I think a lot of people in Hong Kong don't realize how lucky they are when they live right next to…read morethe water. Many overseas spend their lives without having a glimpse at the ocean yet many of us walk by as if its nothing day in day out. This is particularly he case for the Tsing Yi Promenade. This walkway is suited next to Rambler's Channel and pretty much runs the entire length of the eastern and northern coast of Tsing Yi Island- it links a number of housing estates together and more importantly a lot of nearby residents use it to get to Maritime Square and the Tsing Yi MTr station. A lot of money has been spent to upgrade it from a utilitarian walkway to a path that is clearly intended for exercise and recreation, you have playgrounds for kids, exercise units for the elderly and many runners/ joggers make use of its uninterrupted path. The path gives you a great view of the Tsuen Wan and from a distance, the container terminal and on good days even HK Island. Its not exactly the Cote d'azure when you have police launches, barges and all sorts of ships running up and down the channel but nonetheless makes for an interesting site to have a look-see. Anglers also have a good time fishing off the side of the promenade; not sure what you will catch there but nothing in the world will make me eat what's brought up there. In all, its a nice place to have a stroll if you live nearby, if you have time after dinner or if you are looking just coming for a jog.

I remember coming here as excursion every single year when I was a primary school student. It seems…read morelike either my school really loved this place or they ran out of idea. Anyways, I did not know it was actually located at Sha Tin Racecourse not until a few more years... Now when I think about that... I did not realize when I was play hide-and-seek with my fellow classmates, there could be thousands of people betting and drinking just a few kms away... Penfold Park is a public park in Sha Tin and it is surrounded by the racecourse. It is well-known for being a pet-friend while nicely landscaped place filled with greeneries since it opened in 1979. To get here, take the MTR to Fo Tan station. However, beware that the park is closed on race days. So please check the Jockey Club website before coming here. The park is rather spacious, enabling kids to run around freely and a perfect place for you to walk your dogs. With the lush green areas, people often refer here as "Shatin's green lungs" (not really the best name to be honest). Here you may find tennis court, tables for picnic and barbeque grills. Over the year, it has also hosted quite a few equestrian competitions. At one side of the park, you may also take pictures with painted horse statues and artworks. Personally, I love the arched entrance as it is a rather traditional Chinese arch and you can go to the man-made lake through it. On second thought, I seldom go to this place anymore as I do not own a pet nor do I have children yet. But I do remember when I was a kid, I did love this place a lot chasing after my classmates and it was really fun. I am sure it is more fun than spending your weekends in a learning centre... Probably if I go back there, I might be those who are betting on horses now...

The government closed the zoo to make room for residential growth and to build high rises. Now the highrises that butt up to this park look relatively new, so this would most likely explain how there was land for such a giant public park. He thinks this space was where the zoo once was. Regardles, the park is a great outdoor space for the residents and visitors to this area. It has everything....skatepark, roller skating rink, gateball courts, jogging tracks, soccer pitchs, elderly fitness center, play equipment, fitness stations, tennis courts and an amphitheatre. It also houses the Lingnan Garden, featuring courtyards, winding corridors, structures with traditional Lingnan designs, sculptures and bonsai trees. I read that 20% of the total area of the Lingnan Garden is dedicated to ponds and water features. A great outdoor space and understandably one of the most popular public parks in Hong Kong.

Located inside Lai Chi Kok Park, there are other facilities nearby that would be useful for anyone that visits the park; such as Toilets & changing rooms with showers; they even have lockers in the changing room ( just ask the office situated next to the changing rooms for a locker key) - having a refreshing shower after a session on a summer day is one of the best features of this park. Water fountains near the entrance of the skatepark & also near the changing rooms & vending machines right next to the skatepark keep you hydrated. Many restaurants & convenience stores/supermarkets in near by Mei Foo estate as well. The park has security there for access control, if you need help please don't hesitate to call on them.
