I am generally very keen on parks, regardless of their size. It's always great to have a little patch of green in the city, a little away from the bustling city. This is the case for Wan Chai Park, less known and frequented than other bigger ones like Victoria Park, for example. It's a minute away from Wan Chai wet market yet it took me a while to discover it. But now that I know about it, it's become my fav green spot.
It's got a little bit of everything: a pond, a big soccer pitch, an elderly training area (how cool is that?!), children's playground it's well sheltered and there is quite a lot of seating space (both benches and fences). On weekdays it's mainly old people and young guys who you can find there, especially the latter, playing soccer. On weekends it's full of kids. It's easy to find a good shadow that makes staying at the park pleasant...on a warm Sunday afternoon I went there to read trying to avoid other busy parks...and I found a quiet spot, actually close to the playground area. And the huge trees made for a great roof! Sometimes I go there without a book, just to chill out, and sit around the pond...so relaxing!
Its locations is great for me but it's a little hidden: you can access both from Cross Lane or Queen's Road East (and climb down the stairs from there). read more
