The other thing I will mention quick about Walmart is that the employees up in the front seem to do alot of standing around. The last time I was there I spotted 5 in the self chekout area doing absolutely nothing. Wouldn't it be great if they could open cashier checkout line especially when all of the self check lines are full? They have a nice deli and many products that are made in house. I have recently become especially fond of the Bleu Cheese Salami that is made in house; that stuff is killer! Cashiers here are always friendly. The grocery store is always clean, well stocked and a popular pick for locals and tourists. Definitely oozes the small town and communal vibe. Postings at the entrance of the store are always fun to read and keep up with the latest happenings in town. I hope Ely Northland is around for a while because it is absolutely a staple in Ely's community.

Walmart does not make keys anymore - instead allows a self service machine to make them - that they claim to have no understanding of. This machine malfunctioned and took my money and made me no keys. Staff were empathetic and tried to help (I feel for them they are so understaffed). I was hoping for actual help from the "coach" - or AT A MINIMUM to place an "out of order" sign so no more customers would be robbed. Refused to do so and agreed with me that he "did not care" if other customers were robbed. I said I was not shopping there again - he said in a snarly tone "I am sure we will see you here again". NOPE. Since you have an Aldies in your parkinglot, Loew, other grocery stores and drug stores close by, and with Consumer Reports stating there are at least 6 grocer stores with lower prices than Walmart - perhaps this is not the time to treat customers like excrement.
