Actually, it's just like a garden for the people who live near. One day, we went to Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre to have a picnic and played all day there. In Hong Kong, there are a few places or country parks for picnic. Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre is one of the precious places for Hong Kongers to have a leisure time. At that day, we just took an MTR to Sunny Bay and then changed to Disneyland line. It's so fast to get there. We prepared so much food we handmade and got there early to feel the morning air. There is a beautiful grassland and we put a picnic blanket on and sat down to have our meal. It's just like the scene we have seen in movies. Just interesting! And we got a lot of fun. After finishing our meal, we have played pedal-driven boats. Seven people rent two boats. We were so relaxed to play on the lake. It really made us forget the vexation in our daily. Jamie W and I were pretty much the only ones who walked into the park, which was totally fine by us. I was surprised to find out it was only built in 1991 because it felt well established as an urban oasis. Because it's on a hillside, the landscape is scrupulously terraced connected by leisurely paths festooned with flowers. The central pond was quite a draw for serious photographers with huge lotus plants, turtles sunning themselves on the rocks, and colorful schools of koi converging on the shoreline. The view is nice and the air is clean here. The grounds are very well kept. There is a nice sidewalk along the waterfront that is popular with joggers and romantic couples alike. One weekends the greenspace is typically filled with families out enjoying the weather. For dog owners, the park also houses a pet garden (dog park) located very close to the Macau Ferry Terminal building adjacent to the Central Police Station. Offering a fairly large section of grass surrounded by bushes, the garden has two water spigots and semi-covered seating for owners. Bring your own water bowl to fill up however, as your pooch will get thirsty. This is a favorite destination of our pug.

This park has basketball courts, public exercising equipment, fountains, large spaces where people can gather to do morning exercises, and a big lot where it hosts a lot of shows. However, this park is basically the park where you will find one of those ubiquitous objects that are scattered all across the former British Empire, and that is the statue of Queen Victoria. Once again, I'm not entirely sure how long this statue will remain since I suspect that there will be a time when places will want to move on from their past.

Was in vacation in Hong Kong when one of my children asked if we could see the wild monkeys. I had…read moreno idea what he was talking about. It's not until I looked it up online that within a 20 min taxi ride, we could reach Kam Shan Country Park (also known as Monkey Hill) to see them. Do we did. After exiting our taxi, and walking up a few steps, we immediately saw 3 or4 macaques. The local staff said there were two basic rules - don't carry around plastic bags (they will try to take them) and don't stare at them directly (it's considered aggressive behaviour). With that information in mind, we walked around the entire reservoir. It was longer than we had anticipated. If we had proper footwear, it probably wouldn't have been bad, but there are some fairly steep hills. As far as hiking/walking was concerned, it was pretty nice. Lots of view of foliage, the reservoir, with BBQ area spotted all throughout. We probably saw only a few more macaques during our walk around, as they are more hidden in the trails. Overall, a surprise experience I had not planned. For seeing wild macaques, it was worth it. If I had properly equipped for the walk/hike, I would've enjoyed that part more too.

Another place in Hong Kong you wouldn't associate with the towering skyscrapers and hustle bustle…read moreof city life. The only similarity being the mass of humanoid creatures blocking your way on the streets, with just about as much manners. I'm talking about monkeys here, if you didn't understand, hordes of them lazing around on the hiking trail, judging you with their beady eyes, ready to attack if you stray to near. Why are those ones missing hair? Why do they walk upright? And what small rectangular object are they constantly pointing at me? They are thinking. If you haven't guessed by now, I had a bad experience with some of these monkeys. It happened while I was trying to get a good photo, an extreme close-up. It turns out they don't appreciate being harassed by photographers. Forgetting the monkeys the trail around the reservoir is an easy one with the majority of it flat. Every so often a small path breaks off from the main trail leading to picturesque picnic spots. One such spot I visit every time I do the walk. It's a very strange place, grassy bay with boulders littered everywhere giving it the look as if some ancient civilization attempted to create seating for their very first theatre. The colors are vibrant, the green-blue of the water, the orange of the banks, the trees and the sky create the perfect selfie environment. I sent a couple of such selfies to friends around the world, all of which asked if I was on holiday and if so why was I hiking on a holiday? My response being no I was not on holiday but the question remained, why are you hiking? Good point. For those that live in Hong Kong you'll agree that there are hiking seasons, autumn, winter and spring. The summer is too hot and humid, however, as mentioned before it's more of a long walk than a hike. Still, be weary of mosquito's and bring water. And Monkeys, do not smile to the monkeys - it's equivalent to slapping a man in the face with a leather glove back in medieval England.
