Everyone there is so warm and welcoming, and there is no judgement there at all. There are so much laughter and chatter, it's always such a warm and fun atmosphere. I know it's seems almost impossible to wake up at 5am and be at the gym by 6am for exercise, but once you get into the rhythm of starting your day early and sleeping early, it does wonders for your body and energy! The pricing is also very affordable, and bootcamp membership is offered in chunks of 3-months/6-months/a year. I'm only be in California for an undetermined amount of time, and after expressing my concerns, Mitch was very understanding and accommodating, so we were able to find something for me. Time flies really fast during bootcamp, but what I really appreciate is that there's no pressure to do beyond what you're capable of, you can go at your own pace and no one will judge you. Dianne and Mitch both demonstrate each exercise so it's easy to follow along, and they keep track of how many sets of each exercise we do. One of the biggest things they emphasize is correct posture, so you don't accidentally injure yourself during exercise. I've walked out of gym feeling all my muscles aching (in a good way!!) and I definitely am feeling so much healthier and less antsy I recommended my sister to come here as well and today was her first day of PT. It's her first time going to a gym for exercise, so having a PT to personally guide her was a good choice. She said it was a little bit of a challenge but she appreciated how attentive they were to the exercises she could do and the ones she struggled with. Pam does many things to make me look forward to coming to workout like continually surprising me with new exercises, putting on music that she knows I like, working with my schedule when I have to travel, and even getting me a towel when I need it. Had the worst experience with the front desk staffer today. I saw that the 6:30 am class was not…read morefull, and though I had signed up for the 8:10 am class, I got there I got there at 6:35 am for the 6:30 am class to hopefully switch, which I saw online people do all the time. But apparently there is a "strict" 5-minute tardy policy. I pointed out that I was late by a mere seconds, and by the time she explained the policy, it was 6:36 am. She would not budge and so I came back for the 8:10 am class and began that class. However, once that class started at 8:10 am, to add insult to injury at 8:15 am and 30 seconds, I saw that someone walked in clearly "late" and beyond the alleged "strict" 5-minute policy and was able to start the class. I, of course, was annoyed. And even last week when I had a class, someone came in about 15 minutes late for a 90-minute class. I remember because I was like "oh this person still can do about 1 hour and 15 minutes of training so it's not that bad to come late". Little did I know that the staffers vary in leniency and temperament and I had to come across someone so miserable today. Clearly she does not want to be there or cares about the folks who come here. I think what happened in my situation was that I dared inconvenience and ask the front desk person to help check me in. I did not realize that you could actually check yourself in at the side kiosk until the next class. But then you have to ask yourself, if the female staffer is just on her phone and sticking to bureaucratic policies without making commonsense exceptions for a mere few seconds late (which by the way she prolonged longer due to explaining the policy so slowly and with attitude). It's unfortunate because if Orange Theory does not recognize that who they hire at the front to represent their business matters -- it does. This woman ruined my experience and I will not be coming back. I initially signed up for these classes in San Leandro, but then they suddenly closed the location without explanation and then transferred us randomly to Castro Valley -- I would have never signed up to begin with if I knew I'd have to go there for not only a longer drive but much less friendly staff. I'm glad that today I also finished my last class that I purchased, because I will not be returning. This location plays the music way too loud, and the coaches are a hit or miss. And clearly this staffer is pretty miserable not only to try to ruin my day (which she didn't by the way, I had a pretty solid class), but also to enforce the policy so unevenly just so she could assert her power. Someone should really look into some customer competency training for this staffer since she is probably losing customers for the business, just like they lost with me today. Oh well.

I have multiple injuries and body issues that make it hard to work out. I was always injuring myself the moment I tried to do weight training on my own. With Awesta I give him feedback on when something is challenging or exacerbating an issue--I'm learning good form to avoid injuries. He is always responsive and finds modifications so I can stay engaged the entire work out. I also find it more affordable than I expected. I don't do the group classes though they look great, it's a bit too advanced for me given my limitations. Being in there a few times a week, I watch the entire staff cultivate a warm, welcoming environment where you/they say hi to everyone who walks into the space. It's also very diverse. I'm talking both staff and members, culturally, age-wise, body types, genders--no one ever makes you feel you don't belong there.

Rating: 4.5/5 - this review is based on one class…read more This gym is great for beginners and an older crowd. I didn't realize how much of a gym desert Castro Valley is until today. I'm originally from San Diego and there are plenty of gyms around my area. However, my sister did mentioned she lived in an older more suburban neighborhood. Unfortunately, I wanted more of a challenging HIIT class that you can find at Barrys or F45 (both of which are an hour away from here). With that being said, they do have TRX bands and assault bikes as well as a variety of weights. They also offer beverages between $1-$5. They were also nice to let you use the assault bikes before and after class. I was expecting more of an energetic and motivated crowd but it was more of a mellow crew of retirees and a preteen boy. It was definitely not what I expected in a bootcamp/HIIT class. Nevertheless, it was a great class albeit I felt like the only gym rat there. Earlier in the class, there was some confusion (partially because the trainer was also teaching people online) but he was able to modify some of the routine so most of us understood what to do. I never expected wanting to do more after a workout but this is a great class if you want to be challenged but not physically exhausted. I also recommend a voice amplifier and more prompts (i.e lift your arms above your head, etc) for the trainer as there was some confusion (maybe due to the music, his low tone or lack of prompts). Will visit again if I'm in the area as it's relatively close to where my family lives. Parking: Plaza Parking Recommendation: They have a first timer special - 3 classes for $50 that includes personal training but I would check online or in person to make sure that it's accurate. They also offer open gym to those with classpass!
