I like how you can access it by either going off Ladder Street, by taking the road past the hidden Cafe Deadend, or from the "backyard" of the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences. There's a decent-sized playground with a good variety of equipment. Since it's on a hill you'll have to walk down a lot of stairs so it might not be the most wheelchair/stroller accessible, but at each level there are benches to take a rest. I love how there's even an overhead bridge and a small fountain at the bottom. If nearby Blake Garden is too busy for your tastes, just head up the hill here... I'm pretty sure it'll be a lot quieter!

The use of the word 'park' for this place is somewhat misleading, as you won't find open fields of grass here. Nevertheless, there are recreational and fitness facilities located within the space. The main attraction is a "Wind Tower" shaped like a fishing junk--a little homage to the history of Ap Lei Chau, which started as a fishing village. There's a viewing platform at the top of the tower, which allows for great views of the Aberdeen typhoon shelter. At night, the tower lights up, although I've never really understood why this was necessary. The park is open 24/7, so make use of the jogging trail, or just sit out and enjoy views of the harbour.

This place is NICE and so much hidden paths to walk on I didn't see how far one of them went. I hope it stays lightly walked because I can't describe the full beauty in pictures. I can definitely see wedding photos taken here, and given how little damage this place has after 1 week of a Typhoon, it's a real gem to come here. To get there from the peak, you get off on the rightmost path from the Peak Tram then walk until you find a zig zag walkway up on the left. Go up and you'll hit some giant houses and a road. Follow the road up until you hit the spot. Really cool, and I love the calming atmosphere.

Creeping on couples taking romantic wedding photos because you want to explore the beautiful garden, but can't do it without getting in the way. Sorry to those 5 or 6 couples, but you might have some sweaty people sneaking around with a selfie stick in the background of your pictures. Victoria Peak Gardens is NOT the Peak. I'm seeing a lot of reviews/pictures of the Peak on this page. NO! The Peak is a cool observation point of the city crammed with tourists and surrounded by super overpriced food. Victoria Peak Garden is about a 10 minute walk up the mountain, where tourists usually forget to venture. You pass by excessive rich-people condos and lush green pastures, where people are lying on picnic blankets and taking pretty photos. Near the top of the mountain is a lovely garden (which is supposedly filled with flowers, but it was just green and brown when I went) with a fancy gazebo smack dab in the middle. No wonder dozens of people were taking wedding photos here when I went. It was absolutely gorgeous! It made me think of some sort of Asian drama fairytale ending scene, where the main characters finally confess their love and kiss each other after 30 episodes. I can practically hear the ballad playing in the background. So yeah. Come here to get away from the smog and the gaggle of tourists from the Peak to breathe in some nature. Or to sneak up on some unsuspecting couples who really don't want you there. Or to dance around/make out with your SO like you're a star in a soap opera. Don't worry, I won't judge (though the other people there might). (88/100) - 2016

This is the case for Wan Chai Park, less known and frequented than other bigger ones like Victoria Park, for example. It's a minute away from Wan Chai wet market yet it took me a while to discover it. But now that I know about it, it's become my fav green spot. It's got a little bit of everything: a pond, a big soccer pitch, an elderly training area (how cool is that?!), children's playground it's well sheltered and there is quite a lot of seating space (both benches and fences). On weekdays it's mainly old people and young guys who you can find there, especially the latter, playing soccer. On weekends it's full of kids. It's easy to find a good shadow that makes staying at the park pleasant...on a warm Sunday afternoon I went there to read trying to avoid other busy parks...and I found a quiet spot, actually close to the playground area. And the huge trees made for a great roof! Sometimes I go there without a book, just to chill out, and sit around the pond...so relaxing! Of course, if you were only visiting Hong Kong for one or two days, I wouldn't prioritize Sai Kung. But if you have three or more days, I highly recommend a day visit here. Sai Kung East Country Park is great for hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, and lying on secluded beaches. Starting from HK Central or Kowloon, the best transportation is the mini bus, which will take you to Sai Kung town. From there, you can catch another bus that brings you to Sai Wan Pavilion or hire a taxi. Given how the park is nearly 45 sq km (about 17 sq mi), start your day early and bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and some food for fuel. From Sai Kung town, the taxi driver drove us to the HK Geopark by the East Dam of the High Island Reservoir. Here, 140 million year old volcanic remains form phenomenal polygonal columns, which can be appreciated throughout a 2.2 km (1.3 mi) round trip trail hike. Parallel to the East Dam is the manmade Dolosse Wall: concrete geometric structures laid out to minimize the erosion from ocean waves. Along the East Dam is section 1 of the 100 km long MacLehose Trail, which connects eight country parks, with Sai Kung East Country Park being one of the larger ones. The hike along MacLehose Trail from the East Dam towards Long Ke Wan is mild to moderate, but the lush green countryside views are beautiful. Plus, once you reach Long Ke Wan beach, you'll appreciate the untouched pristine blue waters and beautiful white sand. There's much more to Hong Kong than city life; the secluded and peaceful countryside with breathtaking views is such a worthwhile getaway, and you never would've thought you were still in Hong Kong.
