nevertheless, I stumbled upon some unique stops enroute to Mian. It's nestled on a smaller street, and it's hard to miss, situated next to a coffee shop. The decor is hip and modern, and clean. Although their menu had other noodle items, I knew I had to get the braised brisket with the 'chinese pappardelle' lo mein. It was exactly how I envisioned it to be. The 2cm thick pappardelle made with duck egg had the perfect texture. The al dente texture complimented the sauce well; it was coated with the slighty sweet soy sauce of the beef. I savoured every bite, and wanted more of the noodles. This place is worth the trek, the quality of the noodles and the meat are stand outs, and one can always explore Quarry Bay afterwards.

Indeed, why would they not? Whether it is the street food found in street markets or proper meals such as beef noodles or taiwanese bento, Taiwan has it all. Having said that I have a secret rule of thumb when it comes to food, that is, I will never eat Taiwanese food in Hong Kong and the same applies to the Hong Kong food in Taiwan. It might be a preconception on mine that the authenticity would very much be lost when the cuisine is introduced to a foreign piece of land; adding to that would be the fact that I have been let down for too many times and have gradually lose faith in it. It wasn't until I have come to this shop coincidentally that I gradually restore hope in Taiwanese cuisines in Hong Kong. I think the best way to tell whether a restaurant is good or not is to try out the basics; beef noodle soup is a staple of Taiwan and it would very well be a good indicator in how well a restaurant prepare their foods. The broth is quintessential in a bowl of noodles and 程班長 does it like no others. Traditional taiwanese beef noodle broth is rich and seasoned with soy sauce, behind the mellow fullness a punch of heat will catch you by surprise, and this is exactly how the broth is like in 程班長; going against the slightly broad and substantial noddles, the two matches perfectly. Whereas for the priced jewel, the meats, which could either be brisket, tendon or tripe or all 3 of them, are all very well braised and are melt in your mouth tender. Last but not least, the pickles that add to the noodle soup play an important role in spicing up the flavors as well as freshen up the mouthful. Thank to this restaurant, may be it is not a bad idea to give a little try on taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong; a leap of faith is indeed called for nonetheless.

Deep fried wonton - nothing fancy, very crispy and tasty served with sweet & sour sauce. 2. Crispy Curry Pork Chop bun - chopped curry pork loin served in a toasted French roll. Not the spicy kind of curry, still full of favors and quite filling. 3.
