While I shopped, I felt like I was shopping at a Aldi's or Trader Joe's. Saying that, I mean I saw brands I typically do not see in my grocer back home. Being from the mid-west, some of these brands here were totally different. However, I will say, those that we bought to cook at my cousins cabin were good quality. One thing that really impressed me was, the Amish unsalted butter in a roll. There's just something about the freshness and homemade flavor, that makes it stand out. Being a small town grocery, everyone knew each other, so the service had that down home feel.

The last time I was there I spotted 5 in the self chekout area doing absolutely nothing. Wouldn't it be great if they could open cashier checkout line especially when all of the self check lines are full? I asked about this at the checkout counter and was met with a hostile male employee who went on a diatribe stating that these employees did not have to wear masks if they did not want to and that "maybe" they had religious reasons for not wearing them. He went on to say that wearing masks was "bunk" and that COVID was something concocted. Understand that there were customers present with obvious vulnerable conditions making them at greater risk than others - this included myself. This is not a political issue but one of respect and consideration not to mention a legal violation of state requirements. The loud and boisterous rant was unprofessional and offensive. My daughter is a front line ER nurse and 10 minutes spent in that environment would give pause and continued thought on that opinion. Moreover, it might keep this establishment in line with state law. We will never be back nor will our neighbors and friends. This is a century-old business, but it provides the essentials you need to live in the area. They…read morenot only sell groceries, but gardening supplies, electrical supplies, plumbing supplies, automotive parts, gasoline, maps, rubber boots, etc. Think of it as an old-time general store (in fact, the current building has that as its sign), and you get the right idea. The only down sides are the cramped aisles and small variety -- they have a lot of products, but not many different brands, as fits their patrons' needs. The staff are friendly and helpful, though, so I strongly encourage a stop. If you are in the area, I recommend buying a Superior Forest map at the co-op. They cost around $10 (I got a waterproof one), but they will show the trails and dirt roads that will help you figure out where things are. On-line maps are not reliable at placing things in this part of Minnesota; for example, this co-op is actually a mile or two south of the bridge over the Baptism river.
