Leo does an amazing job of uplifting people that want to get into shape--and stay in shape! Truly, he creates a community in this little garage gym. Also, his payment plans are reasonable and won't burn a hole in your wallet. Michael pushes me to be the best I can be and I have no doubt that with his support I will be able to exceed my goals. I am a big fan of the open layout here. I don't feel cramped at all and feel completely comfortable/confident with the space they provide. They also have an abundance of equipment/tools for you to not only accomplish your own fitness goals, but to explore new ones as well. There are plenty of amenities and programs they offer for your to explore; however, I have yet to experience them so my review is limited in that regard. Ultimately, this is is a wonderful facility to repeatedly lift heavy things and put them back down, and I recommend you come check it out.

It's a pretty brave choice for a glass door on a public gym. $20 day pass is a little high for what this place offers. To improve operations and eliminate this toxic environment, the company should completely restructure its business model to reduce overhead and human error. I had no background in CrossFit or weightlifting and felt completely new to it all, but they explained the basics clearly, kept things motivating, and often stepped in to correct form so we built the right foundation. That gave me confidence and made the classes something I looked forward to instead of dreaded. Over time, I enjoyed Boot Camp so much that I moved into CrossFit. I'm still a beginner in CrossFit and probably will be for a while but my weight loss has accelerated since making the switch, and I've started feeling stronger, healthier, and more positive overall. So far, I've had classes with seven different coaches plus Brad, the owner, and every one of them has been dedicated, approachable, and engaged. Brad himself is humble and very committed to building the kind of community that makes people want to keep coming back. The best part of this gym is the great community of coaches n people. Joining here has been one of the best decisions for my health and well-being.

Rating: 4.5/5 - this review is based on one class…read more This gym is great for beginners and an older crowd. I didn't realize how much of a gym desert Castro Valley is until today. I'm originally from San Diego and there are plenty of gyms around my area. However, my sister did mentioned she lived in an older more suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, I wanted more of a challenging HIIT class that you can find at Barrys or F45 (both of which are an hour away from here). With that being said, they do have TRX bands and assault bikes as well as a variety of weights. They also offer beverages between $1-$5. They were also nice to let you use the assault bikes before and after class. I was expecting more of an energetic and motivated crowd but it was more of a mellow crew of retirees and a preteen boy. It was definitely not what I expected in a bootcamp/HIIT class. Nevertheless, it was a great class albeit I felt like the only gym rat there. Earlier in the class, there was some confusion (partially because the trainer was also teaching people online) but he was able to modify some of the routine so most of us understood what to do. I never expected wanting to do more after a workout but this is a great class if you want to be challenged but not physically exhausted. I also recommend a voice amplifier and more prompts (i.e lift your arms above your head, etc) for the trainer as there was some confusion (maybe due to the music, his low tone or lack of prompts). Will visit again if I'm in the area as it's relatively close to where my family lives. Parking: Plaza Parking Recommendation: They have a first timer special - 3 classes for $50 that includes personal training but I would check online or in person to make sure that it's accurate. They also offer open gym to those with classpass!

He is always responsive and finds modifications so I can stay engaged the entire work out. I also find it more affordable than I expected. I don't do the group classes though they look great, it's a bit too advanced for me given my limitations. Being in there a few times a week, I watch the entire staff cultivate a warm, welcoming environment where you/they say hi to everyone who walks into the space. It's also very diverse. I'm talking both staff and members, culturally, age-wise, body types, genders--no one ever makes you feel you don't belong there.

But apparently there is a "strict" 5-minute tardy policy. I pointed out that I was late by a mere seconds, and by the time she explained the policy, it was 6:36 am. She would not budge and so I came back for the 8:10 am class and began that class. However, once that class started at 8:10 am, to add insult to injury at 8:15 am and 30 seconds, I saw that someone walked in clearly "late" and beyond the alleged "strict" 5-minute policy and was able to start the class. I, of course, was annoyed. And even last week when I had a class, someone came in about 15 minutes late for a 90-minute class. I remember because I was like "oh this person still can do about 1 hour and 15 minutes of training so it's not that bad to come late". Little did I know that the staffers vary in leniency and temperament and I had to come across someone so miserable today. Clearly she does not want to be there or cares about the folks who come here. I think what happened in my situation was that I dared inconvenience and ask the front desk person to help check me in. I did not realize that you could actually check yourself in at the side kiosk until the next class. But then you have to ask yourself, if the female staffer is just on her phone and sticking to bureaucratic policies without making commonsense exceptions for a mere few seconds late (which by the way she prolonged longer due to explaining the policy so slowly and with attitude). It's unfortunate because if Orange Theory does not recognize that who they hire at the front to represent their business matters -- it does. This woman ruined my experience and I will not be coming back. I initially signed up for these classes in San Leandro, but then they suddenly closed the location without explanation and then transferred us randomly to Castro Valley -- I would have never signed up to begin with if I knew I'd have to go there for not only a longer drive but much less friendly staff. I'm glad that today I also finished my last class that I purchased, because I will not be returning. This location plays the music way too loud, and the coaches are a hit or miss. And clearly this staffer is pretty miserable not only to try to ruin my day (which she didn't by the way, I had a pretty solid class), but also to enforce the policy so unevenly just so she could assert her power. Someone should really look into some customer competency training for this staffer since she is probably losing customers for the business, just like they lost with me today. Oh well.

I contacted the studio in late February to cancel/suspend my membership, yet the charges continued. When I followed up after noticing the continued billing, I sent multiple emails to both the local studio and corporate explaining that I had already attempted cancellation and was disputing the ongoing charges. The most frustrating part has been the lack of accountability and constant back-and-forth between the studio and corporate, with each side redirecting me elsewhere while billing continued month after month. Even if they claim they don't have a record of the original call, they absolutely had written notice for months that there was an active dispute regarding these charges. Despite repeated good-faith efforts on my part to resolve the issue professionally, it still has not been properly addressed. The classes themselves may be great, but customer service and membership cancellation handling have been extremely disappointing.
